Welcome to the Jambo Game!
I’m here to explain the rules of the Jambo Game in a way that is easy for you to understand. So, let’s dive right in!
In this game, I am the guide who will show you how to play. Don’t worry, it’s not as hard as it seems. I’ll break it down step by step.
First, you need to gather the materials. You will need a deck of cards with different animals on them. Each card has a number from one to nine.
Once you have the cards ready, shuffle them well. This way, the game will be fair and balanced. No one wants an unfair advantage, right?
Now that the cards are shuffled, it’s time to start the game. The goal is to be the first player to get rid of all their cards. Sounds simple, doesn’t it?
To begin, each player is dealt seven cards. These cards are your hand, and you will use them to make combinations. You can have three kinds of combinations: animal combinations, series combinations, and cart combinations.
An animal combination consists of three cards with the same animal but different colors. For example, three lions of different colors would make an animal combination.
A series combination consists of three cards with the same color but different animals. For instance, three green cards with different animals would make a series combination.
A cart combination consists of three cards with the same number but different animals and colors. So, three cards with the number three but different animals and colors would make a cart combination.
Now, let’s talk about the turns in the game. Each player takes turns clockwise, starting with the dealer. During your turn, you can do three actions: draw, sell, and use.
Drawing means taking one card from the draw pile. You can only draw one card per turn unless you have a special card that allows you to draw more.
Selling means exchanging two cards from your hand with two new ones from the draw pile. This action is useful if you have cards that you can’t use in any combination. You can only sell once per turn.
Using means creating a combination with the cards in your hand. Remember, it can be an animal combination, a series combination, or a cart combination. Once you use your cards, you place them on the table in front of you for everyone to see.
If you can’t draw, sell, or use any cards, you can pass. But be careful, because if three players in a row pass, the game ends, and whoever has the fewest cards left wins.
And that’s it! These are the basic rules of the Jambo Game. I hope you understood everything. Now it’s time to gather your friends, shuffle those cards, and have a great time playing!
Remember, the Jambo Game is all about strategy and luck. So, make your moves wisely and may the best player win. Enjoy!
“Jambo” is a Swahili word that means “Hello.” It was used by merchants in Central Africa as a friendly greeting before colonization. In this game, I get to be a trader in those days, competing against others to be the first to earn 60 gold. I can do this by selling tea, hides, fruits, salt, silk, and trinkets.
We play the game using cards, each representing different goods, people that can help me or hinder my opponents, and animals that add some excitement. I take turns and can make up to 5 moves per turn. The game continues until one player reaches the goal and wins.
Goal of the Game
The objective is simple: the player with the most gold at the end wins.

Let’s Get Set Up!
Now, I would like to talk about how to set up the game.
In the game box, you’ll find two large market stands, five action markers, forty ware cards, twenty-two utility cards, twenty-nine people cards, and fourteen animal cards. Additionally, you’ll also have five action markers, fifty-two gold pieces, and six of each: trinkets, hides, tea, fruit, salt, and silk. These are all the resources you’ll need to play and enjoy the game.
When setting up the game, make sure the action markers are placed within reach of all players. Shuffle the ware, utility, people, and animal cards separately, and place them face down. Each player should start with a certain number of gold pieces and resources, which will be mentioned in the game’s instructions. After following these steps, you’re ready to embark on an exciting journey with this intriguing game. Get ready to show off your strategizing skills and have a blast!
Remember, setting up the game properly is an essential step to ensure a smooth and enjoyable gameplay experience. So, take your time and follow the instructions to get everything set up just right. Good luck, and may the best player win!
- To start the first game, first, carefully take the wares, gold, and action markers out of their frames.
- Your opponent and I sit across from each other at the table.
- You and I both get to choose a large market stand, either green or red, and place it in front of us on the table. We can have up to six wares on our large market stand.
- After shuffling the rest of the cards, we put them face-down on the table between us. This is the card supply. We each draw 5 cards from the card supply as our starting hand.
- The wares are placed next to the card supply.
- The gold is placed next to the wares and acts as the bank. We each start with 20 gold, which consists of 3 large 5 gold pieces and 5 small 1 gold pieces. We put our gold in our play area.

I want to explain a game called “Jambo” to you. It’s a simple card game that you can play with a group of people. Here are the steps to set up the game:
1. First, place the 5 action markers in the middle of the table.
2. Next, the players choose a starting player. This person will be the one who starts the game.
Now, let’s talk about how to play the game:
Just a quick note for the first game: In Jambo, it’s all about making clever moves and using valuable cards at the right times. So, don’t worry too much about strategy in your first few games. Take the time to learn the cards and how they can be used. You can save serious strategy play for later games.
Alright, each player in the game has their own large market stand. This is where they display their wares. During the game, players can also acquire small market stands to show and sell even more wares. To do this, players can play ware cards. These cards allow them to buy wares from the supply and place them on their market stands.
I hope that gives you a good idea of how to play Jambo. It’s a fun and strategic game that you can enjoy with your friends and family. Give it a try and see if you like it!
Just like you, I want to make some money and have fun while playing games. In this game, I can use the ware cards to sell things on my market stand and earn some money. The price to buy or sell is right there on the cards. Easy peasy!
But it’s not just about selling. I can also play people and animal cards to help myself or mess with my opponents. And if I want some extra power, I can place utility cards in my play area. These cards give me special abilities during my turns. How cool is that?
In this game, here’s how my turn works:
First, I have to follow two phases in the right order. That’s important!
- Get some cards
- Play the cards
When it’s my turn, I can use up to 5 action markers. Each time I take action, you take one of those markers from the middle of the table. But don’t worry, at the end of my turn, you put them back.
Listen up! Here’s a cool trick: If I have 2 or more action markers left at the end of my turn, I get a bonus! I can take 1 gold from the bank. How awesome is that!
Phase 1: Get Some Cards
- First things first, I draw the top card from the pile. I take a peek at it, but keep it a secret. Then, I have a choice. I can either add it to my hand or I can show it and put it on the discard pile. This whole thing costs me 1 action marker.
- If I add the card to my hand, I’m done with phase 1 and move straight to phase 2. In phase 2, I can’t draw any more cards from the card supply unless I use an action that allows it.
- If I discard the card, I can draw another card or move to phase 2.
- Each time I draw a card, it costs me 1 action marker.
- This means I can draw and look at up to 5 cards, but I can only keep 1. And I can only choose to keep the last card I draw. So, for example, I can’t draw 3 cards and decide to keep the first card I drew.
- It’s possible for me to use up all 5 action markers drawing cards in phase 1. If that happens, I don’t have a phase 2.
When it comes to playing the game, you have some options. In Phase 1, you can choose to draw cards or skip it altogether and move on to Phase 2. If you skip Phase 1, you get to use all your action markers in Phase 2. However, most players usually spend one or two action markers in Phase 1 to draw cards and build their hand. It’s always good to have a few cards to work with.
Phase 2 is where the real action happens. This is when you get to play your cards. Generally, playing one card costs one action. Keep in mind that there may be exceptions noted on some of the cards. There are five different types of cards that you’ll use in different ways throughout the game. These include small market stands, ware cards, utility cards, people cards, and animal cards.
Now let’s take a closer look at each type of card and how they work.
Small Market Stand
If you’re interested in starting your own small business, a market stand can be a great option. It’s a simple way to sell your products and connect with customers on a personal level. However, there are a few important factors to consider before diving in.
First and foremost, location is key. You want to find a spot that gets a lot of foot traffic and is easily accessible. This will ensure that you have a steady stream of potential customers passing by your stand. It’s also important to consider the competition in the area. If there are already similar market stands nearby, you’ll need to find a way to set yourself apart.
Another important factor to consider is your product. What will you be selling at your market stand? It’s important to choose products that are in high demand and appeal to your target audience. Do some research to understand what people in your area are looking for and what they’re willing to pay for.
Once you have a location and products in mind, it’s time to think about how you’ll set up your market stand. You’ll need to invest in a table or booth, as well as any other equipment or supplies you might need. It’s also important to think about branding. How will you make your stand stand out? Consider creating a logo or signage that reflects your brand and attracts attention.
Finally, marketing is key. It’s important to spread the word about your market stand and attract customers. Consider using social media, flyers, and word of mouth to promote your stand. You can also offer special deals or discounts to incentivize people to visit.
Starting a small market stand can be a fun and rewarding venture. It allows you to showcase your products and connect with customers in a personal way. But before you dive in, take the time to consider these important factors. Finding the right location, choosing the right products, setting up a visually appealing stand, and marketing effectively are all key to running a successful market stand. Good luck!
When we start playing the game, each player already has a large market stand. But here’s the twist: we also have the option to build small market stands along the way. To do this, we can play small market stand cards from our hands. These small market stands will be placed right next to our large market stands and will stay there till the end of the game. The cool thing is that the small market stand has space for 3 wares!
The first time someone builds a small market stand, they have to pay 6 gold to the bank. But from then on, if anyone wants to build another small market stand, it’s gonna cost them only 3 gold. And remember, that’s paid directly to the bank, not to the player who built it earlier.
Building multiple small market stands is totally allowed! However, there is a limit. Each player can’t have more than 5 small market stands in total during the game.
Now, let’s talk about Ware Cards!
Ware cards are super important because they can be used for buying or selling wares. But here’s the catch – they’re discarded after being used once. So, we gotta be smart and make the most of them while we can!
When it comes to wares, most ware cards display 3 wares, although there are a few that showcase 6 wares.
Getting the Right Wares
If you’re looking for the perfect wares, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for. By following these guidelines, you’ll be able to choose the right wares for you.
- Quality: One of the key factors to consider when buying wares is their quality. It’s important to look for wares that are well-made and built to last. This will ensure that you get the most out of your purchase.
- Price: Another important factor to consider is the price of the wares. You want to make sure that you’re getting a good deal and not overpaying for the wares. It’s always a good idea to compare prices and shop around before making a final decision.
- Functionality: When choosing wares, it’s important to think about how you’ll be using them. Are you looking for wares that are practical and functional, or are you more interested in wares that are decorative and stylish? Understanding your needs and preferences will help you make the right choice.
In Conclusion
When it comes to buying wares, there are a few key factors to take into account. By considering the quality, price, and functionality of the wares, you’ll be able to make a more informed decision and choose the right wares for you. So, if you’re in the market for some new wares, remember to keep these factors in mind!
When you buy, you have to give the bank the gold amount displayed on the bottom left of the card and, in return, you get all the goods shown on the card from the supply. Then, you can place these goods on any open spots on your market stands.
- If you don’t have enough space on your market stands for all the goods shown on the card, you can’t play it.
- If you don’t have enough gold to pay for the goods, you can’t play it either.
- You’re also not allowed to play a ware card if all the goods shown on it are not available in the supply. Whenever you play a ware card, you have to buy all the goods shown on it!
The market has plenty of room for 6 items. You can use the first 5 spaces for free, but if you fill up the sixth space, you have to pay 2 gold to the bank. This applies every time you fill up the sixth space, no matter which one it is.
Keep in mind that it’s usually better to have a small market stand. That way, you won’t have to pay for the sixth space and you can sell more items.
Now let’s talk about selling.
When you sell, you take the amount of gold displayed on the lower right of the card from the bank, and return the goods shown on the card to the supply.
You can only sell goods from your market stands if you have all the goods shown on the card.
Useful Cards
- When I play a utility card, I put it face-up in my play area. Utility cards stay in my play area and are not discarded at the end of my turn. I can use the function of a utility card at any time during my turns, even right after I play it.
- I can only use each of my utility cards once per turn. When I use a utility card, I turn it upside-down to show that it has been used.
- I can never have more than 3 utility cards in my play area. If I want to play a 4th utility card, I have to get rid of one of the utility cards in my play area. I can even discard a card that I’ve already used this turn.
When I play the game, I can have multiple copies of the same utility card in my play area. This allows me to use the function of that card more than once, but only once per card, during my turn.
After I finish my turn, I return the utility cards I used, so they are available for my next turn.
Note: It’s important to remember that using a utility card will cost you 1 action marker!
People
When it comes to people, they are a fascinating subject to study. People are complex beings with their own unique characteristics and qualities. We all have our own thoughts, emotions, and experiences that shape who we are.
I find it interesting to observe people and try to understand what makes them tick. There are so many different types of people in the world, each with their own individuality. Some people are outgoing and sociable, while others are more introverted and reserved. It’s amazing how varied and diverse we all are.
Interacting with people can be both exciting and challenging. You never know what someone is thinking or feeling unless they tell you. Sometimes, people can be difficult to decipher, and their actions may not always align with their words. But that’s what makes human interaction so intriguing.
If you’re someone who enjoys studying human behavior, then you’ll love exploring the fascinating world of psychology. Psychology is the study of the mind and behavior, and it can provide valuable insights into why people think and act the way they do.
By understanding psychology, you can gain a deeper understanding of yourself and others. You’ll learn about concepts like personality, motivation, and emotion, which can help you navigate the complexities of human interaction. Psychology can be a powerful tool in your personal and professional relationships.
So, the next time you find yourself in a conversation with someone, take a moment to truly listen and understand. Try to see the world from their perspective and empathize with their experiences. You’ll be amazed at what you can learn about yourself and others.
Remember, people are complex beings with their own unique qualities. Embrace the diversity and richness of human nature, and you’ll open yourself up to a world of knowledge and understanding.
So, here’s the deal. When you play a people card, you gotta do the action that’s written on it, and then toss it away.
Animals
When I play an animal card, I do what it says on the card and then get rid of it. However, my opponent can play a guard card to stop the animal card’s action. It doesn’t cost any action markers to play a guard card, and it cancels out the animal card’s effects for both of us. We discard both the guard and animal cards after that.
Once I have 60 or more gold at the end of my turn, the game is almost finished. But before it’s over, my opponent gets one more turn with 5 action markers. If they have the same amount or more gold than me, they win. But if I’m the one who triggered the end of the game and my opponent has less gold than me, then I’m the winner.
Some Important Rules to Remember:
- Remember: if you have 2 or more unused action markers at the end of your turn, you get 1 gold from the bank!
- You can have as many cards in your hand as you want.
- If you don’t have enough space in your market stands for the goods you receive from people and animal cards, you can choose which ones to take and which ones to leave in the supply.
- Everyone can see how much gold you have. If you don’t have any gold and want to take an action that costs gold, you can’t do it.
- The utility cards have a different design and a darker background to set them apart from the person and animal cards.
- If there are no more cards in the supply, shuffle the discard pile and use it as the new card supply.
