What’s Yours Like? Game Rules
Hey there! I’m here to explain the rules of the super fun game called “What’s Yours Like?” Is everyone ready? Great! Let’s dive in.
So, here’s the deal. In this game, you’ll be given a word, and you’ll have to describe what yours is like. It’s like a guessing game, but with a twist! The goal is to come up with clever, creative, and sometimes tricky clues to describe your word.
Here’s an example to help you understand. Let’s say your word is “sunglasses.” You might describe yours as something you wear on a sunny day to protect your eyes. See how it works? Simple, right?
Now, it’s important to remember that you can’t say the actual word or use any parts of it in your description. That would be too easy! The challenge is to think outside the box and come up with clues that make others guess what your word is without giving it away.
When it’s your turn, you’ll give your clues one by one, and the other players will take turns guessing what your word is. The person who guesses correctly gets a point, and then it’s the next player’s turn to describe their word. The game continues until everyone has had a chance to be the describer.
Oh, and here’s a tip: the more creative and unique your descriptions are, the more fun the game becomes! So don’t be afraid to think outside the box and come up with some wild and wacky clues.
Alright, now that you know the rules, it’s time to put your thinking caps on and get ready to play “What’s Yours Like?” I hope you have a blast!
- There are 496 Guess Words on 248 Word Cards
- 35 Challenge Cards
- 5 Blank Cards
- 2 Clue Boards
- 2 Markers
- Card Concealer Folder
- Instructions
Let’s Play the Game!
Try to figure out the Guess Word on the card using as few clues as possible.
Here’s the Catch!
You need to describe what yours is like with clever, yet honest, answers. Avoid being too specific or the player in the Hot Seat will guess it too easily. For example, if the Guess Word is Hair, you could say things like:
- When I turned 40, my hair vanished.
- My hair is always a mess.
- My hair isn’t real.
- I dedicate a lot of time to my hair.
- My hair is easy to take care of.
- I discover my hair all over the house.
- My hair looks exactly the same as it did 10 years ago.
- Back in high school, my hair was wild.
Note: I want the descriptions to be creative and fun in order to make the game more enjoyable. If the clues are too literal or too vague, the game won’t be fun. For example, a bad clue for the word “Hair” would be:
- My hair is blonde. This is too easy to guess. A better clue would be: My hair is the same color as my mother’s.
- My hair falls out in my brush. This is too easy to guess. A better clue would be: I sometimes lose my hair in the bathroom.
About me
Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I love soft and smooth things, and I really appreciate when something is pretty. For example, my husband recently complimented me on how pretty I looked. These qualities really appeal to me. Now, let’s move on to the setup of our game.
Setup
When getting ready to play the Word Cards game, first decide if you want to play with both sides of the cards or just the orange side. The orange side has words that could relate to almost anyone, while the purple side has words that might not be familiar to kids, like a mother-in-law. If you’re playing with kids, stick to the orange side. If all the players are adults, you can use both the orange and purple sides.
When you play What’s Yours Like?, there are a few things you need to know. First, make sure you have some extra Blank Cards. They’re important because you can write down any Guess Words that we didn’t include. Keep those cards close by!
Gather all the necessary materials: the Card Box, Clue Boards, Markers, and a damp tissue for cleaning the Clue Boards. These items will be essential during the game.
Grab a pencil and paper, and choose someone to keep score. Decide on the number of rounds you want to play. We suggest three rounds, but feel free to adjust based on the number of players.
Now, the player who suggested playing What’s Yours Like? gets to go first as the “Hot Seat” player. They will kick off the game!
How to Play the Game
Hi there, let me explain how to play this fun game! First, the person sitting to the left of me will choose a card from the box. This card has a word on it which we call the Guess Word. They will take a quick look at the word, put the card in a special folder called the Concealer Folder, and then pass it to everyone else, going clockwise.
Now, it’s my turn! I am the player in the “Hot Seat.” I will ask the person next to me, “What’s yours like?” And here’s the tricky part – they have to give me a word or phrase that describes what their word is like. But they have to be clever about it! They need to challenge me, without making it too easy or too hard.
For example, let’s say the Guess Word is “Car.” I would ask my friend Bill, who is sitting to my left, “Bill, what’s yours like?” And Bill could say something like, “Mine is really old” or “Mine seldom leaves town” or even “Mine needs to be washed.” These clues give me some hints, but I still have to figure out the Guess Word.
Hey there! Let me share some tips on how to play this game and give clues that are both fun and challenging. It’s important to avoid being too obvious or too vague with your clues. Got it? Great, let’s dive in!
First things first, each player gets to give one clue when it’s their turn. But wait! Don’t give your clue right away. Wait until the player in the Hot Seat asks, “What’s Yours Like?” This way, everyone gets a fair chance to guess.
The player in the Hot Seat will write the clue on the Clue Board. They can choose to take a guess or ask the next player in line for a clue. Just say, “_____, what’s yours like?” to get their clue. Remember, you only get one guess for each clue, so make it count!
We keep playing until the player in the Hot Seat guesses the word. Exciting, isn’t it? So, let’s get those creative juices flowing and have a blast playing this game!
When it’s my turn to give clues, we keep going until everyone has had a turn. Then we start again with the person next to me. Each time someone asks me, “What’s Yours Like?” I have to come up with a new answer.
It usually takes a couple of clues before someone can guess my word. But if I’m really stuck, my friends can make the clues easier for me.
Once I guess the right word, we count how many clues were given and that’s my score for that round. Then it’s the next person’s turn to be in the Hot Seat. We keep going in a circle until everyone has had a turn.
Challenge Cards
Challenge cards are a great way to push yourself and have fun at the same time. Whenever you feel like you’re in a rut or need a new challenge, these cards provide a burst of inspiration and motivation. They offer a fresh perspective and a different way of approaching things. Plus, they’re easy to use and can be customized to suit your individual needs and interests.
Let me tell you how challenge cards work. First, you gather a set of cards – you can either make your own or find pre-made ones online. Each card contains a unique challenge or task that you can try to accomplish. It could be anything from learning a new skill to trying a new recipe to exploring a new place. The possibilities are endless!
When you’re ready for a challenge, simply pick a card from the deck at random. Read the challenge and think about how you can incorporate it into your life. Maybe it’s something you’ve always wanted to try but never got around to, or maybe it’s something completely out of your comfort zone. Either way, embrace the challenge and see what happens!
Challenge cards are a great way to break free from your routine and discover new interests and talents. They encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone and embrace new experiences. They can also help you develop skills, boost your creativity, and build confidence.
So, why not give challenge cards a try? You never know what you might discover about yourself or the world around you. Challenge yourself today and see where it takes you!
When I pick a Challenge Card, I can challenge one of the other players. If I win the Challenge, I subtract two points from my score. Let me explain how it works:
Imagine I am Player 2, and I am in the Hot Seat. I have a total of 11 points across multiple rounds. If I receive a Challenge Card and decide to challenge Player 4, who has nine points, we both become players in the Hot Seat.
Now, the remaining players look at the next Word Card and give clues to both me and Player 4. We each have a Clue Board to help us.
The exciting part is that the first player to guess the word correctly wins the Challenge and can subtract two points from their total score. For instance, if I win the Challenge, my score would decrease to nine points.
After we finish the Challenge, we’ll pick up where we left off, with Player 2 now in the Hot Seat. If we happen to pick another Challenge Card, we’ll just discard it, as we can’t have two Challenges in a row. We’ll keep picking cards until we get a Word Card.
Now, let’s talk about how the game ends. If, after playing the predetermined number of rounds, you have the lowest point total, you’ll be the winner! In the event of a tie, we’ll use a Challenge to determine the ultimate victor.
Here are some hints and reminders for you:
– It’s important to be creative with your clues so that you don’t give away the Guess Word too easily. For example, if the Guess Word is “Car,” you wouldn’t want to say something like, “Mine is a gas hog” because that would give it away right away.
