Welcome to Whist 22!
Whist 22 is a unique card game that combines precision bidding and trick-taking. What sets it apart is that it uses the trump suit from a deck of Tarot playing cards. Let’s dive into the fascinating world of Whist 22!
The Cards & The Deal
In Whist 22, we play with a special deck of cards. To start, we need to remove the 22 trump-suited cards from a standard Tarot deck. If you’re new to this type of game, it’s recommended to use a French Tarot deck. It’s just like a regular deck of 52 cards used for most card games.
When we play a card game, we start by shuffling the cards and dealing them evenly to all the players. In a game with four players, each of us gets 5 cards. If there are only three players, we each get 7 cards. The number of cards in our hands will decrease with each round until we only have 1 card each. Then, the number of cards will increase again until the game ends.
The Bid
Once the cards are dealt, we put the remaining cards aside because we won’t use them in this round. The player sitting to the left of the dealer makes the first bid. They have to guess how many tricks they think they can win. Each player takes their turn to make a bid, going clockwise around the table. The dealer, who goes last, cannot make a bid that would make the total number of bids equal to the total number of tricks.
For example, let’s say we’re playing a four-player game, and each player has 5 cards:
Hey there! So, let me explain how the bidding and playing work in this card game called Aggie. It’s pretty interesting, so stick with me!
THE PLAY
Okay, so the first thing you need to know is that Aggie has a special rule for bidding. The dealer, who we’ll call Aggie because that’s their name, can’t bid just 1. Aggie has to make their bid either higher or lower, so that the total bid doesn’t equal 5. Got it? Great!
Now, let’s move on to how the game is played. The player to the left of Aggie gets to lead the first trick by playing any card they want. After that, everyone else at the table gets a turn to play a card of their choice. The player who plays the highest-ranking card wins the trick and gets to lead the next one. This keeps going until all the tricks have been captured. Simple, right?
THE FOOL
Oh, here’s an interesting twist. There’s a card called the Fool, and it can be worth either zero points or a whopping 22 points! When a player decides to play the Fool, they have to declare its value right away. So, you have to be careful when you play this tricky card.
SCORING
Let’s talk about how the game works. So, when we start the game, we all begin with 14 points. Now, after a round, if I meet my bid exactly, I don’t lose any points. My score stays the same. But if I don’t meet my bid, I lose 1 point for each trick I capture over or under my bid. It’s important to keep track of that because it can affect our scores!
Now, let’s talk about winning.
The game goes on until one or more players reach a score of zero. Once that happens, the player with the highest score wins!
