Let’s Learn the Rules of the Exciting Unspeakable Words Game!
Hey there! I’m here to introduce you to a game that will blow your mind – Unspeakable Words! In this amusement, we’re gonna delve into a world full of strange words and spelling adventures. Sounds cool, right? Let’s dive in and explore the game’s rules together!
The Objective
The main goal of Unspeakable Words is to score as many points as possible by spelling words. The catch, though, is that you’ll be dealing with some really unusual, almost alien-like words. Trust me, it’s gonna be a wild ride!
The Letter Cards
So, how do we spell these weird words? Well, that’s where the letter cards come in. Each card has a letter on it, along with a point value. The higher the point value, the more challenging the letter is. Collect these cards and use them to build your words. Just remember, every letter has its own value, so be strategic!
Forming Words
Now, I bet you’re wondering how to make words with these letter cards. Well, here’s how it works. You start by choosing a letter card from your hand and placing it in front of you. Then, you can use your imagination to add more letter cards to the word you’re spelling. The key is to spell a word that makes sense, even if it’s a bit peculiar.
The Sanity Track
Uh-oh, there’s a twist! In this game, you have to be careful not to lose your sanity. Each word you spell will cost you a bit of sanity, represented by a sanity token. If you lose all your sanity tokens, you’ll start skipping turns! So, be strategic with your word choices and be mindful of your sanity levels.
Inventing Words
Now, here’s where the game gets really interesting. In Unspeakable Words, you don’t have to rely solely on real words. You can even invent your own! If you can convince your opponents that your invented word has a definition, you can score even more points. Talk about creative thinking!
The Scoring
Speaking of points, let’s talk about how you can score big in this game. Each letter card has a point value, and when you spell a word, you add up the values of the cards used. But remember, the higher the point value of the letter, the more sanity you’ll lose. It’s a delicate balance between scoring big and keeping your sanity intact.
The Winner
And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for – how to win the game! The player with the most points at the end of the game is the ultimate champion. So, strategize, invent words, and aim for high-scoring letters to claim that victorious title!
Final Words
Well, that’s it! Now you know all the rules of Unspeakable Words. I hope you’re as excited as I am to jump into this mind-bending word adventure. Get ready to unleash your creativity, test your spelling skills, and have a blast playing Unspeakable Words!

To start the game, I’ll shuffle the letter cards and hand out seven cards to each player. The rest of the cards will be placed face down in the middle as a draw pile.
Oh, and don’t forget to give each player five Cthulhu pawns!
Now, let’s roll the die! The player with the highest roll gets to go first, and we’ll go clockwise around the table.
All used cards should be placed in a discard pile next to the draw pile, face up.
If, by any chance, the draw pile runs out of cards, no worries! Just shuffle the discard pile to create a brand new one.
Your Objective
Your goal is to be the first to accumulate at least 100 points worth of words without losing your mind!
How to Play
On your turn, make sure to follow these four steps in order:

- To make a word, I show my cards on the table face up. If I don’t want to make a word, I can discard all my cards, draw new ones, and end my turn.
- I score the word by adding up the numbers on the cards. Each card has a value based on the number of angles in the letter on it. For example, a “C” is worth 0 points while an “A” is worth 5 points. I add the score to my current total and write down the word. Nobody else can use that word for the rest of the game.
Let’s talk about sanity checks. In a sanity check, I need to roll a 20-sided die and get a number that’s equal to or higher than my word’s value. If I don’t, I lose one of my Cthulhu pawns. But here’s the catch – if I roll a 20, it’s always a success, no matter the value of my word. Even if I fail the sanity check, I still score points for the word, unless it would bring me to 100 or more points. And if I lose all my Cthulhu pawns, I’m out of the game.
After the sanity check, I need to draw back up to seven cards. If there are no cards left in the draw pile, I shuffle the discard pile to make a new draw pile. The game continues clockwise.
Forming Words
I can form any common English word with three or more letters. We count the singular and plural versions of a word as separate words.
Hey there! I wanted to chat with you about an important rule when playing a word game. It’s called the “No Repeating Words” rule, and it’s pretty straightforward. Let me break it down for you.
When I’m playing this game, I can’t use proper nouns like names of people or places, such as Dave or London. Abbreviations like “blvd” or acronyms like NASA are also off-limits. And, you guessed it, I can’t use contractions like “she’s” or “don’t” either.
Oh, and here’s another catch: I can’t use the same word more than once during the game. Once a word has been used, I need to think of a new one.
So, there you have it! Just remember these rules, and you’ll be a pro at this word game. Can’t wait to play with you!
Game Over
When you make a word worth 100 points or more in this game, you have to pass a Sanity Check to earn those points. If you fail the Sanity Check, you don’t score any points. However, if you pass it, you win the whole game.
Alternatively, you can also win the game if you’re the last player who still has Cthulhu pawns.

Optional Rules
The Unspellable Oath
Hey, if you’re down to your last Cthulhu pawn, I say you can go crazy and make up any word you want. It doesn’t matter if it’s gibberish. Just roll the sanity check to see if you can hold on to that last pawn.
Spell Binding
If you decide to toss your whole hand instead of making a word, the other players can take a look at the discarded letters. They might find some words in there.
Any player can challenge you to make a real word from those letters. You’ll have to roll the dice and score like normal.
If multiple players suggest words, you have to make the word that scores the most points. Then, you can draw a fresh set of letters.
Pyschotherapy
When you discard all your cards, you can roll a dice against the total value of your hand. If you roll higher than that value, you get a Cthulhu pawn back. If not, nothing happens.
No one can have more than 5 Cthulhu pawns during the game.
Last Words
Once you reach 100 points or more, each of the other players gets one more turn to try and beat your score. The player with the highest score at the end wins the game.
If two or more players have the same high score, the player who reached that score first wins. So, tying with the high score isn’t enough – you have to beat it to win.
