LAST ONE
Last One is a fun card game that can be played with 2 to 6 players. The main objective of the game is to be the last player standing.
The game consists of multiple rounds, and the goal is to get rid of all the cards in your hand before anyone else. At the end of each round, players who still have cards in their hands will receive points based on the value of their remaining cards. Once a player reaches a predetermined number of points, they are out of the game.
SETUP
To start the game, the first dealer is chosen randomly, and the dealer position rotates to the left with each new round.
The dealer shuffles the deck of cards and deals a specific number of cards to each player. The number of cards dealt can be 4, 8, or 9, depending on what the players agree on.
Alright, let me explain how this game works. First, we take all the cards and place them face down. Then, we turn the top card face up to start the play pile. Simple enough, right?
So, what about the cards?
Well, in this game, the ranking of the cards doesn’t matter. You don’t have to worry about that. Instead, you’ll be looking at the rank or suit of the cards to decide if you can play them.
Now, some cards have a special value. These are the ones that matter when the round is over. Kings, Queens, Jacks, and 10s are all worth 10 points. Aces are worth 15 points. 8s are worth a whopping 25 points. Jokers, on the other hand, are worth a big 40 points. And all the other cards are worth whatever their face value is.
Now, let’s get into the gameplay!
The game starts with me, the player, sitting to the left of the dealer, unless the last card played changes that. When it’s my turn, I can either play a card from my hand onto the play pile or draw a card. If I choose to play a card, it has to match either the suit or the rank of the top card on the play pile.
However, if I can’t or don’t want to play a card on the play pile, I have to draw the top card from the stock and my turn ends.
The goal of the game is to get rid of all the cards in my hand. This ends the round and stops me from scoring any points. When I only have one card left, I have to announce it.
If I make a mistake or forget to announce my last card, I have to draw a card from the stockpile as a penalty.
Some cards have special rules that come into play when they are played.
When playing a game of cards, there is a special card called a joker. The interesting thing about this card is that it can be used as any card you want. You can even tell everyone which card it represents and use that card’s effects.
Another important card is the ace. When you play an ace, it changes the direction of the game. So, if the game is going clockwise, it will now go counterclockwise.
Then there are the jacks. When you play a jack, it skips the turn of the next player. This can be a strategic move to disrupt the flow of the game.
Let’s not forget about the eights. The eights are quite special because they can always be played. But when you play an eight, you also get to choose a suit. The next card that is played must be of the same suit that you chose.
Now, let’s talk about the fours. The fours are attack cards. When you play a four, you become the aggressor. The player who would have gone next becomes the “aggresse.” But here’s the interesting part: If the aggresse or any other player has the five of the same suit, they can play it and become the new aggressor. This cycle can continue until someone can’t play the next card in line. When this happens, the current aggresse must draw a number of cards from the deck, which is determined by the last card played by the aggressor.
In the game of Threes, I can play any card on top of the card I just played and activate its effects. It’s a simple but powerful ability that adds a layer of strategy to the game.
When I play a Two card, the next player has to draw a card from the stock and skip their turn. It’s a great way to disrupt their plans and give myself an advantage.
SCORING
The round comes to an end once a player gets rid of all their cards. But it’s not over for the other players! They have to calculate the value of the cards left in their hand and add them to their score. The scores keep accumulating over multiple rounds, and if a player reaches or exceeds the set number of points, they’re out of the game. It’s a high-stakes battle to stay in until the end!
END OF GAME
The game reaches its thrilling conclusion when only one player is left standing. And that player is declared the ultimate winner! It’s a tense and exciting moment that can leave you on the edge of your seat.
All in all, Threes is a game that’s easy to learn but offers plenty of strategic depth. So, if you enjoy games that keep you engaged and your mind sharp, you’ll definitely love Threes!
