Marshmallow Test Game Rules
Ready to put your self-control to the test? Welcome to the exciting world of the Marshmallow Test Game! I’m here to guide you through the rules and help you become a master of delay.
First things first, let’s talk about the goal of the game. The Marshmallow Test Game is all about resisting temptation and practicing self-control. The challenge is simple: you have to resist eating a marshmallow for as long as you can. Sounds easy, right? Well, it’s not as simple as it seems.
Here’s how the game works. You’ll need a marshmallow and a timer to keep track of time. Place the marshmallow right in front of you and start the timer. Now, the hard part begins. You have to resist the urge to eat the marshmallow for as long as possible. Remember, the longer you wait, the greater the reward!
Now, I know what you’re thinking. How long can I really wait? Willpower is a tricky thing, my friend. Some people can resist for minutes, while others can hold out for hours. It’s all about the power of your mind and the strength of your self-control.
But here’s the catch. If you give in to temptation and eat the marshmallow before the time is up, you won’t get any reward. That’s right, zero! But if you can resist the temptation and wait until the timer goes off, you’ll get a sweet bonus. You can either enjoy the marshmallow in all its gooey glory or even better, trade it in for a bigger prize.
So, how do you win the Marshmallow Test Game? It’s simple. The longer you can resist eating the marshmallow, the bigger the reward. It’s a true test of your self-control and determination. Will you be able to resist the mouthwatering allure of that fluffy treat, or will you give in to temptation?
Remember, my friend, the Marshmallow Test Game is not just about winning or losing. It’s a way to challenge yourself, learn the value of delayed gratification, and strengthen your self-control. So take a deep breath, trust in your willpower, and let the game begin! Good luck!

Are you the type of person who loves getting immediate gratification? Or are you able to wait patiently for a bigger reward down the line?
Take the challenge and put your willpower to the test. Win tricks and gather marshmallows from your opponent’s tricks. The player who reaches 20 points first is declared the winner.
Setting Up the Game

Alright, let’s get started with a fun card game called Marshmallow Madness! Here’s how to play:
- First, the player who most recently had a marshmallow goes first and becomes the dealer for the first round.
- Next, shuffle the deck of cards and deal each player a hand of 12 cards. Make sure to keep your hand a secret from your opponents. Place any remaining cards to the side without looking at them.
- Now, everyone should have their marshmallow tokens nearby. Remember, small marshmallows are worth 1 point each, and large marshmallows are worth 5 points each. Keep that in mind!
Let’s Get Playing!
The dealer starts the round by playing a card face up in the middle of the playing area. This card starts the “trick”. From there, play moves clockwise, with each player adding one of their own cards face up to the trick.
When you play a card, remember these rules:
- Any card can be played as the first card of a trick. This card sets the “lead suit” for the trick.
All the cards you play after the first one must match the color of the first card. If you don’t have any cards of the same color, you can play any card from your hand.
When everyone has played a card, the person who played the highest card of the same color wins the round. In the first round, there is no special suit that wins (see “Starting a New Round” for more details).
The winner of the round collects all the cards from the middle of the table and puts them face down in a pile in front of them. Each new round, place the winning cards in a separate pile to keep track of how many tricks each player has won.
The winner of the last round starts the next round by playing a card from their hand.
Going out
When you play this game, you want to collect the right number of tricks to win. But here’s the twist – once you have enough tricks, you’re out for the rest of the round! Don’t worry, though, because you’ll get marshmallow tokens as a reward.
The number of tricks you need to win depends on how many players there are. Let me break it down for you:
- 2 players: Collect 7 tricks.
- 3 players: Collect 5 tricks.
- 4 players: Collect 4 tricks.
- 5 players: Collect 3 tricks.
So, the more players there are, the fewer tricks you need. It’s a challenge, but it’s also a lot of fun!
Once you have your required number of tricks, you can sit back, relax, and count the marshmallow tokens you received. It’s like a tasty bonus for playing well.
Remember, the goal is to be strategic and collect just enough tricks to win. Good luck!
So, here’s the deal. Once you’re done playing a round of this game, you need to get rid of any cards you have left in your hand by putting them to the side. Make sure they’re facing down, though. But hey, don’t forget to keep track of the tricks you’ve won because those still count.
Now, out of the players who are still in the game, it’s the next player in clockwise order who gets to start the next trick. Simple, right?
Let me give you an example. Imagine there are four players in this game. Player A just won their third trick and that means they’re out for this round. Oh, and guess what? They collected a total of 4 marshmallow tokens. Two of them are from Player B’s tricks, and one each for Player C and Player D. Pretty sweet, huh? Oh, and now it’s Player B’s turn to start the next trick.

End of the Round
When only one player is left who hasn’t gone out, the round is over. They don’t get any marshmallows and become the dealer for the next round.
Special Rule for Five Players
In a game with five players, it’s possible for more than one player to still be in the round after all 12 tricks have been played. In this case, none of the remaining players receive any marshmallows.
If the player who won the last trick hasn’t gone out, they become the dealer for the next round.
However, if the player who won the last trick did go out, they get their marshmallows as usual and the first player, going clockwise, who is still in the round becomes the next dealer.
Start a New Round
So here’s how it goes: when we get to the second round (and any rounds after that), the dealer mixes up all the cards, even the ones we put to the side earlier. Then, they give each of us a new hand with 12 cards.
After that, the dealer takes a look at the cards they have and picks one of the five suits to be the “trump suit”. Now, this suit is extra special because it can beat any other suit for this round – it’s like the champion suit!

So, here’s what happens in the next round:
If you can’t follow suit and you play a trump card, everyone else can also play a trump card, even if they could have followed suit.
After everyone plays a card, we determine the winner of the trick like this:
- If someone played a trump card, the highest trump card wins.
- If no trump cards were played, the highest card in the lead suit wins.
End of the Game
We keep playing rounds until someone collects 20 points or more.
Once that happens, the game ends immediately. We don’t finish the current round, and the winner is the person who reached 20 points. Simple, right?
