Tapestry Game Rules

I want to talk to you about the wonderful world of tapestry and the rules that govern this unique game. Tapestry is a game where you get to build your own civilization, weaving together a rich tapestry of history and progress. It’s a game that will challenge your strategic thinking and creativity.

Let’s dive right into the rules. The first thing you need to know is that each player starts with a civilization board. This board represents the foundation of your civilization and has various tracks and spaces where you will track your progress. Your goal is to elevate your civilization and score as many victory points as possible.

One key aspect of the game is the advancement track. This track represents the technological advancements and discoveries of your civilization. As you progress along the track, you will unlock new abilities and bonuses that will give you an edge over your opponents. It’s important to carefully consider which advancements to pursue, as each decision has consequences.

Another essential part of the game is the income mat. This mat determines your resources and income. You will receive resources based on the territories you control and the advancements you have unlocked. These resources can be used to build new buildings, explore the world, and conquer territories.

Speaking of territories, the game board is divided into different regions, each with its own unique benefits and challenges. When you conquer a territory, you place one of your buildings on it, adding it to your civilization’s expanding domain. But be careful, as other players can also try to take control of the same territory, leading to fierce competition.

Throughout the game, you will also have the opportunity to interact with other civilizations. You can form alliances, trade resources, and even go to war. These interactions add depth and complexity to the game, making each playthrough unique and exciting.

As you progress through the game, you will also have the chance to complete achievements and objectives. These achievements will provide you with additional victory points, further increasing your chances of winning the game. Keep an eye out for these opportunities and plan your strategy accordingly.

In conclusion, Tapestry is a game that requires strategic thinking, careful planning, and a bit of luck. As you journey through the tapestry of history, you will face challenges and make tough decisions. But remember, it’s not just about winning. It’s about creating your own unique civilization and enjoying the experience along the way. Are you ready to embark on this exciting journey? Let’s step into the world of tapestry and let your civilization thrive!

Setting Up the Game

Global Setup

1 Board: Place the game board on the table. Use the larger board for 4-5 players and the smaller one for 1-3 players.

There are different types of cards and tiles used in this game:

1. Building cards (x33): The building cards are shuffled and placed in a deck next to the game board. Then, three cards are revealed.

2. Tapestry cards (x50): The tapestry cards are shuffled and placed in a deck next to the game board.

3. Territory tiles (x48) and Space tiles (x15): The territory tiles and space tiles are shuffled separately and placed in face-down stacks next to the game board.

4. Landmarks (x18): The landmark miniatures are placed on the corresponding slots on the landmark board. Any extra landmarks are placed near the building card deck.

5. Dice (one 12-sided & two 6-sided): The science die (green) is placed near the science track, and the conquer dice (red and black) are placed near the military track.

Setting Up Your Player

First things first, let’s talk about how you’ll get ready to play the game. Here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Grab a Capital City Mat

Choose one of the six random capital city mats and sit close to it. Each mat has a number on it that corresponds to a territory on the map. Take two outpost tokens (those hexagonal tokens in your player color) and place them on the territory that matches the number of your capital city. Now, keep your other eight outpost tokens aside for now.

Side note: In a game with one to three players, some capital city mats are paired up based on the numbers on the board. You’ll get a random pair, but you can only keep one. Choose the one you want to use and discard the other.

Step 2: Get an Income Mat

Now it’s time to set up your income mat. Take one of the five income mats and put it in front of you. Each mat has different resource tracks that you’ll need to fill in.

Start by “seeding” each resource track with the corresponding building. Place five brown farms, five grey houses, five yellow markets, and five red armories on the appropriate tracks. Make sure you expose the first space on the left side of each row.

Next, place a token on the “0” space for each resource at the bottom of your mat. This will help you keep track of the resources you have.

And that’s it! You’re all set up and ready to dive into the game. Happy playing!

When I first started The Game, I was given 3 Civilization mats. It was like opening a surprise gift because I had no idea what I would get! I got to choose one to keep and had to discard the other. It was tough to decide, but I made my choice and shuffled the unused mat back into the deck along with the discarded one.

I also received 4 Player tokens. These tokens were special because they represented me on the advancement track. I placed one token on each of the 4 starting spaces and another one on 0 VP. I had some extras left over, so I kept them to the side, just in case.

Now, it was time to begin. We randomly chose the first player and started the game. Each player’s first turn was an income turn, where we collected our resources to start the game strong. It was a great way to kick off the adventure!

Now Let’s Play!

When it was my turn, I had a choice to make. I could either collect income to boost my resources or advance my player token on one of the four tracks along the board. Advancing came with a cost, but the benefits were worth it. I had to decide wisely and consider my strategy.

Once I made my choice, the game continued clockwise, with each player taking their turn. It was exciting to see how the game unfolded and to witness the different strategies each player employed.

Income

When I collect income, it’s like starting a whole new chapter for my civilization. Each income turn brings me closer to progress, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Here are the steps I follow during an income turn (check your income mat for specific instructions for turns 1-5):

  1. How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMessFirst, I get to activate any special abilities my civilization may have. This is a chance for me to make the most of my unique strengths and strategies!
  2. How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMessNext, I need to play a tapestry card onto the leftmost empty space on my income mat. This card represents the progress I’m making in this era. If I have a tapestry card in hand, I simply play it. But if I don’t, I can take the top card from the tapestry deck and place it face down on my income mat. I may be amazed by what surprises this card brings!

Hey there! Just a heads up, this part is really important: if you’re the trendsetter in your neighborhood and you kick off a new era, you’ll score some neat resources. Check out what you’ll get below that newly covered space.

If the tapestry card has a special ability that triggers when it’s played, go ahead and use it now. And if it’s got an ability that lasts for this era, that ability stays active until your next income turn starts. Now, here’s a cool trick: if you’re the first one in your neighborhood to get a second income turn, before you play a tapestry card on top of this icon, you’ll score one resource of any type.

You can choose to upgrade 1 tech card (if you have one) and earn victory points. The number of points you earn is equal to the total value of all the visible victory point symbols on your income mat tracks.

  • How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

For each tech card placed next to your capital city mat, you gain 1 victory point.

  • How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

If you have completed any rows or columns in your capital city, you earn 1 victory point for each one.

  • How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

You gain victory points equal to the number shown on the card.

  • How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

For each territory under your control on the game map, you earn 1 victory point.

  • How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMessI gain income from all the symbols I have exposed on my resource tracks, including resources, territory tiles, and tapestry cards. Just remember, I can have a maximum of 8 of each resource – coins, workers, food, and culture. How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

    Advancing

Most of my turns in the game will be spent advancing on an advancement track. Here’s what I need to do:

    1. I pay the cost – it’s the resources mentioned under the tier of the track I want to advance into.
    2. I move my player token 1 space forward on the track and gain the benefit.
    3. If I have the option, I can pay to gain the bonus once. For example, if I see this symbol How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess, it means I can pay any 1 resource to get 1 tapestry card.

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Just pay one resource and move your player token forward. You’ll get a special perk, and if you want, you can pay another resource to get a tapestry card.

Each advancement track is divided into different levels. If you’re the first player to reach a new level (II-IV) through any means, you’ll get a special landmark. Put it in your capital city (you can find more about buildings and the capital city in the Buildings & Capital City section).

You can find the main benefits for each track on page 3, and for more details, you can check out the reference guide. It’s a good idea to explain the main benefits to new players before starting the game, but save the specific benefits for when they actually reach them.

So, here’s what you do. Pick one territory tile from your stash and put it on a hex that hasn’t been explored yet. Make sure the hex is next to a territory you already have, and you can turn the tile in any direction you want.

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Hey there! Let me walk you through an important aspect of the game. Ready?

So, in the game, you earn victory points (VP). And guess what? Exploring territories can help you score some precious VPs. Cool, right?

Here’s how it works. Each side of the explored territory that has at least one aligned terrain, like water, mountains, or desert, can get you 1 VP. And guess what? You can score up to 6 VP this way. Pretty awesome, huh?

Oh, one thing to note – those “rivers” you see between the land terrain and the tile edge, well, they’re just there for looks. They don’t count for VP. Focus on the aligned terrains!

Let me show you an example. Imagine a newly explored territory. Check it out, two sides of that territory have at least one aligning terrain. So, you earn 2 VP for that. Sweet!

That’s all there is to it, my friend. Remember, exploring territories can bring you VPs, so keep an eye out for those aligned terrains. Happy playing!

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Hey there! Let’s talk about how you can gain benefits in the territory. It’s pretty simple, actually!

So, first things first, you can gain benefits from the territory tile. That could be something like 1 culture point, for example. Pretty neat, right?

Another way to gain benefits is through the actions you take on the territory. You can build improvements and wonders, which will give you various bonuses. It’s like getting a little extra boost!

When you settle a city, you’ll also get benefits from the surrounding territory. That’s called the city’s “workable tiles.” These tiles provide resources like food, production, and gold, which can be super helpful for your city’s growth and development.

Lastly, you can gain benefits from strategic resources. These resources, like iron or oil, are essential for certain units and buildings. So, if you have access to these resources, you’ll have a big advantage in the game.

So, there you have it! Gaining benefits in the territory is an important part of the game. Whether it’s from the territory tile, actions, workable tiles, or strategic resources, these benefits can really give you an edge. Have fun exploring and making the most out of your territory!

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Hey there! So, once you reach Tier IV of your exploration track, something pretty incredible happens… you get to leave Earth behind and venture into space! How cool is that?

Now, let me tell you about space tiles. These tiles offer some seriously awesome benefits, even more powerful than the ones you find on the regular territory tiles. When you explore a space tile, all you have to do is plop it down next to your income mat and voila! You instantly gain all the benefits listed on that tile. No need to worry about aligning it with other space tiles – just focus on reaping those rewards.

But here’s the thing to keep in mind: there’s only a limited number of space tiles available. So, it’s totally possible for them to run out. That’s why it’s important to keep exploring and claiming those space tiles while you can.

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Let’s start by rolling the science die, which will give us an icon representing an advancement track:

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

When you play, here’s what happens:

First, roll the die and move your player token. The number you roll determines how far you can move. But remember, you don’t have to move if you don’t want to!

Next, if you’re the first player to reach a new level, you’ll get a landmark as a reward. It’s like a special prize for being the first to advance!

But there’s a catch. If you reach the end of a track, beyond the 12th space, nothing happens. You won’t get any rewards or bonuses.

Finally, there’s something called research. You’ll see these icons on your board. Some have an X on them, while others don’t. If an icon has an X, you won’t get any benefits or bonuses. But if it doesn’t have an X, you’ll get the benefit and you can choose to pay for the bonus.

There are also special benefits that let you move ahead on certain tracks. Keep an eye out for those!

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMessThe Wonders of Technology

Hey there! Can you imagine a world without technology? I can’t! It’s remarkable how much technology has become an integral part of our lives. From the moment we wake up to the time we go to bed, technology surrounds us and makes our daily routines easier.

So, what exactly is technology? It’s a fancy word we use to describe all the amazing inventions and tools that humans have created to solve problems and make life more convenient. Things like smartphones, computers, and even the internet fall under the umbrella of technology.

Technology is a double-edged sword. It can be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities. It allows me to communicate with friends and family across the globe, access information instantly, and even entertain myself with movies and games. I can’t imagine life without these conveniences!

But, on the other hand, technology can also be overwhelming. It’s easy to get lost in the countless distractions it offers. Have you ever found yourself scrolling through social media for hours instead of doing important tasks? I know I have! It’s important to find a balance and use technology wisely.

When it comes to choosing the right technology for yourself, there are a few things to keep in mind. Firstly, consider your needs and priorities. Are you looking for a device that helps you stay connected, like a smartphone? Or maybe you need a powerful computer for work or creative pursuits? Understanding what you’re looking for will guide you in making the right choice.

Another factor to consider is your budget. Technology can be expensive, but there are options available for every price range. Do some research and compare different products to find the best fit for your budget.

Lastly, don’t forget about the importance of staying informed. Technology is constantly evolving and new gadgets are released all the time. By keeping up with the latest news and trends, you can make informed decisions about your tech purchases.

So, my friend, technology is here to stay. It has changed the world in countless ways and continues to shape our lives. Just remember to use it wisely and not let it consume you. With these thoughts in mind, go forth and embrace the wonders of technology!

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

So here’s what you need to do: grab a tech card. You can choose from the cards that are already face-up or take one from the top of the deck. Don’t worry, if you take a card that was face-up, it will be replaced right away. Now, if the deck happens to be empty, just gather up all the cards that have been discarded and shuffle them together to make a fresh deck.

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Hello there! Let’s talk about tech cards in the game. Here’s what you need to do:

First, place the card to the right of your capital city mat in the bottom row. You can have as many tech cards as you like in each row, and there’s no immediate benefit from them.

But don’t worry, they become really useful when you upgrade them. To upgrade, simply choose a tech card from the bottom or middle row and move it up to the next row. Just remember, the cards in the top row can’t be upgraded.

Now you’re ready to take advantage of the benefits that upgraded tech cards bring!

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

So you want to know why upgrading a tech card to the middle row is important? Well, let me break it down for you. When you upgrade a tech card, you get a special benefit that is displayed in a circle. This benefit can vary depending on the card, but it’s usually something good like advancing on the exploration track or getting a bonus of some sort.

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

When you want to upgrade a tech card to the top row, you’ll see the benefit displayed in the square. To move a card to the top row, you or one of your neighbors has to fulfill the requirement mentioned on the card (for example, being in or beyond Tier II on the exploration track).

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMessMilitary

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

So, here’s what you need to do. First, you gotta put one of your outposts in a territory that doesn’t have more than one token and is right next to a territory you already rule. Control means your outpost is the only one standing there, you know? Can’t take over territories you already control, though.

Okay, step two. Grab those two conquer dice and give ’em a roll. Now, one of ’em is red. It’s got this cool icon (How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess) that means you’ll get one victory point for each territory you control. The other die is black, and it’s got a different icon (How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess). That one means you get the benefit on the territory tile, if there is one. Oh, and check out this other icon too (How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess).

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

If you take over a territory from your opponent, you’ll “topple” their outpost token by tipping it over on its side. By doing this, there will now be two tokens on the territory, making it impossible for it to be conquered again. However, be careful when trying to conquer a territory controlled by your opponent, as they might have trap cards! These trap cards look like tapestry cards, but if your opponent discards one from their hand, they will keep control of the territory. Don’t worry though, you’ll still gain a benefit from the conquer dice.

    Buildings & Capital Cities

You can permanently place buildings in your capital city to help you in two ways: (1) complete districts for instant resources and (2) complete rows and columns to score victory points. Feel free to place buildings on any open plot in your capital city!

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Some areas of land are off-limits, which means you can’t construct any buildings there. However, these areas still play a role in completing neighborhoods, rows, and columns.

Buildings are divided into two categories:

Income Buildings How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

    Landmark Buildings:

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Landmarks are like special buildings that represent a major achievement for a civilization. They show that a civilization has reached a new level of progress or has made a significant discovery, like inventing new technologies. Each landmark is a unique building that you place in your capital city, aligning it with the city grid. There is only one of each landmark, so even if you find a way to get the same landmark again, you can’t.

Here are some other important things to know about buildings:

    • When you finish a district by filling in all the plots in one of the nine 3×3 areas, you immediately gain a resource.
    • When you calculate your score for your capital city, you earn 1 victory point for every completed row and column.
    • You have the freedom to construct and position buildings outside of your city grid. This is important because as your city grows, it may become more congested and you may not always find enough space within the grid for all the buildings you want to construct.

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

This city is special. It has three complete rows and columns, and every time you score it, you’ll get three victory points.

Other Things to Keep in Mind

Civilizations: You can get additional civilizations in different ways, like reaching the end of the military track or getting tech cards. When you do, just add them to the left side of your civilization mat. If you ever run out of player tokens, you can use spare cubes instead.

Overlapping Turns: If the previous player’s decisions don’t affect your turn, you can go ahead and take your turn without waiting. You’ll find this especially important during your income turn, after you’ve played your tapestry card.

Optional Vs Mandatory Rewards: In this game, all the bonuses you can get are optional. However, benefits and landmarks are mandatory rewards that you must claim.

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Neighbors: When you play the game, it’s important to consider your neighbors. These are the players sitting directly next to you, on your left and right. Achievements: There are 3 achievements on the board. When you earn an achievement for the first time, place your player token on the highest available VP space for that achievement. It’s important to note that you can’t lose achievements or earn the same achievement twice. Victory Point Track: The Victory Point (VP) track keeps track of your points. If you earn more than 100 VP, place your VP token on the 100 space, and put a second player token at 0. If you earn more than 200 VP, move the token over (and repeat for 300 and 400 VP). Variable length: Each player will take the same number of income turns (5), but the number of advance turns will vary.

The Rise of AI: Did you know that there’s a fascinating new technology called AI Singularity? It’s a game-changer that allows you to have multiple player tokens on the same track. How cool is that? And the best part is, both tokens can move forward! But here’s the catch – when you’re comparing your position on the track with other players, just focus on your most advanced token. That’s the one that really counts. So, take a moment to absorb this mind-boggling concept. With AI Singularity, you have the power to unleash your strategic genius and make some seriously smart moves. It’s like having an extra boost to propel you towards victory. So, if you’re ready to take your game to the next level, I suggest you dive into the thrilling world of AI Singularity. Trust me, once you experience the power of this game-changing technology, you’ll never want to go back.

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

You can’t achieve the same thing twice. When it comes to the middle achievement, you can conquer or trap 2 outposts from the same or different opponents. Now, for the rightmost achievement, if your opponent sets a trap card while you’re trying to conquer the middle island, you won’t earn this achievement.

    The Game’s Conclusion

How to play Tapestry Official Rules UltraFoodMess

The game ends at different times for each player. It’s your turn to finish when you complete your final (5th) income round. You’ll get benefits from your civilization, an upgrade, and victory points as indicated on your income mat. However, you won’t be able to play a tapestry card or earn more income.

If other players still have turns left after your game ends, you can still gain victory points from your passive civilization abilities, but you won’t receive anything else.

Once all players have completed their final income rounds, the player with the most victory points is declared the winner.

If there’s a tie, the player with the most total resources remaining is the winner. If there’s no clear winner, the victory is shared. A fantastic final score would be 300 VP. So aim high!
