Getting Started

Hey there! Ready to dive into the world of coding? Well, you’re in the right place. Today, I want to talk to you about something really important – understanding the setup.

Now, don’t worry if you’re feeling a little overwhelmed. I know it can seem like a lot at first, but trust me, once you get the hang of it, you’ll be coding like a pro.

First things first, let’s talk about the setup. When it comes to coding, setting up your environment is crucial. It’s like laying the foundation for a building. Without a solid foundation, things can get messy real quick.

So, what do I mean by the setup? Well, it’s everything you need to get started with coding. This includes the software you’ll be using, any tools or libraries you might need, and of course, a computer to work on.

Choosing the right software is key. There are so many options out there, it can be overwhelming. But don’t worry, I’ve got your back. One popular choice is a text editor like Visual Studio Code. It’s simple, lightweight, and it has all the features you need to write code.

Next, you’ll want to think about any tools or libraries you’ll need. These can help you write code faster and more efficiently. For example, if you’re working with web development, you’ll definitely want to check out Bootstrap. It’s a great framework that can save you a ton of time.

And finally, make sure you have a computer that can handle the workload. Coding can be a bit demanding, especially if you’re working on big projects. So, make sure your computer is up to the task.

Now, I know it can be a lot to take in, but trust me, once you get your setup just right, you’ll be well on your way to becoming an amazing coder.

So, take a deep breath, and let’s get started!

First things first, let’s gather the Civilization cards. You need to have the same number of cards as there are players in the game. You can find the number of players indicated on the bottom right corner of each card. Each player should pick one card and place it on the stand, with the actions-side facing them.

Next, make sure that each player has a Reference card.

Now, place the empty box in the middle of the table. This box will be known as The Project.

Keep the Event cards within reach of all players.

Put the Hourglass on top of The Project.

Make sure the 1st Player Coin and both Token bags are within reach as well. Keep the tokens inside the bags for now, and remember that players start the game with no tokens.

Alright, let’s talk about how to play the game.

Before we begin, just a quick note: the person who flips the hourglass first will get the 1st Player Coin and start the game. But don’t worry, we’ll get to that after we finish explaining the rules, okay?

Now, let’s get into the gameplay.

It’s time to take action!

When it’s time to Take Action, each of us gets to do something. We go in a circle, starting with the player who has the 1st Player Coin. Here are the actions we can choose from:

How to Take Action

When I play the game, I declare my actions out loud. It’s important to follow these steps:

  • I choose any of the five actions available to me.
  • I have an improved action that is specific to my civilization, and I let everyone know what my bonus is.
  • If one of the bags of tokens is empty, I can Propagandize or invade to steal tokens.
  • At the end of the Take Action phase, all players contribute to the game, unless someone employs a nuke action.

The Contribute Phase

During the Contribute phase, everyone contributes Resources to The Project. It’s important to remember that contribution doesn’t follow a specific order – just shout out how much you want to contribute! You can place your Resources in The Project to increase seat count at the end of the game. Remember, only Resources inside The Project will count towards the final score.

Contribution Rules

Contributing to this project is an exciting opportunity! You and I can work together to create something truly amazing. But before we dive in, let’s go over a few ground rules to make sure everyone is on the same page.

First and foremost, remember that your contributions matter. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just getting started, your unique perspective is valuable. Don’t be afraid to speak up and share your ideas.

When contributing, it’s essential to keep an open mind. This project is a collaborative effort, and we all have different backgrounds and experiences. By embracing diversity and actively listening to others, we can create a more inclusive and comprehensive end result.

Another crucial aspect of contributing is being respectful to one another. We may encounter differing opinions and viewpoints along the way, and that’s okay. Treat others with kindness and professionalism, even if you don’t see eye to eye. Remember, it’s possible to disagree without being disagreeable.

If you’re new to this project, don’t worry! We’re all here to learn and grow. Feel free to ask questions and seek guidance from more experienced contributors. Together, we can create an environment that fosters growth and development.

Lastly, when it comes to contributing, communication is key. Stay engaged with the project and keep the channels of communication open. If you have any ideas, concerns, or suggestions, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re all in this together, and your input matters.

Thank you for considering joining this project. Your contributions are valued, and we’re excited to see what we can accomplish together!

  • Anyone can make contributions at any time.
  • You can contribute as many Resources as you have.
  • Just say the amount of your total contribution out loud!
  • You can increase your contribution whenever you want.
  • No taking away Resources from The Project.
  • Ties in contribution are determined by majority vote.

Guess what? You can win a prize if you contribute the most resources!

Events

Events are a special kind of card that can bring unexpected twists and turns to the game. They have the power to dramatically change the rules and victory conditions, sometimes in ways that can be both exciting and challenging.

When I draw an Event card, I have to deal with its effects right away. It can go one of two ways:

How to play We re Doomed Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Here’s What You Need to Know About Events:

  • Event rules always come first, and they override the rules in the rulebook.
  • When you finish an event, put it at the bottom of the deck to discard it.
  • Some cards will stay face up and in play for the entire game, as instructed.
  • After an event, the first player begins the next Take Action phase.

Remember, you shouldn’t shuffle the event deck between games!

Etiquette for the Game

Always Be Open and Honest

Keep your Resource and Influence tokens visible to everyone. If someone asks, you must show them how much you have.

What Happens if You Get Eliminated?

If you get eliminated, turn your civilization card and give back all your tokens. You can’t participate in voting, contribute, play cards, or take any actions. In other words, you’re out of the game.

No Delay Tactics Allowed

When playing a game, sometimes someone takes too long to make a move, and it can be frustrating for the other players. To encourage the stalling player to decide, the others can count down from 10 out loud. If the stalling player doesn’t make a move before the countdown reaches zero, they are out of the game.

The End of Time

When time runs out, everything stops. No one can take any actions, contribute anything more, or play any more cards. If time runs out during an event, finish that event before moving forward.

Ties

In case of a tie in Resources, you can break it by having someone count down from three. At the end of the count, everyone points at the player they want to win the tie. If the tie still persists, you can hold another vote to decide the winner.

When it’s time to board the rocket, ties in Influence are resolved by looking at who has the most Resources. If there is still a tie in Resources, the tied players can make a final speech before voting to break the tie.

For example: Contributing to the Game

So there I am, right in the middle of the game. I just added one Resource, and I couldn’t help but shout out, “One!” Meanwhile, Shari was on fire and tossed in two of her own, boldly calling it out. Not one to be outdone, I added one more and proudly yelled my new total, “Two!”

Then Ian swooped in and made a grand entrance, throwing four Resources into the mix. And let me tell you, nobody challenged him. That meant he was the undisputed winner of the contribution. As a reward, he snatched up the 1st Player Coin, earned some Influence, and to top it all off, got to draw an event card. Talk about luck!

Without skipping a beat, Ian read the event card, carefully following its directions. And just like that, the next round began with Ian taking the first action. The game was in full swing, and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.

Let me give you an example of how things can get pretty intense. Once, Peter decided to amp up the competition and added three Resources with a triumphant shout of “Three!” But guess what? Astrid wasn’t going to let him steal the show. She threw in three Resources of her own and called it out loud. Now, we had a tie between Peter and Astrid for the top contribution.

So how do you decide who’s the winner in a nail-biting situation like that? Well, someone steps up to the plate and starts a countdown from three. And before you know it, everyone is pointing at either Peter or Astrid to cast their vote. But what if we’re still tied? No worries, we just go another round of voting until we have a clear winner. Time is running out, and we need to make a decision fast because, you know, the world is ending and all.

Now, onto the end of the game.

When the clock ticks down to zero, I’ll tally up all the Resources we’ve poured into The Project. This will tell us how many seats we were able to construct. Once we have that number, it’s time for each player to stake their claim on a seat. The person with the most Influence gets first pick, and we’ll move down the line from there.

If you manage to snag a seat, congratulations! You’ll be joining the lucky group that escapes to victory. But if you miss out, well, tough luck. You’ll be left behind, a dead loser. It’s a harsh reality, but that’s how the game goes.
