FILDINSKY
Welcome to Fildinsky, a fun and strategic card game that can also be called Polish Bezique. It’s a game designed for two players, and it shares similarities with Pinochle and Bezique. In Fildinsky, you earn points by creating melds, but what sets it apart is that you can actually build these melds using the cards you capture during play.
THE CARDS & THE DEAL
In Fildinsky, you’ll be using a special deck of cards that consists of 64 cards. This deck is made up of two sets called Skat packs, and each pack contains cards ranging from 7 to Ace. It’s important to note that there are two of every card in each suit, including two 7s, two 8s, and so on.
At the beginning of the game, each player is dealt 8 cards. The remaining cards are placed face down to create a draw pile. To determine the trump suit for the game, simply turn over the top card from the draw pile.
THE PLAY
BASIC PLAY
When we play a card game like this, things can get interesting. Here’s how it works: I start off by playing a card from my hand, and then you get to play one too. You can choose any card you want, even if it’s not the same suit as mine. But here’s the kicker – the highest card in the suit I played, or the highest trump card, is the one that wins the trick.
Once a trick is done, the winner gets to draw a card from the pile. Don’t worry, though – the loser gets to draw one too. Then it’s the winner’s turn to lead the next trick, and the game keeps going like that.
But hold on, there’s more!
When you win a trick, you can take those cards and show them off by placing them face up on the table. It’s like having a mini-collection! And if you want, you can use some of those cards to make melds. Each turn, you can make up to two melds, but remember, you can only use each card once. Once you’ve made a meld and scored some points, those cards are out of play.
Just remember, only the winner can make those special groups of cards called melds! As I build my melds, I keep track of my score.
THE DEECE
When I win a trick that has the Deece (that’s the 7 of trumps), I can trade it in for the turn-up card. But I gotta be the first one to capture a trick with the Deece. If I’m the second to capture a trick with a trump 7, tough luck for me, no turn-up card exchange for ya!
THE DRAW PILE EMPTIES
When there are no more cards in the draw pile, there are only eight tricks left. Now things get trickier. I gotta follow the suit that was led if I have a card with that suit. And I gotta try to win the trick if I can. But if I don’t have a card with that suit, I gotta play a trump card. And if I don’t have a trump card, I can play any card I want.
When I play a card game, the person who plays the highest card in the same suit that was led or the highest Trump card wins the round and gets to start the next one. If two players play the same card, the person who played it first wins.
While we’re playing, we can still collect and score melds.
Once we finish all the rounds, we add up all the points to see who’s the winner. We take turns dealing the cards.
How to Score Points
We keep track of the points as we earn them. It’s a good idea to use poker chips with different values.
Whenever someone wins a round, each Ace or 10 card in the round is worth ten points. Each Trump suit card with the number 7 is worth 10 points too. And if you win the last round before we run out of cards, you get 10 points.
While we’re playing, we can also earn points for making these melds:
A Trump Sequence (J, Q, K, 10, A) is worth 250 points.
When it comes to playing the card game Bezique, it’s important to understand the point system. Here’s a breakdown of the points you can score:
- Royal Marriage (Trump Q/K) = 40 points
- Common Marriage (Q/K) = 20 points
- Four Aces = 100 points
- Four Kings = 80 points
- Four Queens = 60 points
- Four Jacks = 40 points
- Bezique (Queen of Spades/Jack of Diamonds) = 40 points
- Double Bezique = 500 points
WINNING
To win the game of Bezique, you need to be the first player to earn 2000 points. However, if both players surpass the 2000 point threshold, the player with the highest score is declared the winner.
If you like card games and are looking for a challenge, you’ll love Bezique. It’s a game that requires strategic thinking and careful planning. By following the point system and aiming for high-scoring combinations, you can elevate your gameplay and increase your chances of winning.
So, if you’re ready for a thrilling card game experience, give Bezique a try. Remember, the goal is to be the first player to reach 2000 points and claim victory. Good luck!
