What is the Game About?

The game is all about being the first player to achieve one of the following:

• Collect 5 queens or get 50 points in a game with 2-3 players.
• Collect 4 queens or get 40 points in a game with 4-5 players.
• Have the highest score when all the queens are awake.

How to Prepare

Before you start playing for the first time, take some time to go through the deck and get to know the cards. Keep in mind that each queen has a specific point value. Also, remember that there are King, Knight, Dragon, Jester, Sleeping Potion, Wand, and number cards ranging from 1 to 10.

To get started, let’s divide the cards into two groups based on their backs. Take the 12 queen cards with green backs, shuffle them, and place them facedown in the center of the playing area. Arrange them in four rows of three. Next, shuffle the deck with red backs, deal five cards to each player, and put the remaining cards facedown in a draw pile next to the queens.

During the game, you will need to discard cards onto a pile next to the draw pile. Remember to take a look at your cards, but keep them hidden from your opponents.

So, here’s how it works: I’ll start the game as the player to the left of the dealer, and then we’ll take turns going clockwise. It’s a pretty simple game, really!

When it’s your turn, you have a few options. Choose one of these actions and don’t forget to draw a card afterwards:

Use a King card to wake up a Sleeping Queen. To do this, just put your king card face-up in the discard pile. Then, you can choose any queen from the center area and put it face-up in front of you. Everyone gets to see it! This newly awakened queen is now fully “awake”. And guess what? If you happen to pick the lucky Rose Queen, you get to wake up an extra Sleeping Queen! How exciting is that?

Another option is to use a Knight card. This sneaky move allows you to steal one of your opponents’ awakened queens. Just pop that knight card onto the discard pile, and then choose any one of your opponents’ queens. Place it face-up in front of you, and it’s yours now. Watch out, though, your opponents might not be too happy about that!

Remember, the objective of the game is to be the first player to wake up all of the Sleeping Queens and have the most queens in front of you. So, let’s get started! Are you ready for some royal fun?

Dragons: When you’re playing Sleeping Queens, be aware that your opponent can try to stop your knight by playing a Dragon card. If this happens, both the Dragon and the Knight cards are discarded, and each player gets to draw a card from the pile. Don’t worry though, the player who played the Dragon card doesn’t lose a turn. Play then continues with the player to the left of the Knight card player.

Play a Sleeping Potion card: Another useful card in the game is the Sleeping Potion. With this card, you can put one of your opponents’ awakened queens back to sleep. To use it, simply place the Sleeping Potion card on the discard pile. Then, choose one of your opponents’ queens and place it face down in any open space among the other Sleeping Queens.

Remember to think ahead and plan your strategy. Try to remember the point value of the queen you put to sleep, as well as its location. This will come in handy during future turns.

Wands: If someone tries to put you to sleep with a sleeping potion, you can stop them by playing a Wand card from your hand. When this happens, both the Wand and Sleeping Potion cards are discarded, and each player draws a new card. The person who played the Wand card doesn’t lose a turn. The game then continues with the player to the left of the person who played the Sleeping Potion card.

Have some fun with the Jester card and take a risk! Show the Jester card on the discard pile, then flip the top card from the draw pile face-up. If it’s a powerful card like King, Knight, Dragon, Potion, Wand, or the Jester itself, grab it and go again. But if it’s a number card, get ready to count! Starting with you, go around to the left and count off the number of players that matches the number on the card. The lucky person who lands on the count gets to wake up and keep a queen from the center!

Get rid of cards and draw new ones

Here are three options for you:

In return, draw three or more cards from the deck.

Don’t forget to grab enough cards from the draw pile at the end of each turn to fill your hand back to five cards.

We calculate points by adding up the numbers on each awakened queen. The more queens you collect, the higher your chances of winning!

Alternatively, the game can end if there are no more Sleeping Queens left in the center. In that case, the player with the highest number of points wins. So, keep an eye on those points!

Q: What happens if we run out of cards to draw?

A: If you find yourself in that situation, simply reshuffle the discard pile to create a new draw pile. That way, the game can continue!

Q: If I steal the Rose Queen from someone using a knight, can I steal another queen if the Rose Queen is awakened?

A: Nope, the Rose Queen only takes another queen when she wakes up from the center. But if she goes back to sleep and wakes up again, then she can steal another queen.

Q: What if I forget to play a Dragon card right away to stop a Knight or a Wand card to stop a Sleeping Potion? Can I play it later when I remember?

A: Nope, sorry, you missed your chance.
