PIGGY BANK

Hey there! Let me tell you about this awesome game called Piggy Bank! It’s all about playing cards and having a great time. The goal of the game is to avoid making the discard pile too big. If you go over the limit, you’ll lose a round and one of your gold coins. The player with the most gold coins at the end of the game is the ultimate winner!

Believe it or not, Piggy Bank was first introduced as an educational game way back in 1953. But don’t worry, it’s still super fun to play today! In fact, it’s published by Hoyle, a really cool company. And guess what? It’s also a fantastic way for kids to practice their basic addition skills. Learning can be exciting!

MATERIALS

Now, let’s talk about what comes in the box. You’ll find 11 Piggy Bank cards, 40 Coin cards, 2 Pig Out cards, 2 Oink-Oink cards, and 16 shiny Gold Coins. So cool, right?

Game Setup

First things first, let’s get this game set up! We need to start by separating the blue Piggy Bank cards from the rest of the deck. Give them a good shuffle and place them face down in the middle of the table. Now, flip over the top card and put it face up on the pile. This card shows us the total amount of money in the Piggy Bank, so remember not to go over that amount!

Now, let’s shuffle the remaining cards. This includes the Coins, Pig Out cards, and Oink-Oink cards. Deal five cards to each player. The rest of the cards will form the stock, so put them face down. Oh, and don’t forget to flip over the top card of the stock to reveal the first Running Total pile card.

Each player should also receive an even number of coins. If there are any coins left over, just set them aside for now.

THE GAME

When we play this game, we each have a hand of cards. Our goal is to add a card from our hand to a pile called the Running Total without making it too big.

MY TURN

I get to go first since I’m the youngest. I pick a card from my hand and add it to the Running Total. Then I tell everyone the new total. If it helps, I can lay my card down so everyone can see. After I add my card, I also get to draw a new one from the pile.

PIGGY CARDS

Uh-oh! If I play a Pig Out card, the Running Total becomes the same as the Piggy Bank amount. It doesn’t matter if the Running Total was already the same as the Piggy Bank amount, I can still play a Pig Out card.

OINK CARDS

When I play this card, the Running Total automatically goes back to zero.

Playing Continues

We keep playing like this until someone plays a card that makes the Running Total higher than the Piggy Bank amount. When that happens, they have to give up one of their gold coins, and the round is over.

To start a new round, we put the Piggy Bank card at the bottom of its pile and turn over a new card. We mix the Running Total cards back into the stack and give each player five new cards. We keep playing rounds until one player runs out of coins. Then the game is over.

Winning

When the game ends, the player with the most coins is the winner. If there is a tie, we keep playing until someone wins.
