THE BLOOD OF AN ENGLISHMAN

A LOOK AT THE BLOOD OF AN ENGLISHMAN

So, it’s time to pick your player. Now, let me ask you this: Are you more of an offense or defense player? You see, in this game, Jack is on a mission to steal treasures from the Giant’s castle. But the Giant won’t make it easy for him, oh no! The Giant will defend his treasures with all he’s got. Jack’s gotta navigate this obstacle course and grab all three treasures to win. If the Giant manages to overpower Jack, well, then the Giant wins. It’s a battle, my friend!

This game is exciting, strategic, and just plain fun. And guess what? It’s made especially for two players. Yes, that’s right, it’s a two-player game. So, you can either choose to be the mighty Giant, guarding your treasures with all your might, or you can be crafty Jack, trying to outsmart the Giant and steal those treasures for yourself. The power is in your hands.

GETTING STARTED

Alrighty, let’s dive into the setup. The first thing you need to do is decide who’s gonna be Jack and who’s gonna be the Giant. Take your time, no need to rush this decision. Once you’ve settled that, it’s time to shuffle the deck and deal out the cards. Oh, and make sure to turn them face up so that both players can see what’s going on. You’ll end up with five stacks of ten cards each. Now, don’t forget to fan out those cards. You want both players to have a clear view of all the available cards. Ready? Let the games begin!

Once the cards are dealt, I, as the Jack player, get to choose a single card and move it wherever I want within the stacks. And just like that, the game is ready to kick off!

Let’s Get Playing

Playing as Jack

Alright, here’s how it goes for me, Jack. I have three moves to make. With each move, I can either go from the front of one castle stack to the front of another castle stack, or I can go to the top of my Beanstalk stack. Oh, and I can also move from the back of a castle stack to the front of the same castle stack, or to the top of my Beanstalk stack. But remember, I can only move cards from the back of the stacks to the front. Got it? Good, let’s get started!

Hey there! Have you ever heard the story of Jack and the Beanstalk? Well, I’m going to tell you about a cool game where you get to be just like Jack! In this game, you have to build your own tower of Beanstalk cards. It’s super fun!

Here’s how it works: You start with a stack of cards called the castle stack. Your goal is to move these cards one by one onto your play area to build your Beanstalk. The important thing is that the cards in your Beanstalk need to be in ascending order. But don’t worry about the sequence! You can put them in any order you want.

Now, here’s where things get really exciting. When your Beanstalk stack has six cards, you can use a move to play a treasure card. These treasure cards can be found on the front or back of the castle stack. And when you complete a Beanstalk stack with a treasure card, it’s like hitting the jackpot!

But wait, there’s more! Once you finish a Beanstalk stack, you can start building another one. And keep going until you collect all three treasures. It’s like a race to the finish line, and if you’re the first one to collect all the treasures, you win!

So, get ready to go on an exciting adventure, just like Jack. Start building those Beanstalks and see if you can become the ultimate treasure hunter!

Playing as the Giant

When it’s the Giant’s turn, he has three options. First, he can discard any Beanstalk card from any position in a castle stack. Second, he can move the first four cards as a group to the front of any other castle stack. Lastly, he can make two moves and, with each move, take the front card of any castle stack and move it to the front of another stack.

For the Giant to use his four-card movement, there must be four cards in the stack. Unlike Jack, the Giant can’t move cards from the back of stacks. If the Giant chooses to discard cards, he can do so from any position within the castle stacks.

END OF GAME

The game can end in various ways.

To win the game, the Giant needs to stop me from making any more moves, have all four different Giant cards in a single unbroken group within a castle stack, or have one of each of the four different Giant cards shown at the front of four cast stacks. If any of these three things happen, the Giant wins.

For me to win, I need to complete three Beanstalks that are made up of six Beanstalk cards and have one of each of the three treasure cards – the goose, the harp, and the gold. If I can collect all three treasures, then I win!
