Now, brace yourself and join forces with your fellow scouts on a courageous quest to find the Wendigo, if you ever hope to return home again!
In this game, one player will become the embodiment of the Wendigo’s spirit, cunningly disguising themselves as one of the scouts. Under the cover of darkness, the Wendigo will snatch away an unsuspecting scout, one by one.
During the daylight hours, it’s up to the remaining players to investigate and uncover the true identity of each scout, placing their detective skills to the ultimate test. If they expose the Wendigo before it’s too late, victory shall be theirs. But if the Wendigo remains hidden until the end, it shall claim victory instead!

The Wendigo Challenge:
- For the Wendigo player: Successfully eliminate 5 scouts without getting caught.
- For the scouts: Try to uncover the identity of the Wendigo in 5 attempts or less.
Get Ready
When you’re getting started, try the Pup Scout version.
Put the 32 Scout tiles on the table in random spots. Make sure the side with just one scout (without a number) is facing up. And be careful not to let any tiles overlap or cover each other even a little bit.
Let’s play a game and decide who will be the Wendigo. I’ll give one player the sand timer and a stack of Wendigo tiles. This player will sit facing everyone else.
So here’s the deal: I’m the Wendigo player, and I’ve got a special mission. I secretly draw a Wendigo tile and try to find the Scout tile that’s an identical match. But I can’t let the other players know what I’m up to, so everyone else needs to turn around and close their eyes. No peeking!
Once I find the matching Scout tile, I take it and slyly replace it with the Wendigo tile. The real trick is making sure I’m putting the right tile back in place. I double-check the numbers on the backs of the tiles to make sure they match. If I took out Scout tile 13, I’ll sneakily slip in Wendigo tile 13.
Now, here’s the twist: all the other Wendigo tiles go back in the box. This game is all about keeping everyone clueless about which tile is the hidden Wendigo tile. I’ve got it hidden, but nobody knows which one it is!
Once I finish my preparations, I’ll ask you, the Scout players, to look the other way while I start the sand timer. You’ll have 45 seconds to carefully observe the positions of the Scout tiles on the table.
Keep an eye out for the tiny changes: the hat, hairstyle, height, scarf, and expression of each scout. This is where the “real” game begins!
Playing the Game
The game is divided into Night Phases and Day Phases.
Night Phase
During the Night Phase, all scout players must turn around, making sure they can’t see what the Wendigo player is up to.
The Wendigo player selects one Scout tile and places it face-down in front of themselves, with the number side facing up. Then, they move the Wendigo tile to the space left vacant by the removed tile.
Important: The Wendigo player is not allowed to move any other tiles on the table!
Once the game begins, I let the scout players know that it is time to open their eyes and face the table. This is what we call the “Day Phase”.
Understanding the Day Phase
When I play as the Wendigo, I start by flipping over the sand timer.
Then, as the scout players, you have 45 seconds to carefully look at the tiles and talk to each other about which one you think the Wendigo is hiding under.
It’s important to make a decision before the sand timer runs out. Once you agree on a tile, one of you can turn it over.
If you reveal the Wendigo tile, congratulations, you win the game! But if it turns out to be a different tile, you have to put it back on the table with the face-up side showing.
If you have any time left, you can use it to study the other face-up tiles. Then, when time is up, you turn around and a new Night Phase starts.
Remember: Even if there are multiple scout players, you only get to turn over one tile during each Day Phase.
End of the Game

- Every time the scout players guess wrong, the Wendigo player will give a clue. It goes like this: “The Wendigo doesn’t have or isn’t…”. For example, imagine the clue is “The Wendigo doesn’t have a yellow scarf.” That should help, right?
