HIT THE DECK
Hey there! Have you ever played a game that’s a mashup of Uno and Slapjack? Well, let me introduce you to Hit the Deck – it’s a blast! The aim of the game is to end up with the fewest cards in your hand. Just like in Uno, you play cards by matching colors and numbers. But here’s where it gets interesting!
Get ready for some slapping action! When someone plays a Hit The Deck With a Hand Card, you’ll need to be quick and slap the deck before anyone else. If you’re too slow and you end up being the last one to slap, you’ll have to take four additional cards. And let me tell you, those extra cards can really add up!
SETUP
Alright, let’s get started! The first thing we need to do is remove all the jewelry from everyone’s hands. Next, we’ll choose someone to be the dealer. The dealer will shuffle the deck and hand out seven cards to each player, face down. The remaining cards will go in the middle to create the draw pile.
Now, we’re ready to begin! The dealer will flip over the top card from the draw pile and place it next to the pile to create the discard pile. If the first card is a Word Card, the player to the left of the dealer must follow the instructions on the card. But if it’s a Hit The Deck With A Hand Card, we’ll put it back in the draw pile and flip another card instead.
Let the Game Begin!
So, here’s how the game goes. First off, I’m the dealer, and the person on my left gets things started. They’ve gotta play a card from their hand that matches either in color or number. Simple, right? But if they don’t have a matching card, they gotta grab one from the draw pile. And if that new card matches, they can play it. But if they still can’t make a move, tough luck! It’s the next player’s turn.
Now, if the draw pile runs dry, no worries. Just shuffle up the discard pile and make it the new draw pile. Easy peasy. Just grab the top card to start things off.
Now here’s the important part. When a player is down to their last card, that’s when things really heat up. Points get tallied. If you’re lucky enough to have no cards left, you score zero points. Nice job! But if you’ve got those nifty Word Cards or Hit the Deck Cards, each one is worth a solid ten points. And all those Number Cards are just counted at face value.
When you reach one hundred points, the game is over. The player with the fewest points wins.
CARDS
Cut the Deck Cards
When you play a Cut the Deck card, the next player has to pick up half of the draw pile, take out the middle card, and put it face up on top of the discard pile. It becomes the new top card of the discard pile.
The player who played the “cut the deck” card has to skip their turn. The next player must keep playing the game or follow the instructions on the card. If it’s a Hit the Deck With a Hand card, they have to yell “HIT THE DECK WITH A HAND,” just like they would if they had played the card themselves.
Flip the Deck Cards
When you play a Flip the Deck card, the whole game gets turned around! The Draw Pile and Discard Pile swap places, making things quite topsy-turvy. But here’s the best part – you get to go again! And now, instead of playing to the left, everyone starts playing to the right. If two Flip the Deck cards are played one after the other, though, the second one gets mixed back into the deck. The card that was underneath it becomes the new top card of the discard pile.
Get Ready to “Hit the Deck” with Number Cards
Have you got a Number Card? Great news – you can play it on top of any color card! But here’s the catch: the next player in line has to play a card with the same number. If they don’t have a matching card, tough luck – they have to pick one from the pile. Hey, maybe it’ll be the card they need! If not, well, it’s their turn now. Good luck!
Let’s keep the game going by playing number cards that match. If someone plays a number card that matches, we can continue playing.
Oh, and don’t forget about the color cards!
If you have a color card, you can play it on top of any color card. But here’s the catch – the next player in line must play a card with the same color. If they don’t have a card of the same color, they have to draw a card from the pile. If the drawn card matches the color, they can play it. If not, it’s the next player’s turn.
We’ll keep going around like this until someone plays a color card that matches. Then it’s back to normal gameplay!
And don’t forget, we also have the hand cards!
When you play these cards, you can play them on any color card. Once you play one of these cards, you have to say out loud “HIT THE DECK WITH A HAND”! Then, everyone has to put one hand on top of the discard pile right away. If you’re the last one to put your hand down, you have to draw four cards from the draw pile.
If you forget to say the magic words, you have to draw four cards as a punishment. The next player can then place any card on top of the discard pile.
End of Game
The game ends when a player reaches 100 points. The player who reaches 100 points is automatically the loser, and the player with the lowest number of accumulated points wins the game.
