Hey there! I get to be a squire in this cool game. The goal is to outshine the other players by doing the best in different areas of training, so I can earn Chivalry Points ().

How do I do that? Well, in this game, we have 6 turns. During each turn, I need to choose the cards that will help me the most and use them at the right time to move my discs up the training tracks.

When we finish turn number VI, the squire with the most Chivalry Points wins and gets knighted by King Arthur! How awesome is that?

Game Play

A turn has 6 phases:

  1. Deal 5 Learning Cards To Each Player.
  2. Draft The Learning Cards.
  3. Play The Learning Cards.
  4. Scoring
  5. Reset
  6. Change The First Player

1. Deal Cards

The game starts when the first player shuffles all 52 Learning cards. Then, they deal 5 cards to each of us (face down).

2. Draft Cards

First, let’s take a look at the cards you’ve been dealt. You have five cards in your hand. Choose one of them and place it face down in front of you. Then, pass the remaining four cards to the person sitting on your left*. In return, you will receive four cards from the player on your right.

Now, out of the four cards you just received, pick one and place it face down in front of you. Pass the remaining three cards to the person on your left*. Keep going like this until each player has five cards face down in front of them.

Pay attention to the draft direction: The parchment that keeps track of the turns also shows you the direction of the draft. This means that you will alternate between passing your cards to the player on your left and the player on your right.

Now that we’ve got our cards in place, let the game begin!

Once I’ve made my final card selections, I take those 5 cards into my hand.

3. Let’s Get Playing!

Now it’s time to put those cards into action. Starting with the first player, we go around the table, each of us choosing a card from our hand and placing it face up in front of us. Then, we move our playing piece up the track on the game board, according to the value of the card we played (ranging from 2 to 5).

Let’s imagine a scenario where I am playing a game called Gallantry. In this game, each player has a set of Learning cards that they can use to make moves on the game board.

For example, if the yellow player decides to play a specific card, they can move the yellow disc on the game board three squares up.

(Keep in mind that the color of the corners and the symbols on each corner of the card can help you determine which game board is associated with it.)

This process continues until every player has played four out of their five Learning cards. The final Learning card is not used in the game.

Hey there! Just a quick heads up: The Jousts/Tournaments cards can be used on either the Jousts game board or the Tournaments game board. You can’t split the card’s value between the two boards.

Important note: If a disc lands on a square that already has one or more discs, it gets stacked on top of them. When scoring, a stacked disc is considered one rank higher in the scoring order.

Another thing to keep in mind: If a disc makes a complete round trip on the track (all 20 squares), grab an unused disc of the same color and stack it on top. From then on, you’ll move the stack of 2 discs instead of just one. It’s a way to show that you’ve completed a full turn on that track.

Oh, but here’s the catch! The “King’s Service” board doesn’t allow stacking, as it only has 12 squares.

4. Scoring

When it comes to scoring, I want you to understand that it’s done game board by game board. We start with the Gallantry game board, and then move on to the others. Some game boards, like Gallantry, Jousts, and Tournaments, score every turn. It’s important to take into account that they keep score frequently.

There are also other game boards, like King’s Service, that only score at the end of specific turns. You can easily notice this by looking at the parchment in the upper left corner of the board. So make sure to keep an eye on that!

In the gallantry game, players earn or lose Chivalry points based on their rank on the game board track.

I’m ranked 1st on the game board if my disc is the highest, and I’m ranked last if my disc is the lowest.

Just a little reminder: if there’s a tie, the disc that’s above is considered higher on the track than the one below, except for square 0 where everyone is considered last.

  1. The player in 3rd place gets to pick one of their discs, from any game board, and move it up one square on the track.
  2. Next up is the player in 2nd place. They get to choose one of their discs, from any game board, and move it up two squares on the track.
  3. Finally, the player in 1st place gets to pick one of their discs, from any game board, and move it up three squares on the track.

There’s a little reminder up in the top right corner of the Gallantry game board, just so y’all don’t forget how it works.

Important! You must know that when you use a bonus in the game, you can only move one disc at a time. It’s not allowed to split the movement and distribute it among multiple discs.

How to Score the Other Game Boards:

When playing a game with 3 players, the person ranked third doesn’t receive any benefits from certain game boards. Specifically, the Gallantry, Jousts, Tournaments, and Quests game boards do not offer any rewards to the player in last place. Additionally, the Education and Charity game boards actually deduct Chivalry points from the player who is ranked last. This means that being the third-ranked player can be quite challenging and may require some strategic thinking to overcome these hurdles. Just a reminder: In the case of a “tie,” the disc that is above is considered higher on the track than the disc that is below. However, this rule doesn’t apply to square 0. On that square, everyone is treated as if they’re in last place.

5. Reset

6. Changing the first player

After every turn, the player to the left of the current first player becomes the first player for the next turn. They get Excalibur.

The hourglass moves one square further on the Parchment used to keep track of the turns.

End of the Game

The game ends when turn VI is over. Each player adds up their Chivalry Points on their coats of arms.

The player with the highest number of Chivalry Points win the game and is knighted by King Arthur!

If there’s a tie, the most gallant player (the one with the higher disc on the Gallantry track) wins.
