ESCAPE: THE CURSE OF THE TEMPLE

WHAT IS ESCAPE: THE CURSE OF THE TEMPLE?

Escape: The Curse of the Temple is a cool board game that you can play with your friends. It’s all about working together to beat the game and escape from a spooky, ancient temple.

The game is super fast-paced. You don’t have to take turns or wait for your friends to finish. You only have 10 minutes to roll dice as fast as you can and complete your goals. But here’s the catch: you can only win if everyone makes it out of the temple! So you gotta be a team player and help each other out.

HOW TO START

Okay, here’s what you need to do:

First, grab the starting and exit tiles and put them to the side. Then, mix up the rest of the tiles to make a draw pile. Put the starting token in the middle and draw 2 more tiles to go on either side. Now, take the top 4 tiles and shuffle the exit tile into them. Put these tiles at the bottom of the draw pile. If you’re playing alone, just stick the exit tile somewhere in the center of the draw pile.

Next, get the gem holder ready. The number of gems you need depends on how many people are playing. For 1 or 2 players, put 7 gems in the holder. For 3 players, use 11 gems. If you have 4 players, get 14 gems, and for 5 players, you’ll need 16 gems.

When we start the game, we all get to pick a color for our characters. I choose my favorite color, place my character in the starting room, and take a token of the same color. This token is important because it represents me in the game. I also grab 5 dice and an escape token, which is also the same color as my character. But if I’m playing alone, I get 7 dice instead of 5.

Now, it’s time to get the game started! We put on the CD, which gives us some instructions and sets a timer for 10 minutes with some music.

Let’s Learn About Tiles and Dice

In the rule book, there’s a section that explains all the different symbols and tokens we’ll see on the tiles and dice in the game. It’s important to understand what they mean.

Time to Play!

When we play this game, we all act at the same time and as quickly as possible. Depending on the dice we roll, we can do a few different things. We can enter a room, discover a new room, activate a gem, escape, or face fate.

We use the rolled dice for the action they’re associated with, and then roll them again. We can also set some dice aside to use later, and even roll them again whenever we want.

To enter a room, we have to go in and out through a door that isn’t blocked.

When we find a new room, we leave through an unblocked door that leads to nowhere, and a new room appears.

If we want to activate gems, we need to have the right numbers on the dice. Sometimes, other adventures in the room can help us with this. If we complete the task, we take the specified number of gems and put them in the room.

If you make it to the exit, you can trade in some of your keys to escape. If you do, you can give one of your remaining dice to another player so they can use it right away.

If you dare to challenge fate, you can take a gem from a room and put it back in its spot. Everyone playing must agree to this. It lets the person who did it roll all their black-masked dice again. You can only do this twice in a game.

THE GAME IS OVER

The game ends after 10 minutes. If all the gems are activated and everyone has escaped, you win. But if there’s still someone left in the temple, you all lose.
