Welcome to Bauernheinrich!
Hey there! Have you heard of Bauernheinrich? It’s a super fun card game that started in Germany. You can play it with German cards, French cards, or even a regular deck with a little adjustment. The best part? It’s for up to four players, and each player has their own suit. So, let’s dive in and start shedding those cards!
Setting Up the Game
Alright, let’s get everything ready. First things first, we need to figure out who’s dealing and where everyone is sitting. We can do that by drawing cards to determine the high card. Whoever gets the highest card becomes the first dealer and gets to choose their seat first. The dealer position will move counterclockwise around the group. And don’t worry if you draw the lowest card, you’ll just pick your seat last. Simple enough, right?
First, let’s get the game started! The dealer will shuffle the cards and then it’s time for the player on their right to cut the deck. Once that’s done, the dealer will deal each player three cards, then two cards, and finally three more cards. So, each player should end up with eight cards in their hand. Now we’re ready to begin!
How to Play
Now that everyone has their cards, it’s time to examine them and claim our suits. Don’t worry, it’s easy! The suits are assigned based on where we’re sitting in the group. The player who has the Ace of Clubs gets to claim Clubs. Then, we’ll go clockwise around the group, with the next player getting Spades, followed by Hearts, and finally Diamonds.
When I play the game of Clubs, I get to lead the first trick. I can choose any card to start with. Then, the next player can only play a higher ranked card of the same suit. They can also play any card from their own suit. And if they have a Jack, they can play that too.
If someone can’t play a card to the trick, they have to take all the cards that have been played and add them to their own hand. We keep playing like this until one player doesn’t have any cards left in their hand. That’s when the game ends, and that player is the winner! It doesn’t matter when it happens, as soon as someone runs out of cards, that’s it!
The End of the Game
The game ends when a player has no more cards in their hand. As soon as that happens, the game is over and we have a winner!
