Welcome to Money Game!
Hey there! I’m here to tell you all about Money Game, a super fun card game that you can play with just 2 people or even more. The best part? You get to score lots of points!
But hey, Money Game isn’t just about points – it’s also a game where you can win some cold, hard cash. The default bet is 10 cents for every point you score above the average, and you lose 10 cents for every point below the average. So, the more points you get, the more money you can win!
Getting Started
First things first, we need to decide who the dealer is. We can just choose someone randomly and then pass the role to the left for each new deal. Simple, right?
Now, let’s get those cards shuffling! Each player will receive 6 cards. Make sure everyone gets a fair share.
Understanding the Cards
Before we jump in, let me explain the card rankings to you. The suits are ranked as follows: Ace is the highest, followed by King, Queen, Jack, and then all the way down to 2, which is the lowest.
During the game, there will be certain cards or criteria that will earn you extra points. Keep an eye out for those opportunities!
Let me explain the scoring system in a simpler way. In the game of trick-taking, there are different ways to earn points. There are four types of points: high, low, game, and jack.
High points are given to the team that has the highest trump card in play. It’s like a reward for having the strongest card. The team with the highest trump card gets 1 point.
Low points go to the team that wins a trick with the lowest trump card. It’s a way to recognize the skillful play of a weaker card. When a team wins with the lowest trump card, they also get 1 point.
The game point is given to the team that scores the most points overall. This is the big prize you want to aim for. We’ll talk more about how points are scored in a moment.
Lastly, there is the jack point. This is awarded to the team that wins the trick with the jack of trumps. It’s a small bonus point that adds excitement to the game.
In total, there are 4 possible points to be won in a round. These points add up to determine the winner of the game.
Now, let’s talk about how points are scored in a game. Each card has a value, and players tally their score based on the cards they win in tricks. Here’s the breakdown:
- An ace is worth 4 points.
- A king is worth 3 points.
- A queen is worth 2 points.
- A jack is worth 1 point.
- A 10 is worth 10 points.
These values are added up at the end of each round to determine the game points for each team. The team with the most game points wins the game.
BIDDING
Okay, here’s what happens when we all get our cards. The bidding round starts with the player on the dealer’s left, and each of us takes turns bidding higher or passing. The bid is based on how many points we think we can win in a round.
The lowest bid is 2, and the highest bid is when someone goes all out and shoots for the moon. To shoot for the moon, you have to win all four points and all six tricks.
If everyone else passes, the dealer has to make a bid of 2. But the dealer also has the chance to steal the highest bid by matching it.
Bidding continues until only one player is left or someone bids shoot for the moon. The person who wins the bidding becomes the pitcher.
Usually, the other players team up for a bit to try and stop the pitcher from winning their bid.
Now, Let’s Play the Game!
When we play the card game Pitch, the pitcher gets to make the first move, and the suit of the card they play becomes the trump for that round. The other players have a choice: they can either follow suit by playing a card of the same suit, or they can play a trump card. If they don’t have a card of the same suit or a trump, they can play any card from their hand.
The trick is won by the player who plays the highest-ranked trump card. If no trump cards were played, then the player with the highest card of the suit led takes the trick. The winner of the trick collects the cards and gets to choose which card to play to start the next trick.
All 6 tricks are played, and then the round comes to an end.
SCORING AND PAYOUTS
After each round, the scoring takes place.
When I play the game of Pitch, I always look forward to the part where I get to bid. It’s like a puzzle, trying to figure out how many points I can win in a round. The pitcher, which is the person who is bidding, will determine whether they were successful or not.
If the pitcher’s bid is successful, they get to mark down the number of points they earned during the round. It’s exciting to see my point total go up! But if the bid is not successful, the number that was bid gets subtracted from the pitcher’s total. It’s a bummer when my score goes down, but it’s all part of the game. Sometimes I even end up with a negative score!
It’s not just the pitcher who gets to score points, though. The opposing players also mark down any points they earned during the round. It’s always interesting to see how everyone’s totals change throughout the game.
There’s a special bid called “shooting for the moon” that I always find fascinating. In order to win this bid, you have to get all 4 points and win all 6 tricks. It’s not easy, but if you pull it off, it’s an impressive achievement. However, you can only win the bid if you actually bid it. Even if you meet all the criteria, you won’t win the points if you didn’t bid for them. That’s why it’s important to mark a successful bid with a star on your sheet.
There’s one more rule to keep in mind. If the Jack of the trump suit was not dealt, then the point cannot be won. It’s a little detail, but it can make a big difference in the game.
If you’re playing a game, you have the choice to stay or go whenever you want. And when you leave, you’ll get your payout right away, whether the game is still going or it’s already finished.
Here’s how the payout works: for every point you earn over the average, you’ll get 10 cents. But if you’re below the average, you’ll have to put in 10 cents for each point you’re missing.
Now, if you successfully bid on a move called “Shoot to the moon,” each player will give you a dollar. But if you’re not successful, you’ll have to give each player a dollar instead.
