The actor randomly selects a card from the hat or bowl and without looking at it, tries to act out the word or phrase written on the card. The actor’s goal is to get their team to correctly guess the word or phrase within a certain amount of time.

The actor can use gestures, facial expressions, and body movements to act out the word or phrase, but they cannot speak or make any sound.

If the actor’s team correctly guesses the word or phrase within the time limit, they earn a point. If not, the other team has a chance to steal the point by correctly guessing the word or phrase.

Once the turn is over, the teams switch roles, and a player from the other team becomes the actor. The game continues in this manner until all the cards have been used or a certain number of rounds have been played.

To play this game, we need at least three players or teams. But we can have as many as seven players or teams. It’s more fun if we play in teams.

First, we write down the names of the players or teams on the score pad. Each player or team has a row of dice next to their name, numbered from 1 to 6. We cross off a dice each time we successfully act out and guess a charade.

We shuffle the charade cards and put them where everyone can reach them. We’re ready to start the game!

So, to decide which charade you’ll act out first, the person playing as the “actor” has to roll the dice. If they roll a 4, for example, they’ll act out a charade from the category “People or Characters” found on the back of the card.

Here’s an important tip: make sure the actor always picks a card from the bottom of the pile. This way, nobody else can see what the charade is. Once the actor has taken a look at the card, another player should flip over the sand timer. The actor then has less than a minute to act out the word or phrase for everyone else to guess.

Now, there are a few rules the actor needs to follow:

1. No talking, singing, or humming allowed
2. Don’t draw letters in the air
3. Absolutely no mouthing words or letters, or giving any verbal hints
4. And most importantly, no cheating!

When you’re playing a game of charades, it’s important to remember that calling out just a part of the charade won’t get you anywhere. To guess correctly, you have to call out the whole charade. For instance, if the charade is “hitting a homerun” and you just shout “homerun,” you haven’t guessed correctly yet.

If one of the other players does manage to guess the charade correctly, the appropriate dice next to the actor’s name (or team’s name) on the score pad is crossed off. That way, everyone knows that the charade has been correctly guessed.

Once a charade has been correctly guessed, the charade card goes back on top of the pile, and the next turn goes to the player who guessed correctly. If you’re playing in teams, the player who guessed correctly might be part of the actor’s team. In that case, the team keeps their turn, and another member of the team becomes the new actor. They roll the dice and take a new card.

When playing charades, if I can’t guess the word or phrase before the sand timer runs out, I don’t get any points, and it’s the next player or team’s turn.

If I roll a number that I’ve already crossed off next to my name on the score pad, I can roll the dice again.

If I’ve rolled the dice twice and still haven’t gotten a number that hasn’t been crossed off, the game continues with the next player or team, and we don’t act out a charade.
