Game Objective

The goal of Tumult Royale is to become the most successful ruler of the land. You’ll need to accumulate Points of Prestige, which are earned by constructing buildings, managing resources, and using your influence to gain advantages.

Game Setup

Before we begin, let’s set up the game board. The game board consists of a map depicting the land divided into different regions. Each region has its own specific resources and opportunities.

All players start with a certain amount of gold coins, resources, and influence tokens. The amount may vary depending on the number of players.

Gameplay

During each round, players take turns in clockwise order. On your turn, you have two main actions you can take:

  1. Collect Resources: Choose a region and collect the resources available there. Resources can range from wood and stone to more precious items like gems and gold. These resources will be crucial for constructing buildings and earning Points of Prestige.
  2. Construct Buildings: Spend your resources to construct buildings on the regions of the game board. Each building has its own unique benefits and can provide you with a steady income, new opportunities, or even the ability to manipulate the game in your favor.

Additionally, throughout the game, events may occur that can impact the game board and the actions available to players. Keep an eye out for these events and adapt your strategy accordingly!

Scoring

To determine the winner of Tumult Royale, we use a special scoring system based on Points of Prestige. At the end of the game, each player totals their Points of Prestige, which are earned through various means such as constructing buildings, accumulating resources, and using influence tokens. The player with the highest number of Points of Prestige emerges victorious!

Conclusion

So, are you ready to rule the land in Tumult Royale? Prepare for an exciting journey filled with strategic decision-making, resource management, and intense competition. Remember, each action you take will shape your path to victory. May the best ruler prevail! Good luck!

Imagine this: You’re a royal, and all you want to do is decorate your kingdom with statues of yourself. These glorious statues will impress the common folk and remind them of your absolute power. But here’s the catch – building statues requires resources, and those resources come from taxes on your subjects. If you take too much, the people will revolt and punish you for your greed.

As a selfish royal, you have to find the right balance. Collect enough taxes to build your statues, but leave enough resources for the people so they won’t turn against you. It’s a delicate dance between maintaining your power and not succumbing to the wrath of the masses.

Now, here’s the twist. Being a wise and benevolent ruler might earn you the love of your people, and they might forgive your greed. But will this strategy allow you to build more statues than your fellow royals? That’s the ultimate challenge – maximizing your statue count while keeping the people happy.

Remember, the player who manages to place the most statues at the end of the game will be crowned the victor.

The concept is simple: you’re in charge of a kingdom, and your goal is to expand your influence and increase your wealth. But there’s a catch – so does everyone else! You have to outsmart your opponents, make strategic decisions, and stay one step ahead if you want to come out on top.

The best part is, Tumult Royale is suitable for anyone aged 8 and up. So whether you’re a kid, a teenager, or an adult, you can join in on the fun. Plus, it’s super easy to learn, so you won’t spend hours reading the rulebook before you can start playing.

What sets Tumult Royale apart from other games is the interactive spinner. This nifty tool adds an extra layer of excitement to the game. It determines the actions you can take, and it can totally change the course of the game in an instant. That’s what makes each round so unpredictable and thrilling.

So, if you’re looking for a game that will keep you entertained for hours, look no further than Tumult Royale. It’s perfect for game nights, family gatherings, or just hanging out with friends. • First, I need you to carefully remove all of the parts from the die-cut sheets before we can start playing the game. Make sure to insert the arrow into the hole in the tumult spinner card and then into the anchor piece on the underside of the card.
  • Now, it’s time for each of us to choose a color. You’ll receive 25 statues and a castle board in your chosen color. Place your statues on the die-cut tracks of your castle board.
  • Next, we each get a mercy card. Put it to the left of your castle board, with the side that says “The people show no mercy” facing up.
  • Lastly, you’ll receive supporters of different denominations. The amount of supporters you get will depend on how many players we have: 30 supporters in a 2-player game, 20 supporters in a 3-player game, and 15 supporters in a 4-player game. Place your supporters to the right of your castle board, making sure they’re separate from each other and visible to all players.

The tiles that represent commodities

When I play Tumult Royale, one of the first things I notice are the commodity tiles. These tiles are significant because they are the key to earning points and gaining an advantage over my opponents. Every turn, I have the opportunity to place a tile on the board, strategically positioning it to benefit me most. But here’s the catch: the commodity tiles are double-edged swords. While they have the potential to elevate my game, they can also regenerate a strong response from my opponents.

Understanding the importance of the commodity tiles is essential to my success in the game. They hold the power to sway the game in my favor or to my detriment. When someone places a tile on the board, it’s important to take into account how it will impact the overall meaning of the game. If you’re looking for a way to gain an advantage, then you’ll love the potential that these tiles hold. By following the rules of the game and strategically placing your tiles, you have the opportunity to tip the scales in your favor.

In today’s competitive world, it’s crucial to have an edge over your adversaries. That’s where the commodity tiles come into play. These tiles are more than just mere pieces on a game board; they hold the power to change the course of the game. It is important to understand the significance of these tiles and use them to your advantage. By placing your tiles strategically and interpreting the game board, you can make calculated moves that will leave your opponents perplexed and give you the upper hand in the game.

Choosing the right location to place your tiles is key. You have the opportunity to strategically position them to maximize your score and hinder your opponents’ progress. But remember, every move you make has consequences. Placing a tile in a certain location may benefit you, but it could also provoke a strong response from your opponents. It’s a delicate balance that requires careful consideration and thought.

Good luck and happy playing!

  • Put the rest of the supporters on the right side of the people’s goods. These are the supporters who haven’t decided which side they’re on.
  • In a game with four players, all of the nobility cards are used. But if there are only three players, we remove the fourth-rank card from play. And if there are only two players, we also remove the third-rank card. The highest rank is the king or queen (rank 1), while the lowest rank is the earl or countess (rank 4).

The oldest player gets to shuffle the nobility cards under the table. They then place the stack of cards on the table and take the top card for themselves. Afterwards, each player, going in a clockwise direction, takes a nobility card from the top of the stack. Each player puts their card, with either the masculine or feminine side facing up, between the towers on their castle board. This way, every player starts the game with a nobility rank that was randomly assigned to them.

Note: Hey there! Just wanted to give you a heads up before we dive into the instructions. You might notice that I’ll be using words like “I” and “you” to make things feel more personal. Cool? Awesome! Let’s get started! Assemble the frame based on how many people are playing. If it’s just you and a friend, use the two large frame pieces. If you have three players, add two center pieces. And if you’ve got a full house with four players, use all four center pieces.

    Placing the First Statue

How to play Tumult Royale Official Rules UltraFoodMess

When we look at each region tile, we see that it is made up of 9 fields. These fields can be classified into 5 different types: uninhabited pastures, forests, and mountains, as well as inhabited villages and palaces. Now, the player with the lowest rank, which, in a game with 4 players, is represented by the fourth-rank card, starts the game.

That player, you or someone else, takes the statue labeled “1” from their castle board’s track and puts it on any unoccupied pasture field. After that, it’s the turn of the other players, who place their statues according to their ranks.

Finally, the last statue is placed by the king. This means that every player begins the game with one statue of their chosen color. It’s important to note that the first statue of each player must be placed on a pasture field and nowhere else.

Hint: Here’s a tip for you – try to place your first statue on a pasture field that is close to inhabited fields like villages or palaces. This strategy will allow you to add more statues to those fields in the future.

    How to Play the Game

Playing the game is a series of rounds, with each round having 7 steps:

    1. Know What the People Want
    2. Get Taxes
    3. Deal with Conflicts
    4. Put Up Statues
    5. Reshuffle Ranks
    6. Crown a New King
    7. Receive the People’s Forgiveness

    1. Know What the People Want

It’s good to know what the people desire. But whether you choose to listen is up to you.

In this step, the king spins the tumult spinner. The number where the arrow lands shows the minimum amount of each resource the people need after you collect taxes.

For example, if the arrow lands on “3”, the people demand at least 3 bread, 3 marble, and 3 tools.

Note: If the arrow stops halfway between two areas, choose the smaller number. Robbing commodities: Building statues requires specific commodities. To get the necessary bread, marble, and tools, you can rob (or rather, tax) your opponents. The combinations required for each commodity are shown on the left side of the castle board. Before the tax collection phase starts, it’s important to decide which commodities you want to take and how many of each. The king or queen then asks everyone if they’re ready to play. Once everyone is ready, the king flips the hourglass and declares, “Collect taxes!” As the sand trickles down (usually for about 20 seconds), all players can take as many commodities from the center of the table (people’s commodities) and bring them to their castles. There are some rules to follow during this phase:

When playing this game, there are a few important things to keep in mind. First, always keep one hand hidden under the table. You can use your other hand to look at one commodity tile at a time. You can lift the tile briefly to save time.

After you’ve looked at a tile, you have two options. You can either return it face down to the center of the table, or you can place it face down on your castle board. Once you’ve made your choice, you can continue to look at other tiles one at a time. You can either return them or place them on your castle board.

When the hourglass runs out and someone shouts “Stop,” the game is over. At this point, you can no longer pick up new commodity tiles. If you still have a tile in your hand, you need to either return it or place it on your castle board. After that, all of the commodity tiles are revealed.

      Remember these additional rules:

      – Keep one hand under the table at all times.

      – You can only look at one tile at a time.

      – Return or place the tiles on your castle board.

      – Once the hourglass runs out, no more tiles can be picked up.

      – Return or place any remaining tiles on your castle board.

      – Finally, reveal all of the commodity tiles.

These guidelines will help you navigate the game and have a great time. Enjoy!

Once you put a commodity tile on your castle board, you can’t put it back in the center of the table.

You can only have 1 commodity tile in your hand at a time. You can’t pick up and look at multiple tiles at once.

Only the commodity tiles on your castle board are safe. Your opponents can see and take any commodity tiles outside your board.

Now, let’s see if there are any tumults. Count the number of commodities of each type on the tiles that haven’t been stolen by the players and are still in the center of the table.

So here’s what’s going on: we’ve got a bunch of stuff that the people are waiting for. Now, if there are enough of those things based on what the king said at the start of the round, we’re all good. No problems. But if there aren’t enough, things get dicey.

Now, let’s talk about what happens when there’s a problem. If we don’t have enough of a certain type of thing, the people are not happy. And when the people aren’t happy, we’ve got a tumult on our hands.

      Dealing with the Chaos

If there’s a tumult, we gotta figure things out. Each of us counts up how many of the things we’ve taken and put on our castle board from that particular type. That’s how we navigate this mess.

The Greediest Player: I’m telling you, the greediest player is the one who just can’t get enough of swiping a certain type of goodies. Imagine this: if a bunch of players snatch an equal number of these treasures, it’s the higher-ranking player who takes the cake as the greediest one. Oh, and let me tell you, the more esteemed and high and mighty that player is, the more the people around them shake their heads in disapproval. Being the ruler is far from a piece of cake!

How to play Tumult Royale Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Show Some Mercy: I can take advantage of the greediest player by using my mercy card. If I have the “Show Some Mercy” side of the card facing up, I can subtract 1 from the number of commodities I have robbed for each type of commodity. This means I can lessen the impact of my actions and show some compassion.

However, there are some rules to keep in mind:

      • I can only use the mercy card when the greediest player has been determined.
      • The effects of the mercy card don’t apply in the first round, so none of the players receive mercy at the beginning of the game.

Now, let’s talk about the consequences for the greediest player:

      • The greediest player will lose 3 supporters. These supporters will be returned to the unaffiliated supporters’ supply. It seems that some of my supporters want nothing to do with this kind of behavior.

I’ll rewrite the provided text, while maintaining its essence and structure, with a touch of originality and a distinct voice. Please note that the HTML markup will remain intact.

    • The greediest player keeps only the lowest-value commodity tile affected by a tumult. They place the remaining tiles face up in the center of the table, returning them to the people. However, if the player has only one tile of the affected type, they can still keep it, even if it shows three commodities.

Each commodity type can cause a tumult, allowing for up to three tumults to be resolved in a round.

How to play Tumult Royale Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Example: Before we start collecting taxes, I took a spin on the tumult spinner. The arrow landed on the number “4”. That means the people demand at least 4 bread, 4 marble, and 4 tools.

After we confiscated goods from the citizens, we need to check if a bread tumult occurs first A. Since we only have 2 bread left for the people, a bread tumult does happen. The duchess (Blue) took 5 bread, but the people showed her mercy and only 4 bread were counted as stolen – which is the same number the prince (Yellow) stole.

Even though the duchess took more bread, she is considered the greediest player because the prince has a lower rank and is closer to the people. As a consequence, the duchess loses 3 supporters and has to get rid of the two bread tiles with red arrows.

Next, we’ll find out if a marble tumult occurs B. Luckily, we still have 4 marble for the people, so there’s no need to worry about a marble tumult.

Lastly, we have to check if there’s a tool tumult C. Unfortunately, we only left 3 tools for the people, so a tumult does occur. Both the duchess and the prince took 4 tools each.

However, only 3 of the duchess’ tools are considered stolen because the people were merciful towards her this time as well. Therefore, the prince is the greediest player. He loses 3 supporters and has to discard the tool tile marked with a red arrow.

Tip: When playing your initial game, give yourself and your opponents a chance to practice the tax collection phase. This way, everyone will understand how it works, and there will be fewer surprises when the actual tax collection phase happens.

    4. Set Up Statues

How to play Tumult Royale Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Let’s talk about how to play the game. First, I start as the king. The players take turns placing their statues on the empty fields, based on their ranks. Each field has a different cost, and you need to pay the indicated amount of resources to place your statues there. For example, if I want to put a statue on a pasture field, I need to pay 1 bread and 1 marble. If I want to put 3 statues on a palace field, it will cost me 2 marble and 3 tools.

Now, there are some rules to follow when placing your statues. You can only put them on a field that is horizontally or vertically next to a field where you already have statues. It’s important to note that diagonal placement is not allowed, except for pastures or forests – but you can find more about that on page 5.

So, as we play, we need to think strategically about where to place our statues and how to manage our resources. It’s a balancing act, and every decision counts. Now that you know the basics, it’s your turn. Let’s see who can build the most impressive kingdom!

    • When you want to place a statue, you need to choose an empty field like a pasture, forest, or mountain. If the field is already occupied by a village or palace, you can place more statues – 2 statues on a village field and 3 statues on a palace field.
    • When you place a statue, you should take the leftmost statue from your castle board, which is the one with the lowest number.
    • If you don’t have the required commodities to place a statue, you won’t be able to do so and you will have to pass.

To pay the cost of placing statues: You need to discard commodity tiles that show the required commodities. Here are the rules for discarding:

You can’t split the items shown on a commodity tile to put statues on different fields. For example, if a marble tile shows 3 marbles, you can’t use 1 marble for a statue on a pasture and then use the remaining 2 marbles for statues on a village.

If you’re feeling extra generous, you’ll get some extra support. For each overpaid item on a commodity tile, you’ll receive 1 supporter. So if you discard a tile with 3 marbles and another tile with 2 bread to place a statue on a pasture, you’ll receive 3 supporters (2 for the overpaid marbles and 1 for the overpaid bread).

    • Don’t Use Excess Commodity Tiles for Payment: You must only use the exact number of commodity tiles needed for payment. For instance, you can’t pay 1 marble tile and 2 bread tiles to place 1 statue on a pasture in order to get more supporters. However, you can use multiple commodity tiles of a certain type to cover the cost of placing one or more statues on a field.

How to play Tumult Royale Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Once upon a time, I had a mission – to put a statue on a mountain field. But it wasn’t as simple as just plopping it down. I had to gather the right resources: 1 bread, 1 marble, and 2 tools. These were the price of entry, the toll I had to pay.

Now, there were different ways to pay. If I got rid of the commodity tiles marked “A,” I would get 1 supporter for each extra commodity I had paid – a total of 5 supporters. But if I used the tiles marked “B,” I would only get 2 supporters. The crossed-out tools tile marked “C” didn’t count – I couldn’t use it.

It was a tricky decision, but I went with the tiles marked “B.” That way, I got 2 supporters right away.

But the story didn’t end there. There were more rounds to go. After each player got a chance to place a statue or pass, if there were still players with enough resources, another placement round would begin. And it could keep going like that, round after round, until everyone had placed their statues.

When you have commodity tiles that can’t be used to place a statue, they expire and are returned to the center of the table. It’s important to note that returning commodity tiles does not earn you any supporters.

If you want to place statues on pastures or forests, you have the option to do so. You can place a statue on any unoccupied pasture or forest, even if it’s not directly next to a field where you already have a statue. However, keep in mind that the cost is doubled in these cases. For example, if you want to place a statue on a forest field, you’ll need to pay 2 marble, 2 bread, and 2 tools.

There are some restrictions, though. You are not allowed to place statues on fields that are not adjacent to a village, palace, or mountain. If you overpay when placing statues on nonadjacent pastures or forests, you’ll still receive supporters, just like with regular statue placement.

Here’s a little something that might ease your disappointment: If, during a round, none of your statues find a place (maybe because you pillaged the wrong tiles or just couldn’t locate what you needed), don’t worry! At the end of this phase, you’ll still receive 2 supporters. The only exception to this rule is if you were caught up in a tumult and were declared the most greedy player for a particular commodity this round.

    5. Let’s redistribute the ranks.

Once all the players have positioned their statues, the player with the most supporters becomes (or remains) the king or queen. They then pass on their nobility card to the previous monarch. Next, we determine the duke or duchess in the same way as the king or queen, followed by the prince or princess.

I want to explain how the game works when it comes to determining the ranks of the players. So, here’s how it goes:

Once the voting is done and we know who has the most supporters, that person becomes the king or queen. But what about the other players? Well, the one with the second highest number of supporters becomes the duke or duchess. They have to swap their nobility card with the previous duke or duchess.

Now, let’s talk about the player with the third most supporters. They become the prince or princess. And finally, the one who has the fewest supporters becomes the earl or countess.

But wait, what if there’s a tie? If two or more players have the same number of supporters, we look at their previous rank. The one who had a higher rank before the redistribution gets the higher-ranking nobility card. It’s as simple as that.

Remember, it’s crucial to place your supporter tokens in a way that everyone can see how many supporters you have. Transparency is key!

How to play Tumult Royale Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Example: Let’s figure out who the new king will be. First, we need to see who has the most supporters. Blue has a whopping 25 supporters, so he is currently in the lead. Blue decides to give his duke card to Purple, who has 21 supporters, and in return, Blue receives Purple’s king card.

If Blue and Purple had the same number of supporters, Purple would have remained the king. Now, let’s determine who will be the duke. Yellow is in second place with 23 supporters, so he exchanges his prince card for Purple’s duke card.

Now for the prince. Purple and Gray both have 21 supporters, so they are tied. Purple gets to keep his rank of prince because it is higher than the rank of earl. Additionally, Purple was ranked higher than Gray in the previous round when he was the king and Gray was the earl.

    6. It’s Time to Crown the New King

How to play Tumult Royale Official Rules UltraFoodMess

    • If I’m the king, I need to give back 5 supporters. Being in power can be overwhelming, and some supporters might find it too much.
    • If I’m the new king, I take the statue that’s on my castle board from the leftmost side (the one above the lowest number). Then I place it, starting on the left, on the next empty space in the royal chronicle. Here’s an important rule: Once the first five spots are taken, new kings put 2 statues at once in the spaces after the sixth through tenth rounds.
    • I also get an hourglass and a tumult spinner as part of the deal.

How to play Tumult Royale Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Example: In the second round, I decided to make Blue the ruler. I added one blue statue to the royal chronicle, symbolizing his power.

    7. Gain the Favor of the People

How to play Tumult Royale Official Rules UltraFoodMess

When it comes to the game, there’s a special moment that happens after each round. We need to determine who will receive the people’s mercy. It’s an important decision that can have a big impact on the game’s outcome.

So, let’s go through the process step by step. First, I add up the total number of statues each player has placed so far throughout the entire game. We want to find the player who has placed the fewest statues. That’s the one who gets the people’s mercy.

If there’s a tie for the fewest statues, meaning multiple players have the same amount, they all get the people’s mercy. It’s a way for the people to show compassion to more than one player.

Now, let’s talk about what happens to the rest of the players. If they haven’t placed the fewest statues, they don’t get the people’s mercy. Instead, they turn their mercy cards around to show that the people are not feeling merciful towards them. It’s a tough break, but that’s how the game goes.

However, if all the players have placed the same number of statues, then none of them receive the people’s mercy. They all have to turn their mercy cards around to show that the people are not in a forgiving mood.

Now, here’s a little hint for you. If you want to know how many statues a player has placed, just take a look at the number track on their castle board. It’s a quick and easy way to keep track of everyone’s progress.

Getting Ready for the Next Round

Let’s get started by placing all the commodity tiles face down in the middle of the table, including the three tiles that each player had set aside before the tax collection phase began. Make sure to mix them up by sliding them around on the table.

Once that’s done, each player will once again remove three tiles and set them aside for the next round. Then we can move on to phase 1 of the next round, which involves using the tumult spinner to gauge the people’s sentiment.

The Royal Chronicle: What Makes It Special?

Discovering New Region Tiles on the Third and Fifth Spaces

If the king or queen puts one of their statues in the third space of the royal chronicle, they reveal either one face-down region tile (in a game with two or three players) or two face-down region tiles (in a game with four players) of their choice. If the king or queen puts one of their statues in the fifth space of the royal chronicle, they reveal the remaining face-down region tiles.

Remember: The king or queen cannot look at the region tiles before flipping them over. They must always flip them toward themselves.

In the next rounds, players can place statues on the fields of the newly revealed region tiles.

How to play Tumult Royale Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Here’s what happened: In the third round, Yellow became the king. They put one yellow statue in the royal chronicle and showed a region tile, since there are three players in this game.

The Double Spaces: Placing Two Statues and Determining the Game’s End

From rounds six to ten, the new kings put two statues on the double spaces. Each time this happens, we check if the game is ending.

    Ending the Game

After placing two statues on the double spaces, the game might be over.

Here’s how you can check if this is happening: subtract the number of statues that the player(s) who are behind the most have placed from the number of statues that the player(s) in the lead have placed.

If the difference is bigger than the number below the last statues placed in the royal chronicle, then the game is over and the player who placed the most statues is the winner.

If there’s a tie, the player with the higher rank wins.

If the difference is smaller than or equal to the number below the last statues placed in the royal chronicle, then the game continues on to the next round.

For example: In the game, Blue becomes the king in the seventh round and puts 2 blue statues. Purple has a total of 15 statues, Yellow has 19, and Blue has 21.

The difference between the number of statues placed by Blue and Purple is 6, which is higher than 5. So, the game ends right away and Blue is declared the winner.

But, if 2 statues are placed in the tenth round (above the “0”), the game is definitely over. The player with the most statues wins, and if there’s a tie, the higher-ranking player wins.

If a player puts down their 25th statue, the game ends immediately, regardless of the round, and that player wins.

    Helpful Tips

    1. Before you start collecting taxes, take some time to decide where you want to put your statues and what resources you’ll need for them.
    2. If you have extra resources, you’ll gain supporters. The more supporters you have, the higher chance you’ll become the king.
    3. When placing statues, remember that you can also place them on pasture or forest fields. It’s more expensive, but it can give you access to valuable village and palace fields.
    4. Don’t forget about the mercy card. If you have it, you’ll have less risk when stealing resources.

The game becomes more likely to end the longer it takes to finish. Each round reduces the number that determines when the game ends. This number is the difference between the statues placed by the leading player(s) and the statues placed by the player(s) who are farthest behind.
