How to Play La Boca: The Exciting Puzzle Game
Welcome to the world of La Boca – an exciting and challenging puzzle game that will put your creativity and coordination skills to the test! In this guide, I will walk you through the rules and gameplay of La Boca, so you can jump right in and start enjoying this fun and engaging game.
Objective
The objective of La Boca is to recreate various patterns and shapes using colorful blocks. Each player or team will have a set of blocks and a pattern card they need to recreate. The challenge lies in the fact that you and your partner will be looking at the pattern from different perspectives.
Setting Up
First, divide players into teams. Each team consists of two players, with one player being the “Builder” and the other player being the “Director.” The Builder will have the blocks, while the Director will have the pattern card.
Next, choose a pattern card and place it in front of the Director, so only they can see it. The Builder should not look at the pattern card.
Now, set up the game board by placing the dividing wall vertically between the Builder and the Director, ensuring that they cannot see each other’s side of the board.
Gameplay
The game is played over four rounds. In each round, the Builder and the Director will have a limited amount of time to recreate the pattern on the card using the blocks.
The Director’s job is to verbally guide the Builder on where and how to place the blocks to match the pattern. The Director can use any descriptive words they want to convey the information, but they cannot touch the blocks or make any gestures.
The Builder’s job is to listen carefully to the Director’s instructions and place the blocks accordingly. They must rely solely on the Director’s guidance to complete the pattern.
At the end of each round, the Builder and the Director will compare their completed pattern with the original pattern on the card. Points are awarded based on the accuracy of the match. The team with the most points at the end of the four rounds wins the game.
Strategy and Tips
La Boca requires teamwork, communication, and spatial thinking. Here are some strategies and tips to enhance your gameplay:
- Communicate clearly and precisely. Use specific words and directions to guide your partner.
- Plan ahead. Take a moment to study the pattern before giving instructions or placing blocks.
- Listen actively. Pay close attention to your partner’s instructions and ask for clarification if needed.
- Work together. Collaborate with your partner and trust their guidance.
Conclusion
Now that you have a good understanding of the rules and gameplay of La Boca, it’s time to gather your partner and dive into the world of colorful blocks and challenging patterns. Get ready to challenge your spatial thinking and have a blast with this unique and innovative puzzle game!
When I play the game, I team up with a partner and we work together to recreate the building shown on a card. The catch is that each of us sees the building differently and we have to communicate effectively to build it correctly.
If we successfully complete the task and the building we construct matches both of our views exactly, we earn points based on how quickly we finish. The faster we build, the more points we get.
What You Need
- The game box includes a board, 11 building blocks, an electronic timer, 6 large player tiles, 30 small partner chips, 64 task cards, and 100 point-chips.
Setting Up the Game
- Before we start playing, let’s carefully remove the cardboard parts from their frames.
- Please choose your color and take the large player tile in your color, along with all the small partnership chips in your color.
- Next, let’s distribute one of your small partnership chips to each of the other players. If there are three players, give two chips to each of the other players.
- Now, remove any extra large player tiles and unused small partnership chips from the game.
- Finally, let’s turn the partnership chips you received face down, shuffle them, and place them next to your large player tile.
Getting Started: Setting Up the Game
Hi there! Let’s start by setting up the game board so we can get straight to the fun part. Here’s what you need to do:
- First, take the gameplay board and place it in the box insert. Make sure to align the circular hole for the timer on the board with the hole in the insert.
- Next, grab the point chips and place them in the compartments on the game insert. Look at the game board to see where each chip should go.
- Now, it’s time to find the perfect spot for the timer. Put it in the round compartment right between the compartments for the 1 and 20 point chips.
- The light blue and dark blue background task cards need to be separated into two piles. Shuffle each pile, but keep them separate. Once shuffled, place both piles on one side of the game box.
- Lastly, grab the 11 building blocks and place them on the other side of the game box. They’re all set and ready to go!
Let’s Practice
Before we jump into the first round, it’s a good idea for us to work together on a practice round. This will help everyone get the hang of the game. Here’s what we’ll do:
Let’s get started!
Gather all players and divide yourselves into two teams. Half of you will stand on one side of the box, and the other half on the opposite side.
We need to set up the game board. Take the light blue task card and slide it into the slot on the board insert. Make sure only the top of the card is visible, just like in the picture on the right.
Now, this particular card doesn’t require the red block. You can remove it from the game for now. The image on the card will be built using the remaining ten components.
Tip: If you need to see the playing card better, you can raise the box by placing the lower part, which includes the playing insert, on top of the box lid.
Let’s build!
When I look at the task card, I see the blueprint for building something. It’s like a map that shows exactly how each piece should fit together. But what’s interesting is that there are actually two different ways to look at it. It’s like looking at two sides of the same thing.
Let me explain how it works:
- You and I can work together on this. We can talk and discuss our ideas, but here’s the twist – you can only see your side of the card and I can only see mine. It’s like we’re solving a puzzle together, but we each have our own piece.
- Now, here’s the important part – the pieces we use can’t go outside of the 4×4 grid. It’s like a boundary that we have to stay within. We have to be creative and find a way to fit everything neatly.
- Take a look at this image #image.jpg – it’s a visual guide to help us. We can stack the pieces on top of each other, put them side by side, or even place them in front of each other. The possibilities are endless!
- But here’s the catch – the pieces don’t have to be in a straight line. We can arrange them in any way we want. We can even “set back” some of the pieces if we need to. It’s all about finding the right fit.
- Oh, and one more thing – we can’t leave any gaps underneath the blocks. We have to make sure everything is sturdy and secure. We don’t want anything to fall apart!
So, are you ready to give it a try? Let’s use our creativity and problem-solving skills to build something amazing!
Hey there! So, you’re on the hunt for some tips on how to build a structure that matches a given image. Lucky for you, I’ve got you covered. Let’s dive in!
First things first, I want to remind you of a few rules. Pay close attention now, because they’re important:
- You have to use all of the building blocks. Keep in mind that sometimes there may be blocks that you can’t see, but they’re there, hiding behind the visible ones.
- You can add, remove, and re-add the building blocks in any order you like. Feel free to get creative!
- Once both players say they’re done, building time is up! Now, it’s time to check if your structure matches the image on the task card. Double-check it from both sides!
- The problem is solved when your structure looks exactly like the picture on the card, both from the front and the back.
Now that we’ve got the ground rules covered, let me tell you why this is important. Building structures like this helps you sharpen your spatial skills and boosts your problem-solving abilities. It’s like a fun puzzle that challenges your brain!
So, if you’re up for a challenge, put your building skills to the test with these guidelines. I promise you’ll have a blast!

The Adventure Begins
Now that we’ve practiced and gotten the hang of the game, it’s time to jump into the real action. The actual gameplay is very similar to the practice round, but with a couple of exciting additions.
- Each round, the game is played in pairs, with two people working together to solve the puzzle.
- Don’t forget to use the timer! It’s essential for keeping track of how long it takes you to complete the puzzle.
Let’s Play!
Before we start the game, you and your partner need to decide which difficulty level you want to play. We have two options: the light blue task cards for a regular challenge, or the dark blue task cards for a higher difficulty level. Tips: For your first game, I recommend starting with the light blue task cards.
If you choose the light blue tasks, set the red block aside. You’ll only need all 11 building blocks if you go for the dark blue tasks.
Who Goes First?
Alright, let’s get this game started! I’ll explain how to play. The person who’s been around the longest goes first. They show everyone the special chip they have, which determines their partner for this round. Each pair of players should sit across from each other, where they can see one side of the task card clearly.
Starting the Round
The player with the special chip for this turn takes the top task card from the pile and puts it in the task card slot. Then, they press the start button on the timer and shout “Go!” to begin.
Completing the Task
As soon as the timer starts, both partners start working on the task. When they’re both done, the player who started the timer presses the stop button to stop the clock.
Getting Points
Getting points in the game is pretty simple. The faster you and your team complete a task, the more points you earn. Take a look at the table below to see how points are distributed:
| Time | Points |
| Less than 2 minutes | 5 point-chips |
| More than 2 minutes | No points |
When both players have solved the puzzle, they each receive the same number of point-chips. Keep your point-chips next to your big player marker so you can keep track of them throughout the game.
If you and your partner take more than 2 minutes or fail to solve the puzzle correctly, you won’t get any points for that task. But that doesn’t mean you can’t keep trying! You can still attempt to solve the problem and ask for help from other players if you need it.
Time to Clean Up
Once a round is over, it’s time to clean up. Remove all blocks from the board and place the used task card at the bottom of the deck. To reset the clock back to “00:00”, simply press both the minute and second buttons at the same time.
Alright, here’s how it goes: I start by flipping over a small token to see who my partner will be for this round. After that, the next player takes their turn, flipping over their token to find their partner. We keep going clockwise, each player revealing a token to determine their partner for that round. We continue like this until everyone has revealed their tokens, so that each player has played two rounds with each of the other players as a partner. If there are only three players, that means four turns with each partner.
When the game is over, it’s time to tally up the points. Each player adds up their points, and the player with the most points wins. If there’s a tie, then both players with the most points are declared winners.
Potential Issues
- You may have missed details in the assignment instructions.
- It’s possible that you have overlooked some required elements.
- A gap might have been unintentionally created by placing blocks incorrectly.
Counting Down
I’m going to show you how to use the timer with some simple button combinations:
1. To set the timer to “00:00,” press both the “minute” and the “second” buttons at the same time.
2. Press the “start/stop” button to start the timer.
3. When both team partners have finished, press the “start/stop” button again to stop the timer. You can then read the time to determine the points.
4. If you need to delete the time, press both the “minute” and the “second” buttons simultaneously. Just make sure you have awarded the points correctly before doing this.
There are a couple of things to note about the timer:
– It uses a 1.5-volt button battery (LR44), which comes pre-installed.
– Before using it for the first time, you’ll need to remove the plastic tab from the back to activate the battery.
– If the battery runs out, you can easily replace it. Just unscrew the battery cover and put in a new battery.
When you need to replace the battery, follow these simple steps:
1. Gently insert the new battery into the compartment, making sure to match the correct polarity. The negative side should be facing downwards. Press the lid firmly and secure it with the screw.
2. Be careful to avoid creating a short circuit with the battery, as it can cause an explosion. Take your time and handle the battery with care.
3. Once the old battery is removed, make sure to dispose of it properly in accordance with environmental regulations. Always follow the guidelines for safe battery disposal.
By following these instructions, you can easily replace the battery without any issues. Remember to handle it with caution and dispose of it responsibly.
