The Orchard Game

Welcome to Orchard, a fun and exciting card game where you’ll experience the joy of harvesting fruit! In this solitaire game, your goal is to strategically place cards and dice to maximize your fruit yield. Let’s dive in and discover how to play!

What You Need

To play Orchard, you’ll need the following materials:

  • A deck of cards
  • A set of dice

Now that we have everything ready, let’s get started!

How to Play

In Orchard, your objective is to harvest as much fruit as you can. To do this, you’ll need to place cards and dice strategically on the playing area.

The cards can be placed horizontally or vertically. The key is to ensure that at least one tree overlaps with a tree of the same color that’s already on the table. When this happens, the die value for that tree increases, and you’ll harvest more fruit!

Keep placing cards and dice, aiming to increase the die values and yield more fruit. The game ends when you can no longer make any moves, so plan your moves carefully!

Remember, the goal is to harvest as much fruit as possible before the game concludes. Will you be able to maximize your harvest?

Now that you know how to play Orchard, it’s time to gather some friends or enjoy a solo session. Prepare for a delightful and fruitful gaming experience!

Hey there! So, if you’re looking for a fun game to play, I’ve got just the thing for you. All you need is two sheets of paper, a colored printer, and some dice. Let’s get started!

To begin, print off the double-sided cards and rule book using your colored printer. It’s super easy! Next, gather up 15 dice. You’ll want to make sure that all the dice are six-sided and color coordinate with the fruit on the cards.

Now, let’s talk about the dice colors. The 5 red dice represent apples, the 5 yellow dice are pears, and the purple dice are plums. You can mix it up with different colors if you want, but remember that each fruit can only have five dice available. So, choose wisely!

Oh, and don’t forget about the two tokens. These represent rotten fruit. They’re an important part of the game, so make sure to include them in your setup.

Alright, you’re all set! Now you have everything you need to start playing. Have fun and may the best fruit win!

Getting Started

Let’s prepare for a fun game! First, gather all the dice and tokens and stack them in a neat pile within easy reach. Now, take the deck of cards and give them a good shuffle. Place the deck face down to create the orchard. To start, draw the top card and place it face up. Next, draw two more cards to form your hand. We’re ready to begin!

THE GAME

When it’s my turn, I get to do three things: play a card, place dice, and draw a card.

PLAY A CARD

First, I choose a card from my hand to play. To play the card, it needs to have a tree color that matches one of the trees in the orchard. I can place the card over another card in the orchard, covering it up. The trees on my card have to match the ones I’m covering. I can put the card up and down or sideways, it’s up to me.

Place Dice

Whenever I play a card, I have the option to place a die on any tree on that card if it’s already covering another tree. To do this, I simply grab a die from the pile that matches the color of the tree and place it with the “1” side facing up. However, if there are no more dice of that color available, I won’t be able to place one.

But what if there’s already a die on the tree that I want to cover up? In that case, I’ll place my new die on top of the existing one and change its score value. If the die is currently at “1”, I’ll change it to “3”. If it’s already at “3”, I’ll change it to “6”. But if it’s already at “6”, I’ll leave it as it is. The value on the die represents the number of fruits I have harvested.

Time to Draw a Card!

Let’s wrap up your turn by drawing a card from the draw pile and adding it to your hand.

Two times during the game, you have the option to strategically place a card in a way that the trees don’t match. Imagine putting a card with an apple tree on top of a pear tree – those trees won’t match. If there was already a die on the pear tree, remove it from play and add it to the pile. Then, place the rotten fruit token on the new tree that didn’t match. Unfortunately, once a tree has produced rotten fruit, there’s no going back. It’s stuck that way forever. You can’t put any more cards on that tree.

ENDING THE GAME

Once all the cards have been played or if there are no legal moves left, the game comes to an end.

SCORING

To determine your total score, add up the values of all the dice. You should then subtract 3 points for each rotten fruit token that is on the board.

WINNING

Your performance in the game is evaluated based on the following scores:

Less than 25 points = Pal-tree

25 – 29 points = Forget-apple

30 – 34 points = Satisfac-tree

35 – 39 points = Remark-apple

40-44 points = Tree mendous

45-49 points = Plum-believable

50 or more points = Pretty Pear-fect
