DISCOVER IT: BOARD GAME

Discover It is a fun board game that kids can play with 1 to 6 players. The ultimate objective of the game is for all players to reach the castle before the clock strikes 12. If we don’t make it in time, we all lose. But if we all reach the castle, we all win!

PREPARATION

First, let’s set up the game board in the center where everyone can reach it. Each player then picks their character piece for the game. Next, we need to shuffle the search cards and place them near the game board. Make sure the hourglass, markers, and spinner are also within easy reach. Set the clock to one, and now we’re ready to dive into the adventure!

THE JOURNEY BEGINS

Alright, let’s get this game started! I’m the youngest player, so I’ll go first. Here’s how it works: I’ll spin the spinner to see what my turn will be. If a number comes up, that’s how many spaces I’ll move forward.

As I make my way across the board, I might come across branches in the path. At these points, I get to choose which path I want to take. There are also shortcuts scattered around the board. If I land on one of these shortcuts, I can take it and move to the next spot.

Now, let’s talk about the search symbols. When I spin the spinner, I might land on a search symbol, or I might come across one on the board. If I do, the color of the symbol determines which search card I’ll use. And if I land on the spot on the board with the symbol, I get to choose which side of the search card to use.

When we start a search, we’ll flip the timer and announce the word to everyone. Then, we’ll search the board for pictures that somehow relate to the word. Whenever we find a fitting picture, we’ll place a plastic marker on it. We have until the timer runs out to find as many pictures as we can. Once the timer is done, we’ll count the number of pictures we found and move our characters forward by the same number of spaces.

If we spin the clock, we’ll move it forward the correct number of spaces, and the same player gets to spin again.

THE END OF THE GAME

The game ends either when all players successfully reach the castle or when the clock strikes midnight. If all players make it before the clock strikes, we win! But if any of our characters don’t make it in time, we all lose.
