The Mysterious Forest: A Memory Card Game

Welcome to The Mysterious Forest, a thrilling memory card game designed just for kids like you! In this exciting adventure, you and your friends will embark on a quest to defeat the powerful Queen of Draconia. But first, you’ll need to remember what items you’ll need for your journey and fill your bag with the right equipment.

Getting Ready

Before we begin, let’s set up the game! First, we need to separate the cards by their types and shuffle them. Once that’s done, it’s time to start our journey. We’ll start by placing the start card on the table, followed by four forest cards, a wonder card, two more forests, and finally, the end battle card. These cards will form a line, showing us the path we’ll take.

Next, we place our playing piece on the start card. We also need to sort out our tokens and shuffle the wonder and Loki tokens. The shuffled tokens should be placed face-down. The bag board and dice go in the center of all the players, and we’ll also need to place four Loki tokens on any spots on the board. Finally, we determine who goes first, and it’s time to begin our adventure!

GAMEPLAY

So, here’s how the game goes. There are three parts to it – scouting, preparing, and exploring.

Phase One: Scouting

First things first, we gotta do some scouting. Starting with me and going clockwise, we take turns flipping over path cards. When I flip over the first forest card after the start card, we all gotta pay attention and remember the equipment we’ll need for this part of our journey. Then, I put the card back down, face down, and we can’t look at it again.

After that, we keep flipping over the path cards, one by one, and we all gotta remember the equipment needed for each one. When we’ve scouted the final battle card and put it face down, we’re ready for the next phase.

Phase Two: Preparing

Let me walk you through the second phase of the game, which involves collecting equipment. To begin, the first player rolls all four dice. Each face of the dice represents a different piece of equipment. Out of the four options, you get to choose two and place their corresponding tokens on your bag board. While you can discuss with other players for advice, the final decision rests with you, the roller.

Now, here’s an interesting twist. If you roll a Loki on the dice, you must also take a Loki token along with another piece of equipment. And if you happen to roll two or more Lokis, you’ll have to take both of them and put them in your bag.

In case you roll an equipment for which there are no more tokens available, you can reroll that particular dice.

The second phase comes to an end when your backpack is completely filled.

Now that we’ve covered phase two, let’s move on to phase three.

In phase three, it’s time for your journey to begin. Each card will be revealed one by one, and you’ll move your figure to the newly revealed card. The equipment required to complete the card will be listed at the bottom, and you’ll need to take it out of your bag and place it on the card.

If you don’t have the necessary equipment, you can use a Loki token. Take one from the bag and flip it to see which power it gives you. The token will either offer you a choice of different equipment types or allow you to exchange one of your bag’s equipment for the one you need. If all you have in your bag are Lokis, you’ll trade the current token for an equipment.

Used tokens can be placed back in the game box for future use.

Wander

So, here’s the deal. The wander card is flipped, and now you’ve got a choice to make. You can pay the cost at the bottom to get yourself the crystal weapon. If you go for it, you’ll have to cough up either two matching pieces of equipment, an equipment and a Loki, three different pieces of equipment, or any four equipment (as the card instructs).

Now, let me tell you what you get if you go for the crystal weapon. It’s pretty sweet, actually. You get two wander tokens that can be used as any type of equipment for any card. That’s a pretty valuable deal right there.

But, hey, the choice is yours. If you decide to pass on the crystal weapon, no biggie. You’ll just keep on going down the path, as I explained before.

The Battle

Now, when it comes to the battle card, it’s just like all the other path cards. You flip it over, and then you gotta pay the necessary equipment to win the battle.

END OF GAME

In this game, your goal is simple: defeat the Queen of Draconia. Your adventure will come to an end when either you defeat her or when you are unable to continue. If you manage to defeat the Queen, congratulations! You win the game. However, if you fail to defeat her or if you don’t have the necessary equipment to navigate the forest, you will lose.
