After all the character cards have been played, we move on to the second phase. In this phase, each character’s ability is resolved and the corresponding effects are applied. The effects can be positive or negative, so be prepared for surprises!
Once all the abilities have been resolved, any character cards that have reached the end of the line are removed from the game. This opens up space for new character cards to enter the Beasty Bar in the next round.
The game continues with each player taking their turn until a certain number of rounds have been completed. The player with the highest total points at the end of the game wins!

Time to Party – Object of the Game
Your animals are ready to hit the party scene, but there’s a catch. They have to face some tough competition at the “Heaven’s Gate” – the entrance to the legendary Beasty Bar. Your mission is to hold your own against the rival party animals and get as many of your animals into the bar as possible.
When the line at the Heaven’s Gate has five animals, the first two in line get to party it up inside, while the animal at the end of the line gets left out. The player who successfully gets the most animals into the Beasty Bar is crowned the champion of the party animal kingdom. Let’s do this!
Getting Started – Setup
- First, I shuffle my 12 animal cards and pick 4 of them to hold in my hand. The remaining 8 animals go face-down in front of me as a draw pile.
- Next, I place the Heaven’s Gate card and the Exclusion card in the middle of the table. I leave room for five animal cards between them – this is called the Jostling area.
- Then I put the Beasty Bar card and the THAT’S IT card a little further away from the Jostling area.
- Before starting the game, it’s important to read the overview card.

Just follow the instructions on the card and carry out the actions. It’s a fun and interactive way to add some chaos and excitement to your bar. Keep in mind that the animal actions can have a ripple effect on the other animals and patrons in your bar, so be prepared for surprises!
When you play a card with this symbol, you’ll encounter four different animals: the hippo, the crocodile, the zebra, and the giraffe. On each turn, every player has to take the actions associated with these animals, if they’re able to.
The hippo, crocodile, and zebra actions need to be performed on every turn, regardless of whether you’ve already done them before. However, the giraffe action is only required if it hasn’t been played yet during the current turn. Remember, you’ll start with the animal closest to the gate and end with the animal closest to the Exclusion card.
Example 3: The hippo’s repetitive move doesn’t do anything. The monkey gets jumped over by the red giraffe. But the yellow giraffe doesn’t jump, because it just got played on this turn.
4. Shake things up and kick some animals out
After all the animals have taken their turns, I’ll check how many animals are waiting in line. If there are fewer than 5, I’ll just keep going. And now it’s time for Action 5: “Draw another card”.
But if there are exactly 5 animals waiting, it’s time to cause chaos. Heaven’s Gate opens, and the bouncer starts kicking animals out:
- The two lucky animals closest to Heaven’s Gate get to join the party: I’ll flip them over and put them on the Beasty Bar card. They’ll stay there until the game is over.
The unlucky animal at the back of the line is kicked off the party – just flip it over and leave it on the “THAT’S IT” card. Don’t worry, the party will go on without it!
The animals that are still in the jostling area are pushed towards Heaven’s Gate, but they stay in the same order as before.
I should mention that sometimes animals can go straight from the jostling area to the “THAT’S IT” card because of the actions of other animals. In that case, the remaining animals in the jostling area still get pushed towards Heaven’s Gate.
Example 4: Once all the “recurring” actions have been completed, there will be 5 animals waiting in the Jostling area. The magic of Heaven’s Gate opens up to welcome the hippo and the red giraffe, allowing them entry into the bar. However, the parrot doesn’t make the cut as it’s the last animal in line and ends up landing on the THAT’S IT card.
5. Get another card from the deck
After you’ve taken your turn, you can draw a card from the top of your draw pile and add it to your hand. If you’ve already used up all the cards in your draw pile, you don’t get to draw another card.
End of the Game
The game comes to an end when all players have finished playing all their animal cards. The player with the most guests (their own animals) inside the Beasty Bar emerges victorious!
If a tie occurs between multiple players, the players must tally up the card values of their bar guests. The player with the lowest total value wins, and there can be multiple winners in this scenario.
A Challenging Variation
In this more advanced version of the game, the overview cards are placed facedown. Each card’s point value represents the number of points the owner of a specific animal receives if that animal reaches the Beasty Bar.
In this variant, which differs from the normal rules, each player selects four animals of their choice before the game begins. These chosen animals are kept secret from the other players and placed facedown in the game box.
The remaining eight animals per player are then used in the game following the regular rules. The player who scores the highest number of victory points with their party guests at the Beasty Bar is declared the winner.
