What The Film?! Game Rules
Alrighty then! Welcome to the wacky world of the “What The Film?!” game! Let’s dive right in and uncover the rules, shall we?
Rule number one: Pay attention, because this game is all about using your eyes. I’m going to show you a series of pictures from different movies, and your task is to guess the movie title based solely on those images. Sounds easy peasy, right? Well, think again! Some of these photos might be quite tricky, so don’t get too confident just yet.
Now, let’s move on to rule number two: Say goodbye to shouting out answers like a maniac. In this game, we play fair and square. So, when you think you’ve cracked the code, keep your answer to yourself until it’s your turn. Trust me, it makes things more exciting!
Rule number three: Patience is a virtue, my friend. Each round has a time limit, and you’ll have to make your guess before the clock runs out. Don’t worry, though; I’ll give you a heads up when time is running low, so stay sharp and think fast!
Oh, and here’s an extra tip to help you on your quest: Sometimes, the images might be a little sneaky and won’t show the main character or the most obvious scene. So, get creative with your thinking and let your imagination run wild.
Alright, folks! That’s all you need to know about the “What The Film?!” game. Remember, keep your eyes peeled, trust your gut, and most importantly, have fun! Lights, camera, action – let the guessing begin!

Getting Ready
Okay, let’s get this show on the road! I’m going to walk you through how to set up the game and get ready to play.
First, take out all the cards. You should have 100 Actor Cards, 100 Plot Cards, 100 Set Cards, and 100 Industry Cards. Make sure they’re all in good condition and shuffle them up nicely.
Next, grab the award tokens. You’ll need 11 of them. These tokens will be used to keep track of who’s winning the game and who’s really killing it.
And finally, don’t forget about the First Player Token. This token will help you keep track of who starts the game. It’s a special token, so treat it with care.
Now that you’ve got everything ready, it’s time to dive right into the fun part – the game itself. Let’s do this!
So here’s what you need to do. First off, you want to keep your main deck separate from your Industry Deck. That’s important, so make sure to pay attention. Now, let me break it down for you.
When we start the game, every player gets some stuff. You know, just to make things fair and square. Here’s what you get:
- One Award Token. Keep it safe and sound.
- Seven cards from the main deck. These are pretty important, so be sure not to lose them.
- One Industry card. That’s a special card just for you.
So, in total, you end up with eight cards. It may not seem like a lot, but trust me, they hold all the power in this game. So, make sure you don’t forget about them!
When you’re playing the game, remember that the First Player Token goes to the last person who went to the movies.
1. Draw Phase
At the start of each round, you’ll receive seven cards. These cards can be Actor, Plot, Set, or Industry cards. Then, at the beginning of each round, draw one more Industry Card so that you have a total of eight cards.
Now, it’s time to decide who goes first. Starting with the first player and going clockwise, if your Industry Card says “Play Immediately,” then play it right away. If not, you can hold on to your Industry Card and play it at any time during the game.
2. Play & Pitch Phase
Okay, here’s what we’re gonna do. First, grab a Set Card, a Plot Card, and an Actor Card. If you don’t have one of each, no worries! Just dig through the discard pile and grab what’s missing. But if there’s no discard pile, then pluck a card from the main deck to complete your hand and shuffle the rest back in.
Now, let’s get this show on the road. The first player starts the clock, and we’ve got 36 seconds to pitch our movie. Make sure you incorporate all the cards into your brilliant idea. If you can’t fit ’em all in, sorry, but those unused cards get tossed and you won’t earn any points for ’em. So make sure you make ’em count!
Phase 3: Cast Your Vote
Okay, here’s what happens next. When I say “three,” you’ve gotta give your Award Token to the person who thought up the most amazing movie. Just remember, you can’t vote for yourself. If we end up with a tie, both movies win!
4. Scoring & End Phase
Whenever you win a round, you get to keep all the cards you have played. Each card you successfully collect will earn you one point. So, the more cards you win, the more points you’ll score!
On the other hand, if you don’t win the round, you won’t earn any points. Make sure to put all the cards you played into the discard pile. They won’t contribute to your score this time, but there will be more opportunities to win in the future.
Game Over
Once six rounds have passed, the game comes to an end. It’s time to count up the points and determine the winner.
Showdown
I’m going to tell you about a fun game called the Pitch Off. In this game, some players get to vote while others participate in a pitching competition.
Let me explain how it works: if there’s a tie at the end of the game, we have a Pitch Off. Each player in the Pitch Off will receive an Actor Card, Plot Card, and Set Card. To determine who goes first, we use a First Player Token. The Pitch Off continues until we have a winner.
Now, here’s an important note: all Industry Cards can be played on top of each other. This means that someone might have to pitch a romantic, horror, war movie if there are three mean people playing. It’s a challenging but exciting twist!
Alright, let’s get down to business. You’re on track to fulfill your destiny as a movie maker!
