Welcome to Croatian Lora!
Croatian Lora is an exciting card game designed for four players. The objective of the game is to accumulate the highest number of points throughout the different rounds.
In this game, each player takes turns dealing for eight rounds, resulting in a total of 32 rounds being played before the game concludes. During each round, the dealer uses a specific contract to determine the points awarded to the players.
Getting Started
To set up the game, first remove all cards numbered 6 and below from the deck, leaving you with a deck of 32 cards.
The initial dealer is selected randomly and passes the role to the right after completing their eight rounds of dealing. Before each round, the dealer shuffles the deck and then has the player to their left cut it. Lastly, the dealer proceeds to distribute eight cards to each player.
When playing Croatian Lora, each dealer deals 8 consecutive rounds. After each round, we tally our scores before starting the next round.
Card Ranking
In Croatian Lora, there are no trumps, but the cards still have a specific order. The Ace is the highest ranked card, followed by the King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, and 7 as the lowest ranked card.
GAMEPLAY
While there are 8 different contracts in Croatian Lora, most of the contracts follow the same set of rules.
The round always starts with the player to the right of the dealer. They have the freedom to lead with any card in their hand. The following players must play a card of the same suit if they have one. However, if they don’t have a card of the same suit, they may play any card they choose. The winner of each trick is the player who plays the highest card of the suit led. The winner of a trick then leads the next trick.
Contracts
So, there are 8 different types of contracts in this game, and they are played in a specific order. Each dealer starts out with contract 1 and once they finish contract 8, they go back to contract 1.
The first contract is called Sto vise. The objective here is to win tricks. Whenever you win a trick, you earn 1 point.
The second contract is called Sto manje. In this one, the goal is actually to avoid winning tricks. Every trick you end up winning counts as -1 point.
The third contract is known as Kralj herc-zadnji stih. The objective here is to either avoid winning the king of hearts or the last trick, or alternatively, to win both of them. If you end up winning the king of hearts, you get -4 points, and if you win the last trick, you also score -4 points. But, if by chance you manage to win both, you actually get 8 points instead.
Hey there!
Let me tell you about a fun card game called Babe. The objective of the game is either to avoid winning any Queens or to collect all of them. If you manage to win all the Queens, you’ll score 8 points! But be careful, because each Queen you win will deduct 2 points from your score.
Now, let’s move on to another card game called Hercevi. In this game, the aim is either to avoid winning any hearts or to win them all. Just like with Babe, winning all the hearts will give you 8 points. However, each heart you win will deduct 1 point from your score.
So, in both of these games, you have to make tough choices. Do you want to go for a high score and collect all the cards, or do you want to play it safe and avoid winning any? The choice is yours!
Hey there! So, there’s this game called Lora, which is a bit different from other games. Instead of trick-taking, we’re playing a round that’s kind of similar to Fan Tan. Our goal is to play cards from our hands in a specific order. The person who goes first sets the ranking order for all four suits. For example, let’s say I start by playing a 10 of clubs. In this round, the cards must be played in this order: 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace, 7, 8, and 9. Got it? Let’s play!
When I play a game called Ranking, the first player sets a ranking for the suits. After that, the other players must either start a new suit or play a card from another suit in the specified order. All cards are placed in their respective piles and must follow the established order. If a player is unable to play a card, they will pass their turn and whistle. The round is over when a player has no cards left in their hand. At that point, that player earns 8 points, while the remaining players lose 1 point for each card left in their hand and each time they whistled.
In another game called Prognoza, the number seven is important. Each player predicts how many tricks they will win in the round. If a player’s prediction is correct, they earn 4 points. However, if their prediction is incorrect and they win too many or too few tricks, they lose 4 points.
Did you know that the eighth card game is called Sljepic? It’s a game of pure luck. Instead of looking at our cards, we keep them face down. When it’s time to play, everyone flips their top card at the same time. The player with the highest card of the same suit as the leading card wins the trick. They become the leader for the next round. Each trick you win earns you a point.
SCORING
After every round, we add up our scores and keep track of them as we play each round. We keep doing this until we finish 32 rounds, and then the game is over.
END OF GAME
The game ends after the 32nd round. The player with the highest score at that point is the winner of the game.
