Machi Koro Game Rules
Hello there! I’m here to guide you through the exciting world of Machi Koro. This simple, yet captivating game will have you hooked from the very beginning. So, let’s dive right in and discover how to play!
Objective
The goal of Machi Koro is to become the most successful and prosperous city Mayor. To achieve this, you must build and develop your city, construct landmarks, and collect income from your establishments. The first player to complete all their landmarks wins the game!
Starting the Game
To start the game, each player receives a starting card, which represents their city. This card shows the establishments available to them. Additionally, players receive a hand of five coins, which they can use to purchase new establishments or activate existing ones.
Turn Structure
The game consists of multiple turns, with each player taking their turn in clockwise order. On your turn, you follow the following steps:
1. Roll the dice: Roll one or two dice to determine which establishments will generate income this turn.
2. Check income: Compare the value rolled on the dice to the values on your establishments. If any of your establishments match the rolled value, you gain coins equal to the income indicated on the card.
3. Purchase new establishments: Spend coins to purchase new establishments from the available selection. These establishments can be added to your city during later turns.
4. Construct landmarks: Once you have acquired all the necessary establishments for a landmark, you can spend coins to construct it. Landmarks provide unique abilities and contribute towards winning the game.
Establishments
Establishments are the heart of Machi Koro. Each establishment generates income and helps your city grow. There are four types of establishments:
– Wheat fields and bakeries: These basic establishments provide income when a specific dice combination is rolled.
– Cafes and convenience stores: These establishments can steal coins from other players, increasing your own wealth.
– Restaurants and stadiums: These establishments generate income from all players on specific dice rolls.
– Landmarks: Constructing landmarks grants special abilities and victory points.
Game End and Victory
The game ends as soon as one player constructs all their landmarks. At this point, victory points are counted, with each landmark contributing towards the player’s total score. The player with the most victory points wins the game and becomes the revered Mayor of Machi Koro.
Now that you know the rules, it’s time to grab your dice and start building your city. Good luck and may your entrepreneurial spirit lead you to victory!
The aim of the game is to grow your town and construct all the major landmarks faster than your competitors.
Just a quick heads-up: the cards in this game represent different establishments, and they are placed on the table for everyone to see. You don’t hold them in your hand or shuffle them.
Let’s get started with the setup!
First, put the two initial establishments (Wheat Field and Bakery) facing up. Then, place the four Landmarks (Station, Shopping Mall, Amusement Park, Radio Tower) facing down, indicating that they are still under construction. Each player should have their own set of starting cards and landmarks in front of them.
Take note: if there are only 3 players or fewer, you won’t need the extra cards. Group the supply establishments together and display them on the table so that everyone can easily see them.
Here’s what we’re going to do: we’ll give 3 coins to each of you. Don’t worry, we’ll leave the extra coins right here on the table where they’re easy to reach. If any of you earn some coins from the Bank during the game, you’ll just take them from the table. Now, let’s decide who goes first. We’ll use a fair method, so everyone has a chance.
About the Game
Let’s talk about how to play this awesome game! I’ll guide you through the steps so you can start having fun right away.
Game Play
First things first, we’ll take turns playing the game. We’ll start with one player, and then move clockwise to the next player.
Okay, here’s what happens on your turn: you’ll roll the dice. Based on the number you roll, a specific establishment will be activated and its effect will take place. This means that the person who owns that establishment will earn some income. Pretty cool, huh?
After you finish your turn, you have a choice: you can either build a new establishment or complete a landmark. You see, landmarks are special buildings that need to be completed in order for a player to win the game. The first player to complete all four landmarks wins!
Now, when you roll the dice, you’ll notice that there are two numbers. In that case, only the establishments that add up to the sum of those numbers are valid. So keep that in mind when you’re planning your next move.
Roll the Dice
Let’s talk about the dice. They’re an important part of the game, because they determine how far you can move and which establishments are activated. Here’s what you need to know:
- The game progresses in turns, which means each player takes a turn rolling the dice.
- At the beginning, you’ll start by rolling just one die.
- But, if you own a completed landmark called the “Station,” you’ll have the option to roll two dice instead.
Remember, it’s up to you whether you want to roll one die or two. So choose wisely!
Earn Income
When you play the game, you make money based on the number you roll on the dice and the special abilities of the buildings you own that match that number. This means you can get coins from the bank or from other players, depending on how your building works. And the best part is, there’s no maximum limit to how many coins you can have! You can even trade coins with other players if you want.
Now, let’s talk about the different times when you can get coin income. It all depends on what’s written on your building card:
Blue: The Primary Industry
Hey there! Want to make some extra cash? Well, I’ve got just the thing for you. It’s called the Blue industry, and it’s pretty awesome.
So, here’s the deal. With the Blue industry, you can earn money from the bank. And the best part? You can do this during anyone’s turn. Yeah, that’s right. You’re not limited to just your own turn to make some moolah.
But wait, there’s more! The Blue industry is like a magic trick. It’s a special power that allows you to regenerate a response from the bank. It’s kind of like getting a second chance to earn some dough. And who doesn’t love a second chance, am I right?
Now, I’ve got to be honest with you. This Blue industry thing can be a bit tricky. It’s a double-edged sword. On one hand, you can make some serious cash. But on the other hand, you’ve got to be careful not to get too greedy. Balance is key, my friend.
All in all, the Blue industry is a pretty sweet deal. It’s all about making money and having some fun along the way. So, what are you waiting for? Give it a try and see just how far you can go!
Green: Cool Places to Make Money
You know what’s great? Finding places where you can make some extra moolah. And that’s exactly what the green spaces on the game board are all about. They’re like gold mines for your bank account, giving you a chance to cash in and boost your funds during your turn! It’s a win-win situation, my friend.
Red: Restaurants.
Picture this. You’re out with your friends for a fun evening, and hunger strikes. Your stomach rumbles, demanding to be filled. But where do you go to satisfy your cravings?
Luckily, there is a wide array of restaurants to choose from. Whether you’re craving pizza, burgers, sushi, or something else entirely, you can find a restaurant that caters to your taste buds.
Restaurants are more than just places to eat. They are vibrant spaces brimming with delicious aromas and lively conversations. As you step inside, you are greeted with warmth and the promise of a memorable dining experience.
Each restaurant has its own unique atmosphere – some are cozy and intimate, while others are bustling with energy. The decor, the music, and the ambiance all work together to create an atmosphere that enhances your dining experience.
One of the benefits of going to a restaurant is that you don’t have to worry about cooking or cleaning up. All you have to do is sit back, relax, and let the waitstaff take care of you. You can focus on enjoying your meal and the company of your friends or loved ones.
And let’s not forget about the variety of dishes you can choose from. From appetizers to desserts, the menu is a treasure trove of culinary delights. You can explore new flavors, try different cuisines, and broaden your culinary horizons.
But deciding on the right restaurant can sometimes be a challenging task. With so many options available, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. That’s why it’s important to consider factors like your budget, dietary preferences, and the occasion.
Are you celebrating a special occasion or just grabbing a quick bite? Are you looking for a family-friendly restaurant or a romantic spot for a date night? These are all things to take into account when choosing the right restaurant.
So, next time you’re feeling hungry and in need of a culinary adventure, remember that restaurants are not just places to satisfy your hunger but also spaces where memories are made, taste buds are delighted, and good times are shared.
Purple: The Big-Kahuna Spot.
When it’s my turn, I become the money magnet – I get income from all the other players. Pretty nifty, right?
Players Passing the Buck
When we’re exchanging coins right here, right now, you gotta pay up before anything else. No exceptions.
If you’re a bit strapped for cash and can’t pay the full amount, just pay what you can and we’ll call it even. No worries about going into the red – your coin total never drops below zero. But hey, the player getting paid doesn’t get a dime back for the lost income. Bummer.
- Let’s say I rolled a “3” and you own a Café in your town. That means you owe me a coin. But hey, what’s this? You don’t have any coins? No problemo, you don’t owe me a thing.
- Now, after you’ve breathed a sigh of relief, it’s time for me to collect. Since I’ve got two Bakeries in my town, the bank dish out two shiny new coins for me.
If there’s more than one money transaction happening after a single dice roll, we’ll handle them one by one in a neat little counter-clockwise dance.
When playing the board game Monopoly, there are certain rules I need to keep in mind to make the game fair and enjoyable. For example, if I roll a “3” and other players own Cafes, they can charge me a certain amount of coins. However, if I don’t have enough coins to pay them, I can’t avoid the payment. I have to pay the owed coins to each player in a specific order, going counter-clockwise around the table.
When it’s my turn and I have enough coins, I also have the option to build new establishments or complete landmarks that are still being constructed. To do this, I simply pay the amount of coins indicated on the bottom left corner of each card to the bank. This allows me to expand and improve my properties, making my position stronger in the game.
Did you know that in a town, you can only build one of each type of establishment? That means there can only be one of each kind, like a bakery or a grocery store. But don’t worry, you can build multiple establishments of different types!
It’s important to keep track of your cards, especially if you have multiple establishments in one town. Stacking the cards vertically can help you stay organized.
But remember, you can only build an establishment if there are cards available. If they’re all sold out, you’ll have to wait until more become available.
Once you complete a landmark, turn the card face up. This means that the landmark’s effects are now active and you can enjoy its benefits.
Now, let’s talk about the “Shopping Mall” card. This card has a special effect. It affects every card you have of the same type. For example, if you have two “Bakery” cards, you’ll gain 4 coins instead of just 2. It’s like getting a bonus for having multiple cards of the same type!
