BEETLE
Hey there! Have you ever heard of Beetle? It’s a really fun dice game that you can play with your friends. You might also know it as Bug or Cootie. It’s super easy to learn and perfect for parties. All you need is a paper, a pencil, and a die. Let me show you how it’s played!
SETUP
First, everyone gets their own piece of paper and a pencil. Then, we’ll place the die in the middle of the playing area. If there are younger players joining in, it might be helpful to draw an example of a beetle and mark which body parts go with each number on the die.
GAMEPLAY
When we start this game, the first thing we need to do is determine who goes first. We do this by rolling a die, and the player with the highest number gets to go first. If there’s a tie, we simply reroll until someone comes out on top. Once we have our first player, the game continues in a clockwise direction around the table.
Now it’s time to get into the action! The first player takes the die and gives it a roll. The number they get will determine which body part they can potentially draw. Here’s the breakdown: if they roll a one, it’s the body; a two, it’s the head; a three, it’s a leg; a four, it’s an eye; a five, it’s an antenna; and if they roll a six, it’s the tail.
But hold on! There’s a certain order that we need to follow when drawing these body parts. First, we have to draw the body, and then the head. Only after the body and head are drawn can we start adding legs and a tail. Eyes and antennas can’t be drawn until the head is done. So basically, nothing can be drawn until a player rolls a one.
If you roll the die and can’t draw the body part you need or already have, pass the die to the next player. If you can draw the body part, draw it, and then pass the die.
To win the game, your beetle needs 1 body, 1 tail, 6 legs, 1 head, 2 antennas, and 2 eyes. So you need to roll at least one 1, one 2, six 3s, two 4s, two 5s, and one 6 to win.
END OF GAME
The first player to finish their beetle completely wins the game. The game can continue to find placements for the other players as well.
