Password Game Rules
Welcome to the exciting world of the Password Game! Get ready to dive into the challenges and thrills of this addictive game. In this guide, I will walk you through the rules and strategies to help you master this captivating and engaging experience.
Let me start by explaining the objective of the game. The goal is to guess the hidden password correctly. The password is a secret combination of letters, numbers, or symbols. You have a limited number of attempts to crack the code and unlock the password. It’s like trying to open a locked door with the right key. Are you up for the challenge?
To guess the password, you will enter a combination and submit it. The game will then provide you with feedback on your attempt. This feedback will guide you in refining your strategy and getting closer to the correct password. It will tell you how many characters in your combination are correct and in the correct position. You can use this feedback to adjust your approach and increase your chances of success.
Remember, timing is crucial in the Password Game. You must carefully consider your options and make informed decisions. Rushing in without a plan could lead to failure. Take your time, think strategically, and do your best to crack the code.
In addition to timing, another key aspect of the game is trial and error. You may not get the password right on your first attempt, and that’s okay. Each guess brings you closer to the solution, as you learn more about the password. Embrace the process of experimentation and analysis. It’s like exploring a maze, trying different paths until you find the right way out.
While the Password Game can be challenging, it is also incredibly rewarding. The feeling of accomplishment when you finally crack the code is unparalleled. It’s like conquering a mountain or solving a complex puzzle. So don’t give up! Stay determined, stay focused, and keep pushing forward.
Now that you have a better understanding of the Password Game, I encourage you to give it a try. Immerse yourself in this captivating world of codes and mystery. See if you have what it takes to become a master code breaker. Remember, the more you practice, the better you’ll get. Are you ready to embark on this thrilling adventure? How to Win
The objective of the game is to earn points by correctly guessing the “password” based on one-word hints provided by your partner.
Playing the Game
Here are the rules for playing with a partner – suitable for up to 4 players. This home version is slightly different from the TV version, as it does not require a host or MC.

When it comes to team composition, there are two types of players: “A” players and “B” players. Each team consists of one “A” player and one “B” player. The “A” players sit next to each other, facing their “B” partners. Both players have their own holders to keep their word lists.
The “A” players can only see the “A” word list, while the “B” players can only see the “B” word list. The players take turns being the clue givers and receivers, alternating between “A” and “B” roles.

- As an “A” player, I start by giving clues for Password No. 1 on the “A” word list. Both of us, the “A” players, have the same Password in our cardholders.
- We need to decide which one of us, the “A” players, will go first. The player starting with the arrow places it at position 10 on the scoring indicator. Then, I give my “B” partner a one-word clue.
- If my “B” partner doesn’t guess the correct Password after the first clue, we move the arrow on the scoring indicator to 9. The cardholder is then passed to the other “A” player who gives a one-word clue to their “B” partner.
Clue Rules
The Password is always a single word, without hyphens and not a proper noun.
- The clue must be a single, non-hyphenated word. For instance, the clue “well-to-do” is not allowed.
If the other team disagrees and claims that a clue has two words or a hyphenated word, we can check the dictionary to settle the disagreement. If the challenging team is correct, they get the points for that Password. Proper nouns are allowed as clue words, so if the Password is “mystery,” one might give the clue “Hitchcock.” However, you cannot use any part or form of the Password as a clue. For example, “chemistry” cannot be clued with “chemist,” “stolen” cannot be clued with “steal,” and “monkey” cannot be clued with “monk.” Hand gestures and pantomime are not permitted, but you can use facial expressions and voice inflections. For example, you can whisper “silence” to indicate the Password “quiet.”
Code Example:
- A previously given clue word may be repeated by either player. It is also permissible to link a clue to previous clue words. For example, “race”, “horse” and “rider” may be three separate clue words linked together to get “jockey” as a response.
- No spelling of a clue word is allowed. If a form of the Password is given as a response, the responding player is given one chance to correct the word to the exact Password. For example, if “mud” is given for the Password “muddy” the player is told that they have given a form of the word and have one chance to correct it. If their next response isn’t the exact Password, no one scores on that word.

I want to explain how the game of Password works. Here are a couple of important rules to help you play the game successfully.
1. You can use a clue word that was used before or link your clue to previous clue words. For example, if someone used the words “race,” “horse,” and “rider,” you can combine these clues to guess the word “jockey.”
2. Remember not to spell out the clue word. If the password is “muddy” and you say “mud,” you will be given a chance to correct it. But, if your next guess is still not the exact password, no one will score any points for that word. So be careful!
I hope these rules make sense to you. Have fun playing the game!
Game Scoring
When you correctly guess a Password, you’ll earn points. These points are recorded on the Score pad and added to your overall score.
If you guess a Password correctly, you score points for that word. The opposing player, however, doesn’t score any points.
End of the Game
The game comes to an end when all 5 Passwords on the “B” list are guessed. To determine the total team scores, add up the points for both the “A” and “B” players.
The team with the higher score is declared the winner.
Game For Three Players
In this version of the game, one player acts as the clue-giver, providing hints to two other players who compete against each other to guess the correct Password. The same rules for clues and scoring apply as in the standard 4-player game.
- When it’s my turn to give clues, I can give one clue to both of you at the same time. We can use any word list we want. After I give a clue, we move the scoring indicator arrow down one number.
- You two can make guesses based on the clues I give. Each time you guess, I let you know if it’s the correct password. If you don’t want to guess, you can pass and not respond.
- Once everyone has made their guesses, I reveal whether the password is correct. The person who responds first with the correct password gets the points for that word. If both of you respond correctly at the same time, you both get points.
- We play 5 rounds, and the fifth word is worth double points. The player with the highest score wins the game.

Hey there! Let’s talk about the score for this round, shall we? You’ll find it written in the small box, and the total score is just below it.
Now, here’s some exciting news: Ron and Jake are the champions of the game! They’ve scored a total of 43 points, while Dylan and Sophie managed to score only 29 points. Impressive, right? Let me break down the scores for you.
Ron and Jake, also known as the “A” players, made quite an impact. Ron scored on words 2 and 4, adding to their team’s success.
Now let’s talk about Dylan. He pulled off something pretty amazing. He guessed the fifth word right when the ARROW was at position 6 on the indicator. That’s some incredible timing! As a result, his score for that word was doubled, turning it into a whopping 12 points.
Unfortunately, word 3 turned out to be a real challenge for everyone, and no one guessed it within 10 clues. So, the score for that word remains at zero (0).
As for the “B” players, Jake did a fantastic job. He managed to guess words 1, 3, and 5 (which were also doubled). Quite the streak! Sophie, on the other hand, scored on words 2 and 4.
And that’s the lowdown on the scores! Ron and Jake emerge as the victors with a total score of 43 points. It was a thrilling game, and they truly excelled. Let’s give them a round of applause!
