Hey there! Let’s dive into the amazing world of Monopoly: Mega Edition together. Get ready to explore the rules behind this fantastic board game that’s been captivating players for decades!

First things first – how about we discuss the setup? Here’s what you need: a game board, 4 tokens, 22 houses, 49 cards, 12 hotels, 28 Title Deed cards, money in different denominations, 4 Reminder cards, and 2 dice. Phew, that’s quite a collection!

Alright, now that we have everything ready, let’s embark on our journey. The goal here is simple, my friend – become the ultimate tycoon and bankrupt your opponents! Sounds intense, right?

So, how exactly do we achieve this grand victory? Well, it’s all about buying properties, constructing buildings on them, and charging rent to other players who land on your land. But don’t worry, I won’t leave you guessing – let’s delve into the nitty-gritty of the rules!

The game begins with each player selecting a token and placing it on the “GO” space. You can choose from fantastic options like the battleship, the race car, the cat, and the Scottie dog. Once everyone is set, get ready to roll those dice. Remember, the player who rolls the highest number gets to start the game!

Buying Properties and Building Buildings

During the game, you’ll come across various properties. When you land on an unowned one, you have the chance to buy it! If you don’t want it, no problem – we’ll simply auction it off to the highest bidder. Money talks, after all!

Now, owning properties is where the real fun begins. You can construct houses and hotels on your owned properties! Keep in mind, though, that you must construct evenly – no buildings can be left out. This is your chance to make your properties ultra-attractive to players passing by!

Monopoly Mega Edition Additions

Ah, the Mega Edition – it wouldn’t be complete without some added excitement, would it? Well, get ready for a twist! In this version, we have Bus Tickets and the Speed Die. These features amp up the thrill and unpredictability, making the game even more exhilarating.

What Makes This Edition Special

Money

Guess what? You start the game with a whole $2500! And it gets better – you’ll have a fresh and crisp $1000 bill to call your own, along with the usual five one-dollar bills, five five-dollar bills, and five ten-dollar bills. Not to mention the six twenty-dollar bills, two fifty-dollar bills, two one-hundred dollar bills, and two five-hundred dollar bills. Now that’s a lot of cash!

Playing the Game

All you need to do to figure out who goes first is to roll the two white dice. Easy peasy! No complicated rules or guesswork – just a simple roll of the dice.

How to play Monopoly - The Mega Edition Official Game Rules UltraFoodMess

When it’s my turn, I get to roll all THREE dice: the two white dice and the new speed die.

How to play Monopoly - The Mega Edition Official Game Rules UltraFoodMess

In Monopoly, if all three dice show pips, you simply move the total of the three dice.

Note: Before completing your move, your opponents cannot build or trade.

Doubles & Triples

When determining doubles, only the white dice count. If

you roll doubles and are entitled to roll again, you can use a Bus Ticket instead of rolling the dice. When you’re in JAIL, you only roll the two white dice (unless you pay beforehand to get out, in which case you roll all three dice).

If you roll triple 1’s, 2’s, or 3’s, you can move to ANY space on the board. You don’t have to roll again. Rolling doubles twice before rolling triples doesn’t send you to Jail.

New Properties & Skyscrapers

How to play Monopoly - The Mega Edition Official Game Rules UltraFoodMess

Hey there! Let me break it down for you. Each color group of properties in Monopoly has something special. When you’ve bought all but one property in a color group, you can start building houses and hotels. But here’s the exciting part – if you happen to own ALL the properties in a group and you’ve built hotels on each, guess what? You can go even bigger and build skyscrapers!

Now, if you want to know how much a Skyscraper costs or how much rent you can collect from having one, just check out the property’s Title Deed. It has all the juicy details you need.

Oh, and here’s a cool detail for you to keep in mind: once you’ve acquired all the properties in a group, you can collect TRIPLE the rent on any unimproved property in that group. How awesome is that? But there’s a little catch – you can’t mortgage any property in a group until all the houses on it are sold back to the bank.

When you finally acquire the last property in a group, after already building on the other properties, it’s crucial that you un-mortgage this property right away (if it was mortgaged) and develop it following the “even” building rule. If you don’t have enough funds to do so, you must distribute the existing houses among all the properties in the group.

In some cases, you might have to dismantle hotels to achieve this. If necessary, you can sell a Skyscraper back to the bank for half its original value and revert the property to a hotel.

Railroads

How to play Monopoly - The Mega Edition Official Game Rules UltraFoodMess

Are you looking to enhance your Railroads? Well, I’ve got just the thing for you! By constructing a TRAIN DEPOT (cost: $100), you can take your Railroads to a whole new level. A Train Depot not only boosts the rent due for the Railroad but also doubles it!

I bet you’re thinking, “Do I need to own multiple Railroads before building a Train Depot?” The answer is no! You can build a Train Depot on any single Railroad you own.

Now, here’s the best part. If you ever decide to part ways with your Train Depot, you can sell it back to the bank for $50. Talk about a sweet deal!

Bus Tickets

How to play Monopoly - The Mega Edition Official Game Rules UltraFoodMess

Throughout the game, you have the option to use a Bus Ticket instead of rolling the dice. It’s a handy trick! You can move to any space on the same side of the board. Keep in mind that the corners of the board count as spaces too. Once you use a Bus Ticket, you must give it to the Banker and it can’t be used again. There are a total of 16 Bus Tickets available. When they’re gone, they’re gone! Be careful though, if an “All Tickets Expire” card is drawn, any other Tickets that players have are lost to the bank. They expire! Don’t worry, if you use a Bus Ticket or roll the dice and pass GO, you still get to collect $200. Remember, all Bus Tickets should be shown and kept face up so everyone knows you have them. Now, let’s talk about some other new spaces you’ll come across.

Auction

Welcome! If you find yourself in this situation, you get to participate in an exciting auction. The goal is to choose an unowned property that the Banker will put up for bidding.

Now, as the game progresses and all the properties become owned, things change a little. In this case, you have to advance to the property with the highest rent that you need to pay. If there are two properties with the same rent, go to the one that is closer to your current position.

A Surprise on Your Birthday

Hey there! Looks like it’s your lucky day! When you land on this space, something special happens. You can either collect $100 from the Bank or keep a Bus Ticket for later in the game. The choice is yours!

Grab a Bus Ticket now and save it for later when you need it. If there are no Bus Tickets left, don’t worry, just carry on.

Monopoly – The Classic Game

The Goal of the Game

The whole aim of the game is to become the richest player by buying, renting, and swapping properties.

Getting Started

Put the game board on a table and place the Chance and Community Chest cards facedown on their designated spots. Each player picks a token to represent themselves as they move around the board.

Each player is given $1,500 in cash, split like this: two $500 bills, two $100 bills, and two $50 bills; also, they receive six $20 bills, five each of $10 bills, $5 bills, and $1 bills.

All the rest of the cash and equipment are kept by the Bank. Stack the Bank’s cash vertically in the compartments of the plastic Banker’s tray.

Welcome to the World of Banking!

Hey there! If you want to be a Banker in this game, then you’ll also get to be an Auctioneer. Just make sure you keep your personal cash separate from the Bank’s cash, okay?

Now, when there are more than five players, you can decide to be only the Banker and let someone else be the Auctioneer. It’s totally up to you!

All About the Bank

Guess what? The Bank doesn’t just hold cash. It also keeps all the Title cards and buildings until the players are ready to use them. They’re in safe hands!

The Bank manages salaries and bonuses, sells and auctions properties, and gives players the right Title Deed cards. Oh, and if you need some extra cash for a mortgage, the Bank can help you out with a loan.

Plus, the Bank collects all the penalties, loans, and interest. It’s always got money because it can even make more if needed! All the Banker has to do is write on a piece of paper and voila!

Time for Some Game Play!

Let’s get started with the game of Banker! It’s your turn to roll the dice. Whoever gets the highest total goes first. Place your token on the “GO” corner, roll the dice, and move your token in the direction of the arrow. The number of spaces you move is determined by the dice.

Once you’ve completed your turn, it’s the next player’s turn, moving in a clockwise direction. Your token stays on the space you landed on and will continue from there on your next turn. It’s possible for multiple tokens to be on the same space at the same time.

Depending on the space your token lands on, several things can happen. You might have the option to buy a property, or you may need to pay rent, penalties, or draw a Chance or Community Chest card. There’s even a possibility of landing on “Go to Jail”!

When you roll doubles, you’ll move your game piece like normal, adding up the numbers on both dice. And don’t forget – any special rules or consequences for the space you land on still apply. But here’s where it gets interesting – keep those dice close by because we’re about to roll again!

If you roll doubles three times in a row, something big happens. You have to move your game piece straight to the “In Jail” section of the “IN JAIL – JUST VISITING” corner space. Take a look at the JAIL section for more details on what happens next.

Go

How to play Monopoly - The Mega Edition Official Game Rules UltraFoodMess

Every time you land on or pass over GO, whether you roll the dice or draw a card, you get a $200 salary from the Bank. This $200 is only paid once per trip around the board.

But if you roll the dice and pass GO, and then land two spaces past it on the Community Chest space or nine spaces past it on the Chance space, and you happen to draw an “ADVANCE TO GO” card, you will receive $200 for passing GO the first time, and another $200 for reaching it the second time, as instructed on the card.

Buying Properties

When you land on a property that no one owns, you have the option to buy it from the Bank at the price listed on the property. You will receive the Title Deed card to show that you own the property, and you should place it faceup in front of you.

If you don’t want to buy the property, the Banker will put it up for auction and sell it to the highest bidder. The highest bidder pays the Bank the amount of their bid in cash and receives the corresponding Title Deed card.

Anyone, even if they initially declined to buy the property, can make a bid. Bidding can start at any price.

Paying Rent

When you land on a property owned by another player, you have to pay rent to the owner based on the amounts listed on the property’s Title Deed card. If the property is mortgaged, no rent is collected.

When a property is mortgaged, the owner puts its Title Deed card face-down in front of them (see MORTGAGES). It’s beneficial to have all the Title Deed cards in a color group because then you can charge double rent for undeveloped properties in that group.

Did you know that this rule I’m about to tell you applies to properties that don’t have a mortgage? It’s true, even if another property in that group is mortgaged, this rule still holds. Having buildings on properties is even better because you can collect higher rents compared to properties without any improvements.

But here’s the catch: the owner can’t collect the rent if he or she forgets to ask for it before the second player rolls the dice. So it’s important to keep your wits about you and ask for that rent right on time!

Now, let’s talk about Chance and Community Chest cards.

How to play Monopoly - The Mega Edition Official Game Rules UltraFoodMess

When you land on a Chance or Community Chest space, you need to take the top card from the indicated deck. Then, you have to follow the instructions on the card and put it back facedown at the bottom of the deck.

The “GET OUT OF JAIL FREE!” cards are special because you get to keep them until you need to use them. After using them, you have to return them to the bottom of the deck.

If you don’t want to use these special cards, you have another option. You can sell them to another player at any time for a price that both of you agree on.

Income Tax

How to play Monopoly - The Mega Edition Official Game Rules UltraFoodMess

If you happen to land on the “INCOME TAX Pay 10% or $200” space, you’ve got a couple of choices:

You can either estimate your penalty and pay the Bank $200 in cash, or you can hand over 10% of your total worth.

Your total worth is the sum of all the cash you have, the printed values of your mortgaged and unmortgaged properties, and the cost of all the buildings you own.

Before calculating your total worth, you need to make a decision about which option you want to go with.

Jail

How to play Monopoly - The Mega Edition Official Game Rules UltraFoodMess

So, here’s the deal – you end up in Jail for a few reasons:

  • If you land on the space marked “Go to Jail”. It’s like a trap!
  • If you draw a card that says “GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL”. Well, that’s just unlucky.
  • If you roll doubles three times in a row. Yep, three strikes and you’re in.

When you find yourself in Jail, things get real. You don’t get to collect your $200 salary for that round. Nope, it’s off-limits. No matter where your token is on the board, you have to go straight to Jail. Tough luck, buddy.

Being in Jail puts a halt to your turn. It’s like hitting a wall. But, here’s the thing – if you just land on the Jail space without being sent there, you’re not in trouble. In fact, you’re just “Just Visiting”. No penalty, and you can keep playing like normal on your next turn. Phew!

Now, let’s talk about how you can get out of Jail:

When you find yourself in jail in the game of Monopoly, there are a few ways to get out. Here are some options for getting out of jail:

    1. Rolling doubles on any of your next three turns allows you to immediately move forward the number of spaces shown by your doubles roll. Remember, though, that even if you roll doubles, you do not get another turn.

    2. If you have a “GET OUT OF JAIL FREE!” card, you can use it to get out of jail.

    3. Another way to get out of jail is by purchasing a “GET OUT OF JAIL FREE!” card from another player and playing it.

    4. Alternatively, you can pay a fine of $50 before you roll the dice on either of your next two turns to get out of jail.

If you don’t roll doubles by your third turn, you will have to pay the $50 fine. After paying the fine, you can immediately move forward the number of spaces shown on your roll. It’s important to note that even while you’re in jail, you can still engage in other activities in the game, such as buying or selling properties, buildings, and collecting rents.

Get a Break with Free Parking

When I land on the Free Parking space, I get a moment to relax and catch my breath. No money, properties, or rewards come my way here. It’s like a little oasis in the game.

    Build Your Dream House

How to play Monopoly - The Mega Edition Official Game Rules UltraFoodMess

When you own all the properties in a color-group, you can buy houses from the Bank and put them on those properties. If you buy one house, you can put it on any of those properties.

Your next house must be placed on an unimproved property of this color-group or any other complete color-group you own. The price for each house, according to your Title Deed card, is the amount you have to pay the Bank.

The owner still gets double rent from an opponent who lands on the unimproved properties of their complete color-group. Following these rules, you can buy and place as many houses as you want, whenever you have the money and think it’s a good idea.

You have to place them evenly, meaning you can’t put more than one house on any property of a color-group until you have placed one house on every property of that group.

So, here’s what’s up. You can start adding houses to your properties one row at a time, and you can go up to four houses on each property. Pretty cool, right? But here’s the catch: you can’t have, like, three houses on one property if you only have one house on another property in that same group.

Oh, and here’s another thing. When you sell houses back to the Bank, you gotta break it down evenly. So, if you sell one house, you gotta sell another one on a different property, and so on.

    Let’s Talk About Hotels

How to play Monopoly - The Mega Edition Official Game Rules UltraFoodMess

So, here’s the deal. If you manage to grab all four houses on every property of a color-group, you’ve hit the jackpot. Now you can go ahead and buy a hotel from the Bank. The best part? You get to choose which property to place it on.

Of course, before you can put up the hotel, you’ll need to return those four houses back to the Bank. And here’s the catch – you’ll have to pay the value of the hotel as shown on the Title Deed card. Oh, and by the way, you can only have one hotel per property. Keep that in mind.

    Uh-oh, We’re Out of Buildings!

So, say the Bank runs out of buildings to sell. In that case, if you want to buy a building, you’re gonna have to wait. You can’t just snap your fingers and make one magically appear. Instead, you’ll have to wait for some other player to sell their building back to the Bank. Patience is a virtue!

Now here’s the thing, when there’s a limited number of buildings available and multiple players want more than the Bank has, things can get a little hectic. In that case, the buildings go up for auction. Whoever is willing to pay the most gets the buildings. It’s all about the highest bidder!

    Time to Cash In

When it comes to playing Monopoly, there are certain rules that you need to be aware of when it comes to selling properties and buildings. Let’s dive into these rules so that you know what to do in these situations.

Firstly, you can sell unimproved properties to other players privately, but you cannot sell properties if there are buildings on them. If there are buildings present, you will need to sell them back to the Bank before you can sell the property.

If you have houses on a color-group, you must sell them one by one, evenly, in the opposite order that you bought them. For hotels, you can sell them all at once or sell them one house at a time. It’s important to note that one hotel is equal to five houses.

Now let’s talk about mortgages. When you mortgage a property, you can receive a loan from the Bank equal to half of the property’s value. However, you must pay 10% interest when you mortgage a property. If you want to unmortgage a property, you will need to pay the loan back to the Bank along with an additional 10% interest.

So, now you know the rules regarding selling properties and buildings and mortgaging properties. It’s important to keep these rules in mind as you play the game and make strategic decisions.

Did you know that you can mortgage unimproved properties any time you want? It’s true! Just go to the Bank and they’ll take care of everything for you. But here’s the thing, if you want to mortgage an improved property, like one with buildings on it, you have to sell all the buildings on all the properties of the same color-group to the Bank first. And guess what? You’ll get half the price back!

Now, when you mortgage a property, the mortgage value is right there on the Title Deed card. But here’s the catch, once you mortgage a property, you can’t collect any rent from it. Bummer, right? But don’t worry, if you have other properties in the same group that are not mortgaged, you can still collect rent from them.

So, how do you lift a mortgage? Well, it’s simple. Just pay the Bank the amount of the mortgage plus 10% interest, and bingo! You’re good to go. And here’s a little bonus for you: once all the properties in a color-group are no longer mortgaged, you can start buying back buildings at full price. Pretty cool, huh?

Oh, and by the way, if you’re wondering what happens to a mortgaged property, here’s the deal: the player who mortgages it still keeps it and nobody else can snatch it away by paying off the mortgage. It’s like having your cake and eating it too!

But here’s something interesting – did you know that if you own a property with a mortgage, you can actually sell it to someone else? Yeah, it’s true! The catch is that the new owner will have to pay off the mortgage, plus 10% interest, to the bank. So, if you find yourself as the new owner, you can choose to lift the mortgage right away by paying off the mortgage and the extra interest.

Now, if you decide not to lift the mortgage right away, you’ll still have to pay the bank 10% interest when you buy the property. And if you eventually decide to lift the mortgage later on, you’ll have to pay the bank an additional 10% interest on top of the mortgage amount. It’s definitely a decision to think about!

    Now, let’s talk about bankruptcy.

So, here’s the deal – if you owe more money than you can pay to either another player or the bank, you’re officially declared bankrupt. If your debt is to another player, you have to hand over everything you own that’s valuable to that player and leave the game. It’s not the most fun position to be in, but it happens.

When it comes to settling a debt, if you own any buildings, you have to give them back to the Bank in exchange for cash. You’ll get back half of what you paid for the buildings, and this cash will go to your creditor.

If you have properties that are mortgaged, you have to give those to your creditor as well. But the new owner will need to immediately pay the Bank the interest on the loan, which is 10% of the property’s value.

The new owner has a choice – they can either pay off the loan or keep the property and pay the interest again on a later turn when they decide to lift the mortgage. But remember, if they do choose to hold onto the property, they will have to pay the interest once more.

If you owe the Bank more money than you can afford to pay, even after selling off buildings and mortgaging properties, you’ll have to surrender all of your assets to the Bank.

When it comes to bankruptcy in the game of Monopoly, things can get pretty intense. If a player goes bankrupt, their time in the game immediately comes to an end. No more chances or opportunities to make a comeback. It’s game over for them.

But what happens to their properties?

Well, the Bank takes charge and sells off all the properties seized from the bankrupt player. The only exception to this rule is buildings. They are not sold and remain as they are. It’s a ruthless process, but that’s the way the game goes.

Now, let’s talk money. If a player finds themselves strapped for cash and in need of a loan, they can only turn to the Bank. But here’s the catch – they can only borrow money by mortgaging their properties. No borrowing from other players or lending cash to anyone. The Bank holds all the power in this game.

    It doesn’t end there.
