When it comes to setting up a game of Trismegistus, there are a few simple steps you need to follow.

Getting Started with the Game

If you’re new to Trismegistus, we suggest starting with the Introductory Game Setup outlined below.

First, find the Laboratory boards for the alchemists: Claude Duval, Isaac Newton, Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa, and Roger Bacon. You can easily identify these boards by the images of the alchemists’ faces on them, as shown in points 1-4 below.

Okay, let’s get started with this cool game called Duval Laboratory! First things first, we need to decide who’s going to be the starting player. We can do this by picking someone randomly or by choosing the person with the most experience.

Once we have our starting player, they’ll be in charge of the Duval Laboratory board and a bunch of cards. These cards include the Starting Experiment card, the Masterpiece Experiment card, and the Publication card. Oh, and don’t forget about the Starting Artifact that they get too!

The starting player gets to put one of their bigger discs on the first position of the Current Round Order track. That’ll determine the turn order for the game.

So, here’s what happens: you, the second player, are in charge of the Newton Laboratory board. It’s pretty cool, right? You also get some cards and an Artifact. Nice! You take one of your bigger discs and put it on the 2nd spot of the Current Round Order track. Oh, and you also get 1 Ethereal die token. Sweet!

If there’s a third player joining us, they get the Agrippa Laboratory board along with the cards and the Artifact below. They should put one of their larger discs on the 3rd spot of the Current Round Order track and get 2 Ethereal die tokens.

If there’s a fourth player joining us too, they get the Bacon Laboratory board along with the cards and the Artifact below. They should put one of their larger discs on the 4th spot of the Current Round Order track and get 2 Ethereal die tokens and an extra How to setup Trismegistus Official Rules UltraFoodMessmaterial. If you have any unneeded Laboratory boards, Starting Experiments, Masterpiece Experiments, or Starting Artifacts, put them back in the game box. Now, let’s get started with the General Setup. Don’t worry about figuring out the player order or dealing with Experiments, Artifacts, or Publications for now.

General Setup

1. First, unfold the main game board and put it in the center of the table.

2. Next, divide all the cards into different decks: Starting Experiments, Masterpiece Experiments, Level 1 Experiments, Level 2 Experiments, Level 3 Experiments, and Publications.

3. Now, take out any cards that are only used when you have more players. For example, in a game with 2 players, remove all the “3+” and “4+” cards. In a 3-player game, remove all “4+” cards.

4. After that, shuffle each deck by itself. Place all the decks face down near the game board.

Here’s what you need to do:

1. Put the Level 1 Experiment deck on the space on the board for the current Experiment deck. Make sure each of the experiment spaces has one Experiment card facing up.

2. Put the Publications deck on the special space on the board.

3. Split all the Artifact tiles into stacks based on their level: Starting, Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3.

4. Shuffle each stack separately. Keep all the stacks face down near the board.

5. Put the Level 1 Artifact stack on the space on the board for the current Artifact stack. Make sure each of the six spaces in the Artifact market has one face-up Artifact.

6. Place one Dominant Essence token facing up on each of the top spaces of the Mastery tracks. This step is optional. You can skip it and just use the setup that’s already printed on the game board.

In the game, first I shuffle all the Bonus Tokens and then put them in the Bonus Spaces on each Mastery track. I make sure each space has one token facing up, and any leftovers go back in the game box. Next, I put the Essence tokens, Ethereal die tokens, Chameleon tokens, material cubes, and Reaction markers in their designated spots on the main game board.

Dice Setup

Hey there! Let’s get started by setting up the dice for our game. Depending on how many players we have, we need to remove certain dice from the game. Don’t worry, I’ll explain it all:

  • If there are 4 players, we don’t need to remove any dice.
  • If there are 3 players, we just need to remove 1 black die.
  • If there are 2 players, we’ll remove 1 red die and 1 black die.

Now that we’ve taken care of that, let’s place all the remaining dice right next to the main game board. They’ll be ready for us when we need them.

Rolling Dice And Filling Bowls

Okay, now it’s time to roll the dice and fill in the Alchemical Bowls on our game board. Here’s how we do it:

Step 1: Roll all the dice. It’s better if we roll them off the game board. Once we’ve rolled them, we’ll place each dice in the Alchemical Bowl that matches its symbol.

When it comes to dice, it’s important to consider how many are in each bowl. If a bowl has more than 5 dice, I’ll take all of them and roll them again, putting them in different bowls. If there are multiple bowls with more than 5 dice, I’ll start with the first one in a specific order.

I’ll keep doing this process until there are no bowls left with more than 5 dice. It’s a simple but effective way to organize the dice and make sure each bowl has a fair number.

Getting Started as a Player

First things first, let’s prepare to play the game. You and the other players will need to do a few things before we can begin.

First, each of you needs to pick a color. Once you’ve chosen, take all the discs in that color.

Next, we need to determine who goes first. The person who has recently performed an alchemical transmutation (or if nobody has, just someone chosen randomly) will be the starting player. They will place one of their larger discs on the first space of the Current Round Order track, located on the main game board. If you’re playing the Introductory Game Setup, skip this step.

After that, the other players will take turns in clockwise order. Each player will place one of their larger discs on the leftmost empty space of the Current Round Order track. If you’re playing the Introductory Game Setup, skip this step as well.

Next, starting with the last player and going counter-clockwise, each player will choose a Laboratory Board. If you’re playing the Introductory Game Setup, you can skip this step too.

Finally, each player will receive two Reaction tokens and place them face-up to indicate that they are ready to use.

When you play the game, there are some important things to keep in mind. Let me break it down for you.

Firstly, in addition to all the other cool stuff you get, the second player gets an Ethereal Die. That’s pretty neat, right? But it gets even better. If there’s a third player, they get TWO Ethereal Dice. And if we’re lucky enough to have a fourth player, they get TWO Ethereal Dice PLUS an extra material. Pretty sweet deal, if you ask me! But don’t worry, if you’re just playing the Introductory Game Setup, you can skip this step.

Now, let’s talk about the Mastery tracks and the Victory Point track. Each player puts a little disc on the “0” space of all four Mastery tracks. And don’t forget to put one of your big discs on the “0” space of the Victory Point track. Oh, and by the way, you can use that last big disc as a marker for your player color. Pretty handy, huh?

Before we begin, let’s go over the setup for the game Trismegistus: The Ultimate Formula. It’s all explained below, so stay with me!

In the first step, each player places one material cube into the round section on their Laboratory board. Take a look at the following images for reference: How to setup Trismegistus Official Rules UltraFoodMess and How to setup Trismegistus Official Rules UltraFoodMess. Make sure to grab one of each essence type, but don’t take an extra How to setup Trismegistus Official Rules UltraFoodMess.

Next, in the second step, each player takes all 8 Formula tiles that match the Alchemist on their Laboratory Board. Randomly place one of your Formulas, face up, on each of the 8 Formula spaces in your Experiment columns. It’s time to get experimental!

Finally, in the last step, each player receives 2 Starting Experiments, 2 Masterpiece Experiments, 2 Publications, and 2 Starting Artifacts. These should be dealt face down. If you’re using the Introductory Game Setup, you can skip this step.

Hey there! Let’s get started on this exciting journey of alchemy. Here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Choose your starting experiment, masterpiece experiment, publication, and starting artifact. Keep them a secret for now.

Step 2: Place your chosen artifact in one of the 6 artifact slots on your laboratory board. It’s up to you to decide which one.

Step 3: If you’re playing the introductory game setup, you can skip this step. Otherwise, return the experiments and artifacts you didn’t choose back to the game box.

Step 4: Take any unselected publications and shuffle them face down. Place them at the bottom of the publication deck.

And there you have it! You’re all set to embark on the epic quest to uncover the Ultimate Formula, just like Trismegistus himself. Let the alchemical adventure begin!
