In Multiuniversum, my main goal is to close as many portals to alternate realities as I can and overload the transformers. This will earn me Discovery Points (DP), which are crucial for winning the game.
The player who accumulates the most DP will emerge as the ultimate victor. I can gain DP by closing portals that appear above five transformers in the machine.

The Components
Scientist Markers

These wooden pawns represent players who are moving between the transformers. It’s like they’re on a mission!
Every scientist in this game is a researcher who works at CERN, and they’re all part of a top-secret project called Multiuniversum. How cool is that?
Together, we’re trying to do two important things: close the portals and deactivate the unstable machine. But that’s not all – we also want to learn as much as we can about alternative dimensions. And here’s the exciting part – every portal card we collect is like a piece of a different reality. If we gather them all, we could even win the Nobel Prize!
But here’s the challenge: in order to close as many portals as possible, we need to be in the right place at the right time. That’s where our scientist markers come in. By moving them between the transformers, we can get closer to our goal. And don’t forget – we need to prepare the right tools and use our cleverness to outsmart the other players and be the one to close the most portals!
Lab Cards

Hey there! Your lab card is like your second home. It’s also a handy reminder of what color your scientist marker is.
During the game, any outcomes of your actions get put in your lab. This way, everyone can see how you’re doing. To do this, just put your action cards and portal cards under your lab card.
If you use an action card to get a tool ready, put it on the right side of the lab card. Just make sure only the tool icon is showing. On the other hand, any cards that represent sealed portals should go on the left side of the lab card. You’ll want to show off the dimension icon and any DP you earned.
Transformer Trading Cards

When playing the game, each of the 5 transformers has a special ability. You can see this ability in the bottom left corner of the transformer’s card.
To activate the ability, you need to use the corresponding icon on an action card. You can move the scientists between the transformers and close the portals above them.
Let me explain what each portal can do:
Change the order of a portal stack: Choose a stack of portals and rearrange the cards in any order you like. Keep this order a secret from the other players.
Get new cards and choose which ones to keep: I start by drawing 3 new cards from the action deck and adding them to my hand. Then, I have to make a tough decision. Out of all the cards in my hand, I can only keep 2 and discard the rest into the discard pile.
Move portals around: Another strategy I can use is switching the positions of 2 portal cards. This allows me to rearrange the portals to my advantage. However, there’s a catch! I can only switch portals that are face-up, and I can’t put a portal on top of a deactivated transformer.
Move each face-up portal to the bottom of its stack: Take the top portal card from each transformer and place it at the bottom of its stack. If there is only one portal card in a stack, leave it where it is.
Choose one card that you played this turn to keep as a tool: When you discard the cards you just played at the end of your turn, select one of them to keep as a tool. Place that card under your lab card. Remember: You can only keep a card that you played as an action, not one that you used as a tool this turn.
Keep in mind: Even if a transformer doesn’t have any portal cards on top of it and is deactivated, you can still use its action.

- The little light bulb icon up in the top left corner of a portal card tells you how many DP you can get for sealing it.
- The special symbol is used to get more DP. The number of bars around the symbol tells you how many cards with that symbol are in the game. Portal cards have these symbols:

Action Cards

Action cards are the key tools I use to conduct all the scientific work in the Multiuniversum Project. At the start of each turn, I have at least 3 action cards in my hand, and I need to use them strategically.
Once I understand how to interpret a single action card, I can easily use any card in the game. Each card allows me to carry out an action related to a specific transformer, depending on where my scientist is located.
Action cards display the following elements: on the left side, an action column; on the right side, a tool icon; and in the lower right corner, a trash can.
The actions available on action cards include:
– Search: I can draw 2 cards from the top of the action card stack.
Activate Transformer Ability: Perform the action stated on the transformer you’re currently on.
Move: So here’s what you can do: Pick up your scientist marker and put it on any other transformer. You can even join the scientists on a transformer where other players have already placed their markers. Cool, right?

Seal Portal: Now, if you want to seal a portal, listen up. First, take a look at the transformer you’re currently on. Got it? Good. Now, grab the proper tools from under your lab card and discard them in the discard pile. Once that’s done, you can place the card representing the sealed portal under your lab card on the left side. Remember, though, you can only seal a portal if you have the right tools. Got it?
When playing the game called Multiuniversum, you have the option to recycle cards from the discard pile. Recycling allows you to choose any card from the pile and add it to your hand. It’s a useful strategy that can be employed by any player at any time during their turn. You’re also allowed to look through the discard pile whenever you want.
It’s important to remember that each action card in Multiuniversum contains all the actions mentioned above, but they are arranged in a different order. So even though the order may vary, you’ll find all the actions on each card.
Additionally, on the right side of each action card, you’ll notice an icon representing one of the following tools:

You need to use these tools when sealing the portals. They are extremely important.

When you see the trash can icon, it’s a reminder that you have the option to discard your action card. By doing so, you can draw a new action card from the stack.
How to Play the Game
1. On your turn, you can choose to perform up to 3 actions from the list below (you can repeat actions multiple times):
Activate an action from a card
Prepare a Tool
Discard a Card
Pass: At any point during your turn, you can choose to skip any additional actions. Once you decide to pass, you cannot perform any more actions on your turn.
Remember: You can perform the same action multiple times on your turn, but you are limited to a maximum of 3 actions per turn. It’s up to you to decide which actions are most useful in different situations.
2. When it’s my turn, I move all the cards from my player area to the discard pile.
3. At the end of my turn, if I have less than 3 cards in my hand, I draw enough cards from the action card stack to have 3. But if I have 3 or more action cards in my hand already, I don’t draw any new cards.
And the best part is, I don’t have to discard any of my action cards from my hand. There’s no maximum limit to how many cards I can hold, so I can keep as many as I want.
If, at any point in the game, we run out of action cards in the stack, no worries! We simply take all the cards in the discard pile, shuffle them up, and use them to create a new action card stack. Then we draw 5 cards from the stack and set them next to it, creating the new discard pile, just like we did when we first set up the game.

What Happens When It’s Your Turn to Play
So, it’s now your turn to make a move in the game. You find yourself standing next to transformer #1, and you have a set of cards in your hand. To make things easier, let’s give those cards some names: A, B, and C, in that order from the left.
I bet you’re wondering what you can do with those action cards, right? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Since you’re right next to the first transformer, here are the actions you can take:

If you want, you can also use a card as a tool or get rid of it by adding it to the discard pile. Doing so will let you draw a new action card right away.
Most of the actions you can take this turn are all about getting ready for future turns. But if you take a look at the actions you have and the portals placed face-up above other transformers, you’ll see a series of three actions that let you do two things: prepare a tool and seal a portal, all in one turn.
So, how can you make this happen? And what order should you follow? Let’s find out!

First, get ready by sliding the tool under the lab card from its right side. This will be your first move out of 3 for this turn:

Hey there! So, if you’re standing next to transformer number 1, you can totally use the “Move” action from the B card to switch to a different transformer, even if there are other players there. Cool, right? This will count as your second action out of the three you get per turn.
Oh, look! Now you’re standing next to transformer number 3. You can totally use the “Seal Portal” action with the C card. See that icon on space 3? That means you can use this card to seal the portal. And guess what? That’s exactly what you need to do! Boom! This will be your last action for this turn. Don’t forget to discard any tools you need to get rid of, and slide the portal card under your lab card from the left side. Easy peasy! 
Well, it looks like my turn is over. I’ve used up all 3 of my actions and I don’t have any action cards left in my hand. So now it’s time for me to draw 3 new cards from the stack.
Now, it’s the next player’s turn. They can start whenever they’re ready, going clockwise.
There are lots of different ways to play your turn. It’s all up to you – you’re a real genius, after all. Just choose the combination of actions that you think will work best and help you win the game!
The Game Comes to an End
The game will end once we run out of any 3 portal stacks (in a game with 3-5 players) or any 2 portal stacks (in a 2-player game).
When that happens, each of the remaining players will get one last turn. We’ll start with the player sitting to the right of the person who started the game. That way, everyone gets an equal number of turns to finish things up.
When it comes to calculating your final score in the game, there are a few important factors to consider: sealed portals, unused tools, and collected sets of dimension icons. Let me break it down for you:
- Sealed Portals: First, we need to count the DP (Dimension Points) for the portals you have sealed. You can find the DP value inside the bulb icon in the upper left corner of each portal card.
- Unused Tools: Next, deduct 1 DP for each unused tool you still have under your lab card. It’s important to make good use of your tools!
- Dimension Icons: Lastly, you need to count the DP for the dimension icons shown on your sealed portal cards. But be careful, sealing portals with certain sets of icons can earn you additional DP. Here are the details:
- Omni Set: If you manage to seal portals with all 5 different dimension icons, you’ll gain an extra 9 DP for each set. That’s a nice bonus!
- Specialization Set – If your sealed portals show the same icons, you’ll get DP based on the number of icons: 4 additional DP for 2 matching icons, or 9 additional DP for all 3 matching icons.
Remember: When counting additional DP, you can only use each portal card once for one set. If you use a card to complete a set of 5 different icons, you can’t use it to collect a set of 2 or 3 matching icons. So, choose wisely!
The player with the highest score wins the game!
Ties
What happens if the game ends in a tie? Here are a few rules that, when followed in order, will determine the ultimate winner:

- The person who has used the fewest tools.
- The person who has sealed the most portals.
- The person who is holding the most cards.
- The oldest person (because wisdom counts when you’re competing for the Nobel Prize).
