A Game of Double Solitaire

Double Solitaire is a twist on the classic card game where the objective is to move all the cards from the tableau and stockpile into four build piles. It’s a game for two players, and each player uses their own 52-card deck.

Get Ready to Play

To set up the game, each player needs a deck of cards with different backs to tell them apart. Double Solitaire is also known as Double Klondike.

How to Play

Once the game is set up, the players compete against each other. The goal is to be the first to move all of their cards into the build piles.

The Tableau

When you play Double Solitaire, each player gets their own layout. You’ll deal 28 cards, dividing them into seven piles. The first pile on the left has one card, the second has two cards, the third has three cards, and so on, until the seventh pile on the right has seven cards. Both players share four foundation piles between their layouts.

Any leftover cards after dealing form a stockpile.

You can play this game by taking turns or racing to see who finishes first. Usually, people play Double Solitaire by taking turns. But if you want to race, you can follow the rules for traditional Solitaire, which you can find in the link above. The player who finishes first wins!

TAKE TURNS OR RACE TO THE FINISH

When we start the game, I’ll go first if my face-up card has a lower ranking than yours. The face-up card is the one in the pile on the far left.

During your turn, you can make moves just like you would in a game of Solitaire. You can rearrange the cards in your layout, move them to the foundation piles, or take them off your discard pile. Your turn comes to an end when you can’t or don’t want to make any more moves. This is signaled by flipping over the face-down card from your stock and discarding it.

The game will end when one of us is able to play all of our cards to the foundation piles, or if both of us can’t make any more moves. If the game ends because we’re blocked and can’t make any more moves, the player who has added the most cards to the foundation piles wins.
