Do You Want to Play the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Game?
Have you ever seen the famous TV show called Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? It’s a game where contestants answer questions to win a big cash prize. If you like trivia and want to test your knowledge, then you’ll love playing this game.
So, let’s dive into the rules of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and see how you can become a virtual millionaire!
How to Play
Playing Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is simple. All you have to do is answer a series of multiple-choice questions. For each question, you’ll have four options to choose from. Your task is to select the correct answer.
Remember, the higher you go, the tougher the questions become. So, you’ll need to be sharp and attentive to go all the way to the top prize of one million dollars.
Lifelines
In the game, you’ll have a few lifelines at your disposal. These lifelines can help you when you’re unsure about the correct answer. Here are the lifelines:
- Ask the Audience: If you’re unsure, you can ask the virtual audience for their opinion. They’ll vote on the question, and it will give you a clue about which answer might be correct.
- Phone a Friend: You can also phone a virtual friend who is an expert in general knowledge. They will give you their opinion on the question and hopefully guide you to the right answer.
- 50/50: If you’re torn between two options, you can use the 50/50 lifeline. This lifeline will eliminate two incorrect answers, leaving you with a 50% chance of selecting the correct one.
Use these lifelines wisely, as they can significantly increase your chances of winning the big prize.
Winning the Game
To win the game and become a virtual millionaire, you need to answer all the questions correctly. Each correct answer will bring you closer to the ultimate prize of one million dollars.
However, be careful! If you answer a question incorrectly, you’ll lose everything and walk away with nothing. So, it’s crucial to think carefully before giving your final answer.

Game Objective
The objective of the game is to either be the first player to win a million dollars or to have the most money at the end of the agreed number of rounds. The number of rounds is determined at the start of the game.
Game Setup
Start by separating the question cards into their different values. Shuffle each pack and place them in their designated compartments in the box.
The smallest compartment should hold the $1 million question cards, while the other compartments go in the order shown on the Money Tree.
When you start the game, first, grab the $1 million bill and put it on the central platform. Now it’s time for your money! Take the rest of your cash and separate it into piles of the same amount. You should have two different denominations for each section on the Money Tree.
Now let’s get set up. Each player needs a Card Console and three Lifeline tokens. These tokens include the 50:50, Ask the Audience, and Phone a Friend options. You also get four Ask the Audience / Phone a Friend cards, one for each possible answer choice (A, B, C, and D). You can store your Card Console in one of the six pockets by the money tray.
Game Play
Imagine this: you and your friends gather around a table, ready to dive into the excitement of a game. Welcome to the land of Q&A, where each player takes a turn as the host. As the host, your job is to ask questions for the other players to answer. It’s your time to shine!
So how does it all begin? Well, you, as the host, kick things off by placing the first question card, which is worth $100, in your Card Console. But here’s the twist: the answer to that question is not right in front of you. No, it’s hiding on the other side of the card. So even you, the host, will need to rely on your wits to answer correctly!
Alright, here’s how the game works. I’m the host, and I’ll ask a question from the card. You’ll see four possible answers. Your job is to secretly choose the correct answer by covering up the three wrong choices on your Card Console.
Now, let’s talk about Lifelines. Starting with the player on the left, I’ll ask each of you if you want to use a Lifeline. You can use up to three Lifelines on one question, but remember, you won’t get them back until the next game.
Once you’ve made your final decision, you can’t change your mind. But don’t worry, no one reveals their answer just yet.
Let’s keep the game going! We’ll take turns, going clockwise, until everyone has made their final decision. When it’s time, we’ll all show the host our Consoles at the same time. The host will then reveal the correct answer, which is displayed on the back of the Console. If you got it right, congratulations! You’re moving on to the next level.
But if you chose the wrong answer, don’t worry. You’re out of this round and won’t win any money. But hey, it’s just a game, right? You can always try again and see if you can win $1,000 or even $32,000 next time!
Alright, here’s the deal. The host is going to do something sneaky: they’ll put the $100 card at the end of the $100 section, but then they’ll grab the first card from the next section, which is worth $200, and put it in the Card Console, just like before.
Now, it’s decision time for you. You can either try to answer the $200 question for a chance to win even more money, or you can take $100 from the bank and keep it safe. If you choose to take the money, you’re out for the rest of the round. Simple, right? The game keeps going either way.
If you answer the $200 question correctly, you move on to the next level. But if you get it wrong, sorry, you’re out of the round and don’t win a thing. Tough luck, but that’s the way the game works.
This whole process keeps going, level after level, until there are no more players left in the round or until someone reaches the amount of money they need to win the game. It’s a race to the finish!
When you finish your round, you’ll get your winnings from the bank. So make sure to give it your all and bring home that cash!
- If you get a question wrong and it’s worth between $100 and $1,000, you don’t win any money and you’re out of the round.
- If you get a question wrong and it’s worth between $2,000 and $32,000, you only win $1,000 and you’re out of the round.
- If you get a question wrong and it’s worth between $64,000 and $1 million, you only win $32,000 and you’re out of the round.
Once everyone is out of the round, the person to the left of the host becomes the new host. The new host takes the box with the question cards and money, and makes sure that each player starts the round with three Lifeline tokens and four Ask the Audience/Phone a Friend cards.
So, here’s the deal. When I become the host, I’ll start off by putting a $100 card in my Card Console. Then we take turns being the host, going clockwise, until either we’ve all had a go the agreed number of times or someone wins a million bucks. Sounds good, right?
Lifelines
Now, here’s where things get interesting. After I ask a question, we’ll go around in a circle and I’ll ask each of you if you want to use one of your Lifelines. You can use as many as you want, but remember, once you hand me a Lifeline token, you’re committed.
So, let’s say you’ve heard the question and you’re feeling a bit unsure. That’s where the Lifelines come in. You can hand me a token and choose to use one of your Lifelines. Pretty cool, right?
50:50 Lifeline
One of the handy Lifelines you have is the 50:50. You give me your token and your Card Console, and I’ll use these sliders to cover up two of the wrong answers. Then, without letting anyone else see, I’ll hand the Console back to you. It’s like your own little secret weapon.
Here’s how it works: I have two options to choose from, and I can adjust the sliders based on my intuition. If I’m unsure, I can use another Lifeline or choose to take the money I’ve already won instead.
Get Help from the Audience
When I use the Audience Lifeline, I hand my token to the host. The other players choose their answers (A, B, C, or D) from their cards and pass them to the host, face down.
When it comes to playing “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” it’s important that the host always provides the right answer from their own cards. After that, the host shuffles the cards and hands them face down to the player using the Lifeline. The player then picks an answer from the cards, knowing that at least one of them is correct, and adjusts the sliders accordingly.
If the player still isn’t sure, they have the option to use another Lifeline or they can choose not to answer the question and keep the money they’ve already won. The cards are then given back to the host, who distributes them to each player.
Phone A Friend
When you use the Phone a Friend Lifeline, you give your token to the host. Then, you select another player (or the non-host player in a three-player game) to be your Friend and help you with the answer.
When I’m on the show, the host gives me a special card. On that card, there are some options to help me out. One of those options is called “Ask the Audience” or “Phone a Friend.” I get to choose one of those options and pass the card to the host, face down. The host has the right answer, and they tell me that answer before shuffling the cards and giving them back to me.
Now it’s my turn to make a decision. I have all the answers in front of me, and I know that at least one of them is correct. I can use the sliders to choose my answer. But if I’m still not sure, I can use another lifeline or I can choose to not answer the question and take the money I’ve already won. When I make my decision, I give the cards back to the host, and they return the chosen card to me.
If you’re playing the game and you don’t want to use the Phone a Friend Lifeline, there’s an alternative option. You can give your Lifeline token to the host and call a friend of your choice. You’ll need to ask them the question and give them the answer options.
When you call your friend, you only have 30 seconds to get an answer. If your friend isn’t available or you get a busy signal, you lose the Lifeline and you can’t call anyone else. After that, you have to make your own choice and adjust the sliders accordingly.
If you’re still not sure about the answer, you can use another Lifeline or you can choose not to answer the question and instead keep the money you’ve already won.
Even if you’re out of the current round, you can still be part of the game as an Audience member and you can be chosen as a friend to call.
