Setting Up War Chest for Four Players

Introduction

Welcome! Today, I am going to guide you on how to set up War Chest for four players. War Chest is an exciting strategy game that can be played with friends and family. It requires careful planning, cunning tactics, and a dash of luck to emerge victorious.

Components

Before we dive into the setup, let’s go over the components you will need:

  • 1 War Chest board
  • 16 Unit Tokens matching the chosen player color
  • 15 Control Tokens in each player’s color
  • 5 Season Tokens
  • 4 Player Reference cards
  • 1 Starting Player marker

Step 1: Placing the Board

First, find a spacious table or any flat surface where you can assemble the War Chest board. Lay it out with enough space for every player to comfortably reach their units and tokens.

Step 2: Distributing Tokens

Now, distribute the Unit Tokens and Control Tokens to each player. Every player should receive 4 Unit Tokens and 8 Control Tokens of their chosen color.

Step 3: Season Tokens

Place the 5 Season Tokens in a visible spot near the board. These tokens will be used to track the current season in the game.

Step 4: Player Reference Cards

Give each player a Player Reference card. These cards provide important information about the game rules, unit abilities, and actions available to players. Make sure everyone understands the contents of their cards before proceeding.

Step 5: Determining the Starting Player

To determine the Starting Player, you can use any method you prefer. It could be as simple as rolling a dice, flipping a coin, or even playing a quick game of rock-paper-scissors. The Starting Player will be the first to take their turn in the game.

Step 6: Organizing Tokens and Markers

Keep all remaining tokens and the Starting Player marker within easy reach of all players. These will be used throughout the game to track and manage actions, units, and control.

Conclusion

And there you have it! You are now ready to dive into the exciting world of War Chest with a four-player setup. Remember, strategic planning, tactical decision-making, and adaptability are key to victory. May the best strategist win!

Hey there, are you ready to dive into the exciting world of the four-player variant of the game? Let’s go!

In this version, two teams, each consisting of two players, go head to head. First, each team needs to choose a faction. Once that’s done, it’s time for each player to grab a bag and a shiny Royal Coin. Our teams will also share 8 Control Markers.

Now, each player needs to carefully place their Royal Coin into their bag. Don’t forget, teams will also need to position their Control Markers on the 3 matching location spaces on the board. The other 8 locations? Well, they’ll just have to remain neutral for now.

All set so far? Great! Now, let’s shuffle those 16 Unit Cards. Each player will get 3 of them. You can either distribute them randomly (the standard game way) or select them through drafting (if you want to crank up the challenge with advanced drafting rules). These 3 units will be the ones you have at your disposal this time around.

Okay, now grab the coins that match your 3 unit cards. Keep 2 coins of each type in your bag and put the remaining coins in piles right next to the corresponding Unit Cards. These coins make up your supply, so guard them well!

Hey there! Let’s get this game started by flipping the Initiative Marker. If the faction on the coin matches yours, congrats! You now have the initiative and can take the first action. Exciting, right?

Game Play

To make things fair, let’s sit in a way that team members are facing each other, with players from the other team on their left and right. This way, both teams will have equal chances to take actions throughout the game. Pretty clever, huh?

Now, the player with initiative goes first, followed by the player to their left. The turn order goes clockwise, and we keep going until all the coins have been used. Just a rule: you can’t use the Claim Initiative action to take the Initiative Marker from your teammate. Makes sense, right?

Team Interaction

When playing as a team, we both have control over our locations. This means that either one of us can send a unit to a location that we already control. It’s important to remember that if a teammate already has a unit in a location, we consider it as a friendly unit for tactics. However, we cannot recruit units for each other using the recruit action. We need to communicate openly with each other throughout the game.

The Game’s End

The game comes to a close when one team manages to place all their Control Markers. When this happens, that team emerges as the victor.

Drafting in the Four-player Game

When setting up, we lay down 12 Unit Cards face-up in the middle of the playing area. To determine which team gets to draft first, we flip the Initiative Marker. After that, the team members discuss and decide who among them will be the first to draft.

Once the decision is made, the first player selects a Unit Card. Then, it’s the turn of the next player to their left. This process continues in a clockwise direction until it’s the fourth player’s turn.

When the fourth player’s turn arrives, they get to pick 2 Unit Cards. Then, the drafting order switches to counter-clockwise, with each player taking turns to select one card until it’s the first player’s turn again.
