I was in a chamber filled with mesmerizing screens. In the midst of it all, two princesses named Ding and Fang had embarked on a daring escape to reunite with their beloved captains.
However, there was a major obstacle in their path. The number of guards had tripled overnight, making it nearly impossible for the princesses to identify their lovers. Despite spending a long time talking to each other, they always remained hidden behind screens!
According to an ancient legend, the princesses had a glimmer of hope. It was said that they could recognize their true love through encounters with animals they would encounter during their escape. Each animal embodied a specific quality of their beloved.
The graceful Crane represented honesty, while the clever Fox symbolized wisdom. As for the wise Owl, it was the embodiment of clairvoyance.
Your Mission
The aim of the game is just like “The Princesses Run Away!” game, but now with three times the number of guards to choose from. You’ll need to figure out which captain your princess is in love with using the two legendary animals associated with them.
These legendary animals represent the qualities of the captains that the princesses have fallen for. To find out the true beloved captain, you must first locate the animals using your magic mirror holders. Then, consult your Secret Objective card for information on which of the three captains is the right one for your princess.
Before the game starts, each player secretly selects two of their three legendary animals and draws one Secret Objective card from their deck. Any unused items can be put back in the box.
Example: Woah, check it out! You’ve made some serious progress in the game. You just discovered two legendary animals, the fox and the crane. Nice job, my friend! Now, here’s the deal. Your objective card says that the beloved captain is the third legendary animal. To win the game, you gotta move your princess right in front of him. It’s game time!
Game Setup
Alright, let’s get this party started! First things first, everyone picks a color. Then, grab one of your Secret Objective cards and get ready. Oh, and don’t forget to grab 10 empty screens, too.
Now, take six of those screens and slide in the princess, the maid, the two magic mirror holders, and two of the three legendary animals. Keep those babies hidden, we don’t want anyone peeking!
Example: I want to share with you the initial 10 screens of the red player and his Secret Objective card.
Now, let’s walk through the following steps together:
1. First, we need to put 5 empty screens on the lines in the middle of the game board.
2. Next, we’ll mix up our 10 screens and place them on the first two lines of the board, in any order we choose. Remember, the princess and maid screens should be placed on the first line facing us.
3. Finally, we’ll take our three captains and position them on three of the five spots at the entrance of the chamber of screens, across from us. Then we’ll set our Secret Objective card face down right in front of us.
And now, we’re ready to begin! The youngest player gets to start the game.
Playing the Game
Welcome to The Legendary Animals! This game is a lot like The Princesses Run Away!, but with an exciting twist called The Stunning Paralysis.
When it’s my turn to play, I have a few steps to follow:
- First, I have to move a screen. This is required.
- If I want, I can also point at one of my opponent’s screens. This is optional.
During my opponent’s turn, I have a special move called The Stunning Paralysis that I can try.
The Stunning Paralysis
Now, this move is pretty interesting. If at any point in the game, I put my Princess screen in front of one of my opponent’s magic mirror holders, I can attempt a stunning paralysis.
The stunning paralysis is a risky move, kind of like a poker stunt. It can give me an immediate win, but it’s also a bit dangerous.
Here’s how it works:
- When my opponent places the screen with their Princess in front of one of my magic mirror holders, I focus all of my attention on it and shout out: “PRINCESS JING!”
- My opponent reveals the chosen screen, and I quickly check if my Princess is hiding behind it. Here’s what happens next:
- If my opponent’s Princess is indeed hiding behind that screen, she becomes completely paralyzed, and I am given the incredible opportunity of having five turns to continue searching for the remaining clues and reuniting with my beloved captain. If I manage to achieve this within those five turns, victory is mine.
- However, if my opponent’s Princess is not hiding behind the chosen screen, then they are the ones who instantly win the game.
So here’s the deal – you’ve got to find the other princess, but don’t worry, you don’t have to bring her back to base. All you need to do is slyly position a mirror holder nearby and hope that your opponent places their princess right in front of it. That’s when you make your move and hit them with the stunning paralysis!
Game Over!
The game ends when one player manages to position their Princess screen perfectly in front of the beloved captain, which is marked by the two iconic animals. And if you’re the one who accomplishes this, you’re the winner!
