Songbirds Variant Rules
Let’s talk about some exciting new rules for playing the game Songbirds! These rules will add a fresh twist to the game and make it even more fun.
So, you know how in Songbirds you have a set of cards with different birds on them, and each bird has a different number of points? Well, in this new variant, we’re going to shake things up a bit. Instead of just scoring points with the birds, we’re going to introduce some special abilities that will really spice up the gameplay.
Here’s how it works. Each bird card will now have a special ability listed on it. These abilities can be anything from stealing cards from other players to skipping a turn. And here’s the cool part – you can use these abilities at any time during the game, not just when you play the bird card.
Imagine this scenario: you’re playing a bird card that gives you the ability to steal a card from another player. You spot a card in another player’s hand that you really want. Well, now you have the power to take it! Just activate your bird’s ability, and that card is yours. It adds a whole new level of strategy to the game.
But wait, there’s more. Along with these special abilities, we’re also introducing event cards. These cards will have different effects that can dramatically change the course of the game. For example, one event card might allow you to instantly score double points for your birds, while another might force all players to discard their entire hand. These event cards will keep you on your toes and make every game a unique experience.
So, are you ready to try out these new variant rules? I think you’ll find that they add an exciting twist to the game and bring a whole new level of strategy and unpredictability. Whether you’re stealing cards, activating special abilities, or dealing with unexpected events, the Songbirds variant rules will keep you engaged and entertained for hours. Good luck and have fun!
To get started with the game, follow these simple setup instructions. Instead of placing one Songbird card at the center, place nine cards in two diagonal lines in the forest. Then, when dealing out the Songbird cards, only deal one to yourself and keep the rest as a draw deck.
How to Play
- I’ll play one card from my hand and place it in a space in the forest, following the standard placement rules.
- If a favored songbird hasn’t been chosen yet, I’ll play one card from my hand and place it face-up in front of me. This will be my favored songbird. I can only do this once per game.
End of the Game
The game ends when all of the spaces in the forest are filled.
When you play the game, you’ll earn Berry tokens and calculate your victory points based on your chosen songbird card and color. To find your final score, subtract the total victory points of the other three songbird colors from your own victory points.
For example, let’s say Red has 44 points, Blue has 17 points, Green has 23 points, and White has 7 points. If your favored songbird is Red 5, your score would be 2 (5 + 44 – 17 – 23 – 7).
If you don’t choose a favored songbird, your score will be 0.
Now, let’s evaluate your score:
– If you have 0 victory points or below, you’re a Rookie.
– If you have 1-19 victory points, you’re an Amateur.
– If you have 20-39 victory points, you’re a Student.
– If you have 40-54 victory points, you’re a Professional.
– If you have 55 or more victory points, you’re a Superstar.
If you prefer to play the Co-Op Variant of the game, it’s almost the same as the Solo Variant, but with a few small differences.
Now, let’s get set up and start playing!
Let’s get started! I’ll give each of us one card. The person who last ate an egg dish will go first.
Game Start
The game starts with the first player and goes clockwise from there. We will all take turns, just like in the Solo Variant.
Only one player can choose their favorite songbird for the game.
End of the Game
The end of the game and scoring will be done the same way as in the Solo Variant.
