INNOVATION
Hey there, it’s me – Innovation! I’m a game that was made for innovators like you. Together, we’ll build amazing civilizations using technology and creativity. But here’s the exciting part: you have the power to control the advancement of your civilization. Will you soar to new heights or get stuck in the dark ages? The choice is yours!
SETUP
Before we dive into the game, let’s set everything up. The cards need to be divided into ten decks, which we’ll call supply piles. Arrange these piles in a circular shape, like the numbers on a clock. In the center, place one card from ages one through nine – these are the normal achievements. The special achievements will be set aside in a separate column.
Now, it’s time to get into position. Make sure all the cards are within easy reach for everyone playing. Each player should have a clear area in front of them to build their civilization. Once everything is ready, we can begin our epic journey!
GAMEPLAY
Alright, let me break it down for you. So, we’re playing a board game, and each player takes turns, starting with the person to the left of the first player. First up, we all draw two age 1 cards. Now, here’s the thing, you gotta choose one card to play on your board and one to keep in your hand. And get this, the player who plays the card that comes first in alphabetical order goes first.
Now, on your first turn, you only get to do one action. But don’t worry, from the next turn onwards, you can pick two actions to do. You have four options for your actions: Drawing, Melding, Dogma, or Achieving. And guess what? You can mix and match those two actions any way you like.
As the game progresses, you’ll be adding cards to your score pile. And here’s a neat trick – if you have enough points and a top card that’s higher in value than the achievement, you can claim achievements using the achieve action.
Draw
To complete this action, first, you need to figure out which card on your board has the highest value. Once you know that, you can collect the top card from the corresponding age’s supply and add it to your hand.
Now let’s talk about the “Meld” action. In this action, you get to choose a card from your hand and place it on your board. If there’s a card of the same color already on your board, you place the new card on top of it. This helps to expand and enhance your existing collection. You can choose any card from your hand for this action.
But the most important action in the game is the “Dogma.” This is where the real progress happens. In the “Dogma” action, you select one of your top cards to activate. Before activating the card, count the number of featured icons you have on your board. If any other players have the same number of icons, they can also benefit from the innovation you’re about to earn.
Remember, the “Dogma” action is key to moving forward in the game. It allows you to make big moves and potentially collaborate with other players. So choose your cards wisely and strategize your Dogma actions to gain an edge over your opponents. Good luck!
If you and I share the effects, I might get a free Draw action.
Some effects tell us to slide a color in a certain direction. We just take the top card and slide it that way.
Achieve
If I want to complete this action, my score has to be five times the age of the achievement. I also need to have a top card that is worth more than the achievement. If I meet both of these requirements, I can collect an achievement.
Scoring
My score is based on the total value of the cards I’ve collected through dogma effects. If you and I both play, the player who has the required number of achievements wins. If neither of us has enough achievements, then we compare scores.
GAME OVER
Once you reach the ripe old age of ten, the game comes to a close. At this point, it’s time to add up all your points. The player with the highest score emerges as the ultimate winner. Alternatively, you can also bring the game to an abrupt end if you manage to earn a specific number of achievements. In team play, each team must accumulate six achievements to secure victory. With three players, you only need five achievements to claim the win. And if there are four players, just four achievements will be enough to emerge victorious.
