WHAT IS THE ARK OF THE COVENANT?

Hey there! Have you ever heard of the Ark of the Covenant? It’s a super cool game where we get to control temples, cities, roads, and flocks! We use tiles to create our own playing areas. The goal is to build our following and spread our word. The more followers we have in cities and roads, the more points we earn. And guess what? The player with the most points wins the game!

HOW DO WE SET UP?

Now, let’s talk about setting up the game. To start, we place the starting tile in the middle of the table with the front side up. Then, we take the rest of the tiles, shuffle them, and place them facing down in different stacks across the playing area. This way, everyone can easily reach them. The scoring track goes on the side, so we have plenty of space in the middle for placing our tiles.

I will start the game by choosing a color for my eight followers and a prophet. I’ll also pick an additional follower to use as my scoring marker, putting it on the starting space of the track. The player who last read a part of the Bible will kick off the game.

GAMEPLAY

In this game, we take turns clockwise. On my turn, I need to draw a land tile and place it somewhere on the table. Then, I have the option to put a follower or prophet on the tile I just placed. Alternatively, I can move the Ark of the Covenant along one to five tiles on the board. Any completed road or city will be scored at this point. After that, it’s the next player’s turn.

When you’re playing the game, remember that every land tile you place must touch another tile. And not only that, but you also need to make sure that the road, field, or city segments on the tiles connect smoothly. This is important to keep the game flowing and make sure everything fits together nicely.

During your turn, you can only place one follower. Remember, this follower can only come from your supply, and you can only place it on the tile that you just placed. Choose wisely where you want to put your follower because their position can greatly impact your score.

Speaking of scoring, things get even more interesting when you place your prophet. The prophet allows you to score double points in your city. So, if you plan your moves carefully and strategically, you can really elevate your score and regenerate a great response from the game.

Now, let’s talk about the Ark of the Covenant. When the first city is completed, the player who completed it gets to decide where to place the Ark. This decision is crucial because if you decide to move the Ark during your turn, you have the chance to earn extra points. Each follower that you pass with the Ark will earn you one point. So, keep an eye on the Ark and plan your moves accordingly to maximize your score.

The game continues with these rules and strategies until all tiles have been placed. It’s a fun and engaging experience that keeps you on your toes as you strategically place your tiles and followers, aiming for the highest score.

END OF GAME

Once the final land tile is in place, the game is over. It’s time to calculate our scores. If a temple isn’t finished, the player with the most followers on that temple will get three points. If a road or city remains incomplete, each player with a follower on that road or in that city will earn one point for each segment. Scrolls and oases are also worth one point each.

A finished road earns one point for each tile it spans. A completed city is two points per tile and two points for each scroll inside. These points are awarded to the player who has a follower on the road or inside the city. If there are multiple followers, the player with the most followers at that spot gets the points. Finally, a completed temple gives the player with the most followers there seven points.
