Welcome to Buy Your Card Poker!

Hi there! I’m going to tell you all about Buy Your Card Poker. The goal of this game is simple: you want to have the highest or lowest ranking hand to win the pot.

Buy Your Card Poker can be played with 2 to 6 players, and you’ll need a standard deck of 52 cards. The ranking of the cards goes from highest to lowest: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.

This is a casino-style game, so it’s intended for adults like you!

Let’s Get Started!

Buy Your Card Poker is a cool variation of Five Card Stud Poker. In this game, buying cards is like a special move. It’s not really a bet that you have to call or raise. Instead, it’s a set amount of chips that you spend to improve your hand.

Here’s How You Play

Okay, here’s the deal. In Buy Your Card Poker, you have the option to get rid of some of your cards. Why would you do that? Well, by discarding your cards, you’ll be able to buy new ones that could potentially be better. It’s all about making strategic choices.

Let’s talk about a card game called poker. Have you ever heard of it? It’s a fun game where players try to win the pot by placing bets. To start, each player is dealt five cards. The dealer gives out two cards face-down and three cards face-up for everyone to see.

Now, here’s where it gets interesting. You get to look at your face-down cards, but the rest are visible to all players. The dealer then places three more cards on the table, face-up. These cards are available for purchase. The card farthest from the deck is worth 1 unit, the middle card is 2 units, and the card closest to the deck is 3 units. The card on top of the deck, facing down, is worth 4 units. These units are equivalent to the ante or the minimum bet.

This version of poker is called Hi/Lo declaration. Before the showdown, players need to declare if they are playing for a high hand or a low hand. There are three rounds of buying, with betting rounds in between. It adds an extra layer of strategy and suspense to the game.

When it’s time to buy cards, the game starts with the player to the left of the dealer. Then, it goes around the table in a clockwise direction. During my turn, I have three choices:

  • I can buy a card. I can discard one of the cards from my hand and buy another card from the four available for purchase. The money I spend goes into the pot. If I decide to buy the top card from the face-down deck, I can peek at it, but I have to keep it face-down. The face-up cards stay visible, except if they’re replacing a hidden card, in which case they become face-down, even though other players know what they are. I need to have at least two face-down cards.
  • I can stand pat. This means I choose not to buy a card, and my hand remains the same.
  • I can fold. If I fold, I throw my cards away and don’t participate in the rest of the hand. I lose any bets I made and can’t win the pot.

When you play this card game, the dealer will swap out any face-up cards that you purchase with a fresh card that is also visible to everyone. The prices for the cards will stay the same. Once each betting round is finished, the face-up cards will be replaced.

The betting round begins with the player who has the best hand.

Once the third round of betting is completed, players must decide if they want to play for the highest hand, the lowest hand, or both, before the final showdown. If you have the highest hand or the lowest hand, you will split the prize money.

After the third round of betting, players must decide if they want to play for the highest hand, the lowest hand, or both, before the final showdown. If you have the highest hand or the lowest hand, you will split the prize money.
