The Exciting Rules of One Night Ultimate Werewolf

One Night Ultimate Werewolf is an exhilarating game with a supernatural twist. In this thrilling game, everyone gathers around, and you are given a secret role card. You won’t know who the werewolves are until it’s time to reveal all!

Once the game begins, it’s a race against time. You have just a single night to find out who the werewolves are and protect your village from their wicked schemes. But be careful; the villagers themselves may not be what they seem!

Each player has a unique role with special abilities. You may be a werewolf, a seer, a robber, or many other intriguing characters. Your role will determine what actions you can take during the game. Listen closely, for every move and decision counts!

The heart-pounding part is the deliberation. You and your friends share what you heard, what you suspect, and who you think the werewolves might be. Your goal is to work together, trust your instincts, and figure out who to vote for, hoping it’s a werewolf!

But beware! The werewolves are masters of deception. They will do everything they can to throw you off their trail. They may lie, twist the truth, or even impersonate innocent villagers to escape your suspicions. It’s up to you to uncover their deception!

When morning comes, the moment of truth arrives. Everyone votes on who they believe the werewolves are, and that’s when the chaos unfolds. Once the votes are in, the villagers reveal their roles, and the true identities of the werewolves are exposed.

Now that you know the rules, gather your friends, sharpen your wit, and get ready for an intense night of One Night Ultimate Werewolf!

Let’s Get Started

The setup varies depending on the number of players, which can range from 3 to 10. I recommend starting with a game involving 3 to 5 players for your first time, as it will give you a quick sense of the gameplay. But don’t worry if you have more players; the game is quick, and everyone else will enjoy watching.

Make sure you have the following cards:

  • 3 players: We have 2 Werewolves, 1 Seer, 1 Robber, and 1 Troublemaker, along with 1 Villager.
  • 4 players: We add +1 Villager to the mix.

To ensure the game remains balanced, we always need three more cards than the number of players. These cards should be shuffled face down and distributed, with one card going to each player. The remaining three cards and matching tokens should be placed in the center of the table.

Each player should secretly look at their card and place it face down near the three center cards. It’s important that all players can easily reach all the cards, as demonstrated in the example for 5 players below:

Night Roles and Actions

At night, various players have important roles to fulfill. However, Villagers, Tanners, and Hunters don’t need to participate in nighttime activities.

Aside from having a role card, one player is chosen as the Announcer. They go through each role one by one, allowing players with those roles to perform their nighttime actions. Here’s a script you can follow, using the suggested cards:

Announcer: “Everybody, shut your eyes.”

All players, including the Announcer, close their eyes.

“Werewolves, wake up and search for other werewolves.”

The werewolves open their eyes and try to find other werewolves among the players.

“Hey there, werewolves! Time to close your eyes. Now, Seer, it’s your turn to wake up. You can take a peek at someone else’s card or check out two cards from the center of the table.”

The player chosen as the Seer card holder opens her eyes and can secretly glance at another player’s card or choose any two cards from the center of the table to examine.

“Seer, close your eyes. Robber, it’s your turn to wake up. You have the option to swap your card with another player’s card and then take a look at your new card.”

The player with the Robber card opens his eyes and can quietly exchange his card with another player’s card. After the swap, he gets to take a peek at his new card.

“Robber, close your eyes. Now, it’s the Troublemaker’s turn to wake up. You can switch the cards between two other players.”

The player assigned as the Troublemaker opens her eyes and can slyly exchange the cards of two other players without knowing what those cards are.

“Troublemaker, close your eyes.”

I close my eyes and shuffle the cards, making sure that no one can accuse me of tampering with the order.

“Everyone, wake up!”

We all open our eyes and look around, suspicion filling the air.

During the night, those who are not active must keep still and silent. No pointing, no moving, and definitely no secret signals.

Day

After the night has passed, we huddle together and start discussing who we think the Werewolves are. Everyone can voice their opinions, but no one should reveal their true role. Some Werewolves might even pretend to be someone else to save their own hides.

In the game of Mafia, things can get pretty tricky. Certain roles have the power to change other players’ cards, causing confusion and making it hard to know who you really are. It’s like wearing a different mask every night. Your role at the end of the night is the card that’s in front of you, even if it’s not the same as your original one. Once the night phase is over, no one is allowed to peek at the cards.

After some time for discussion, it’s time to vote. Ready? “Everyone, three, two, one, VOTE!”

Each player points to someone else. It’s like a giant finger pointing contest.

The player who gets the most votes is out of the game. Boom! Their card is revealed, and their true identity is exposed for all to see. If there’s a tie and multiple players have the same number of votes, they all get the boot and reveal their cards.

But what if no one gets more than one vote? In that case, nobody dies. The players might strategize this outcome by all voting for the same person, ensuring that each player receives only one vote. It’s a group decision!

End of the Game

After only one night and one day, the game comes to a close. And here’s how it turns out:

Village Team’s Victory:

  1. If we manage to eliminate at least one Werewolf. Even if we lose some of our own in the process, as long as a Werewolf bites the dust, we all emerge victorious.
  2. If it so happens that there are zero Werewolves among us, and nobody perishes throughout the game. It’s actually plausible for all the Werewolf cards to be in the deck, which would explain the absence of any Werewolves in the mix.

Werewolf Team’s Win Condition:

Now, let’s not forget about the Werewolves. They have their own set of requirements for a win:

They only succeed if, at least, a single player cackles as a Werewolf, but we still fail to eliminate them.

If we decide to introduce Tanner into the mix, things get a bit complicated. There are special rules surrounding this role that determine who comes out on top. Consult the Tanner’s role description for the details.

Tournament Play

Now, here’s an idea to spice things up: why not establish a mini tournament? Hand out poker chips or any small trinket to the winners of each game. It will certainly add an extra layer of excitement to the experience.

So, here’s how it goes. You need to have at least five chips to win the game. The player with the most chips at the end is declared the winner. Simple, right?

If there’s a tie between players, keep playing until one player has more chips than the others. In bigger tournaments with multiple games, you can try a double-elimination style. That means players keep playing until they lose twice.

Adding Extra Roles

Here’s where things get interesting. You can spice up your game by using different roles in addition to the basic setup. Just swap out a card for a new one, and you’ve got a whole new dynamic.

You can mix and match any combination of cards. But be careful not to introduce too many new roles at once. Stick with one or two at a time so everyone can understand them easily.

Remember, no matter which roles you choose, you always need three more cards than the number of players. Before every round, make sure to place a token for each card near the Announcer.

Hey there! Let me explain how the roles work in this game and how you can get creative with them.

First, it’s important for everyone to know what roles are in the game. This way, the Announcer will know the order to call them.

Now, when it comes to choosing the roles, don’t be afraid to get creative! You can try having only one Werewolf, or shuffle all the cards and randomly deal them to players. You can even create a village without any Villager cards, so that everyone has a special role!

Remember, the possibilities are endless. Have fun exploring different combinations and creating unique experiences!
