Hi there! I am so excited to introduce you to the amazing world of Stuffed Fables. In this game, I will guide you through the rules and help you embark on a wonderful adventure with your favorite stuffed toys. Let’s dive right in!

Setting Up Your Game

Before we start playing, we need to get everything set up. First, lay out the game board in the center of your play area. It’s a beautiful, colorful world filled with all sorts of exciting locations and challenges.

Now, grab your stuffed toys and place them in front of you. These adorable characters will come to life as we play, and they will be our brave heroes. Make sure to have their corresponding character cards and standees ready too.

Next, take a moment to gather all the dice, tokens, and cards we’ll need for the game. Assemble the different decks, and make sure to shuffle them thoroughly. We’re almost ready to start!

Playing the Game

Stuffed Fables is a cooperative game, which means we’ll all be working together to overcome challenges and complete our missions. Each player takes on the role of a brave stuffie, and we’ll take turns guiding our characters through the story.

On your turn, you’ll have a chance to take several actions. You can move your stuffed toy around the board, search for items, and interact with different objects and characters. You may also need to roll dice to determine the outcome of certain actions. Your choices and the dice rolls will shape the story and lead us to different paths.

Be ready to face all sorts of obstacles and enemies along the way. We’ll have to work together, using our unique abilities and clever strategies, to overcome these challenges. Remember, the outcome of the game depends on all of us working together as a team.

Winning the Game

The ultimate goal of Stuffed Fables is to successfully complete our missions and advance through the story. We’ll encounter different chapters and scenarios, each with its own challenges and surprises. Our choices and actions will have consequences, and the story will unfold based on how we play.

As we progress and complete missions, we’ll earn story points, which will allow us to unlock new adventures and customize our characters. Each chapter will present new opportunities and dangers, so we have to stay vigilant and adapt to the ever-changing story.

Final Thoughts

With the imaginative world of Stuffed Fables, we can embark on an incredible adventure filled with excitement and wonder. So gather your friends, get ready to roll the dice, and let’s dive into the magical realm of this extraordinary game. Let’s Get Set Up

So you want to know how to set up a game of Stuffed Fables? Let me break it down for you:

First things first, each player needs to choose a stuffy character card and grab its matching figure. Oh, and don’t forget to place 5 stuffing tokens on that character card, with the light side facing up.

Quick tip: If you’re playing with just 2 players, you can choose to control 2 stuffies each. It’s like having double the fun! And when it comes to following the rules, just treat yourself as 2 separate players with 2 separate turns.

Next, it’s time to prepare the dice. Grab all those colorful attribute dice – purple, blue, green, red, and yellow – and toss them into the dice bag. Then, add a number of stuffing dice (they’re white) equal to the number of stuffies in play, plus 1. Oh, and don’t forget to add the same number of threat dice (the black ones) too.

Now, let’s get those cards in order. Shuffle the item cards and stack them up to create an item deck. And don’t leave the Lost cards out – shuffle those too and form a Lost deck.

When you’re ready to play, here’s what you need to set up:

1. Create a pile of boss minion cards, face-up. Make sure to shuffle the remaining minion cards and form a minion deck. Remember, for your first game, you won’t have any boss minion cards.

2. To create the sleep deck, follow these steps:

  • Take the Waking sleep card and shuffle it with 2 random sleep cards. Place these cards face-down next to the play area.
  • Shuffle the rest of the sleep cards and put them face-down on top of the deck you just made.

3. Find a convenient spot to keep your status cards, buttons, stuffing tokens, and heart tokens.

4. Put the Storybook in the center of the play area, with the sideboard to its right.

5. Now, it’s time to choose who will be the first bookkeeper. Give that player the bookmark token. They will take the first turn, and play will continue clockwise.

Hey there! Are you ready for an exciting adventure? Let’s dive into the magical world of Storybook! To begin, choose a story that captures your imagination. If you’re new to the game, why not start with the captivating story called “The Big Girl Bed”? Open the book to the start page of your chosen story and get ready to be transported to another world!

Getting Started

Once you’ve picked a story, it’s time to set up your game. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with some easy instructions. First, let’s talk about reading a map and how to create an encounter.

Decoding a Map

When you’re playing this game, there are a few important things to keep in mind. Let me break them down for you:

1. Search Difficulty: This is the number you need to successfully search the map.

2. Colored Lines: To move across a solid colored line, you have to use a die that matches the color of the line. It’s like having the right key to unlock a door.

3. The Lost: There’s a special section dedicated to the Lost. Make sure to check it out for more details.

4. Points of Interest: Another important section is the one about points of interest. It will give you all the details you need.

5. Stuffy Start Space: This is where your stuffy figures come into play. They can start here or adjacent to this space, in any direction – up, down, sideways, diagonally.

6. Minion Start Space: When you come across minions, their figures come into play here or adjacent to this space. Be ready!

7. Vendors: Vendors are an important part of the game. The vendors section will tell you all about them, so don’t forget to check it out.

8. Bracketed Space: These spaces are used for counting range. You can’t move your figure onto one of these spaces unless the Storybook tells you to.

The Lost

When you see a space with the icon below, it means you’ll place a token there later. These spaces with tokens give you a chance to interact with the Lost – toys who live in the Fall. If a stuffy starts, ends, or moves over a space with a token, their movement stops, their turn pauses, and the token is discarded.

Now let’s talk about the Lost cards. The player to the left of the active player takes a card and reads it out loud. These cards usually give you choices to help the needy denizens. Sometimes, the stuffies get rewarded for their help, but other times they only receive a simple thank you.

Giving is an interesting thing. Stuffies have the choice to walk away from it without any consequences, unless there’s a card that says otherwise. So, keep that in mind and don’t read the result until the choice is made. Once the card is resolved, unless stated otherwise, we can continue playing.

Let’s talk about points of interest. These are special places that we can explore. When a stuffy starts, ends, or moves over one of these spots, we need to stop and take a look. We pause the stuffy’s turn and read the corresponding entry in the Storybook.

If you’re ready to resume the game, go ahead and continue playing. Most symbols can only be explored once. Symbols that have a coin icon can be explored multiple times.

Vendors

Vendor symbols present an opportunity to trade with a local collector. When a stuffy enters a space with a vendor symbol for the first time, their movement stops, their turn pauses, and 4 cards from the item deck are revealed.

When you’re on or next to this space, you can trade to get any of the 4 cards by spending one button or getting rid of one item card for each card you want. Keep the leftover cards near the map so you can trade them later when the story moves to a different page. Just make sure to shuffle them back into the item deck.

Leaving a Page

When you leave a page, take away any remaining minions and tokens from that page and put all the action figures back on their cards. If the Storybook tells you to leave a page, finish your turn first, unless it says otherwise.

Generating an Encounter

Minions, which are the enemies in the game, come into play when the Storybook tells you to start an encounter. There are 2 ways encounters can be generated as instructed by the Storybook:

Random Encounter

To create an unexpected meeting, mix up the pile of minions. Hand out cards equal to the number of toys currently being used and display them in a row to the side. Put each character’s figure on or next to the marked spots. It’s up to the person in charge to decide where each figure goes.

Special Encounter

Encountering a boss can be a thrilling experience in the game. It’s when you come face-to-face with a powerful enemy that demands your full attention. The boss is no ordinary minion – it’s a force to be reckoned with. But how do you know what kind of boss you’ll be facing? That’s where named encounters come in.

A named encounter is a special encounter that provides you with specific information about the boss and the minions you’ll face. Instead of leaving it up to chance, you’ll have all the details before you even start playing. It’s like having a sneak peek into the future!

When I’m generating a named encounter, I take a deep dive into the minion deck and the boss minion cards. I search for the exact minions that will come to life during this encounter. No surprises, no guesswork. It allows me to plan my strategy and be prepared for whatever comes my way.

Here’s how it works:

I carefully select the minions based on the encounter’s requirements. If there’s a leader minion that can be chosen, it must be included in the encounter. Then I shuffle the minion cards and deal them face-up in a column near the sideboard. This step ensures that everything is fair and transparent.

After that, it’s time to bring these minions to life. I place their figures on or adjacent to any space marked with . The trick is, I get to decide where each figure goes. It’s like being the director of my own adventure! I strategically place the figures in the most advantageous positions and set myself up for success.

So, when you encounter a boss, remember the power of named encounters. They give you an edge in your quest for victory. By knowing exactly what you’re up against, you can plan your moves carefully and make the most of every turn. It’s like having a secret weapon in your back pocket.

Encountering A Boss

So, here’s what you do when you want to bring a boss minion into the game. You put some dark stuffing tokens on the boss’s card – one for each stuffie already in play. But instead of just defeating the boss right away, you take off one dark stuffing token from its card. Keep doing that until the boss has no more dark stuffing left. Once that happens, the boss is finally defeated and taken out of the game.

Your Turn

When it’s my turn to play, I go through a series of steps. Here’s how it works:

  1. 1. Draw Dice:

I start by drawing 5 dice from the bag and putting them in front of me. If there are less than 5 dice in the bag, I take the remaining dice from the bag. Then, I move all the dice in the discard pool back to the bag and finish my draw.

  • 2. Find Stuffing:
  • Next, I search for stuffing. This means I look at the dice I just drew and see if any of them match the requirements for stuffing. If they do, I set them aside to use later.

Hey there! It’s time to have some fun with stuffing! Grab your white dice and let’s get started!

Here’s how it works: You can roll your dice one at a time, or you can roll multiple dice together. The choice is yours! The goal is to get a roll result that is equal to or higher than the number of stuffing your stuffy has remaining.

Whenever you successfully roll a result that meets or exceeds the stuffing requirement, you gain 1 stuffing for your stuffy. But don’t forget to discard that die (or dice) by moving it to the discard pool – no hoarding allowed! Your stuffy can have as much stuffing as it wants, so keep rolling and gaining those precious stuffings!

    3. Place Threat

Put all your black dice on the threat track, starting at the top.

    Step 4: Take Actions

You can use the remaining colored dice in front of you to take actions. To take an action, you need to use a die of the corresponding color. Here’s how to take an action:

    • Roll the die
    • Resolve the effect of the die
    • Discard the die

Like the white stuffing dice, you can roll each die separately or roll multiple dice of the same color (or purple) together as one roll. On your turn, you can take as many actions as you want, as long as you have enough dice of the right color.

Here are the actions you can take with each type of die:

    Any Color Attribute Dice:

    • When I play the game, I can move across dotted lines or solid lines as long as they match the color of the die I’ve rolled.
    • If I want to, I can reserve a die for later use.
    • I have the power to encourage a stuffy if I feel like it.
    • If I want to show off my skills, I can perform a skill test of the matching color.
    • Don’t forget that I can contribute to the group task of the matching color as well.
