Aim of the Game
To become the top student at the Isidore School of Magic, your task is to gather three treasures from the mythical creatures residing in the Kingdom of Calandria. Only with these items can you concoct the ultimate magic spell and successfully complete your studies!
The first student to bring back all three treasures to the school will be awarded the prestigious Isidore School of Magic Diploma, ultimately emerging as the winner of this enthralling game!

Getting Started
- First, put the game board in the middle of the table. Pick a wizard or witch student and put their collection card in front of you. Place your playing figure on Isidore, which is the starting field.
- You can choose a spell card (Rock, Water, or Fire) to begin the game with. Put it face-down on your collection card.
- Now, put the ingredient tokens, gold tokens, and silver tokens face-down in separate stacks on the table. Make sure not to mix them up.
I’m going to give you a step-by-step guide on how to set up the board game. First, let’s get the ingredients ready. You need to place an ingredient token in each empty field on the game board. Put them in the markets of the village of Azurro and the Lighthouse of Calandria, as well as in the fields of the Green Forest. The tokens in the village and the lighthouse should be face-up, so everyone can see them. The tokens in the Green Forest should be face-down.
Next, we’ll set up the gold and silver tokens. Take three of them and place them face-down in the fields of the game board. Put them on the mines of the Steep Mountain Path.
Finally, we’ll set up the spell cards. Make three stacks: one with the Rock cards, one with the Water cards, and one with the Fire cards. Shuffle each stack and place them face-up next to the school, close to the game board. This way, you can see the ingredients you need for the Rock, Water, or Fire spells.
And there you have it! The game board is all set up and ready for an exciting adventure. Enjoy!
- Put the three duel cards next to the game board.
- Grab as many treasures as there are players and put them next to the magical creatures: the Fire Dragon gets the dragon’s teeth, the Rock Giant gets the emeralds, and the Water Nymph gets the Water Nymph tears in Water Nymph Bay.
- Put the diploma next to the game board near the school.
Let the Adventure Begin
We all start at the Isidore Academy of Magical Arts. The youngest student goes on the adventure first. Roll the dice and move your student.
You can decide how many steps to take, as long as it doesn’t go over the number of dots on the dice.
Hey there! Let’s talk about the exciting game of Calandria. When playing, you have to keep in mind that the roads are very narrow, so we can only move in a clockwise direction. For instance, if I roll a 3, I can choose to move 1, 2, or 3 steps forward. Cool, right?
Now, here’s where things get interesting. If you roll the magical stars, you get the incredible power to teleport yourself to any field of your choice! Yep, you can choose to go back to where you started or go somewhere completely different. How awesome is that?
Getting Ingredients for Spells
In the Kingdom of Calandria, you can get your hands on the ingredients needed for your Rock, Water, and Fire spells in different ways. You can collect them as you explore, buy them from others, or even trade them with fellow adventurers. These valuable items can be found all across Calandria, so keep your eyes peeled!

The Green Forest is a magical place where wonderful things grow: mushrooms, berries, and herbs. These special ingredients are the key to creating powerful spells. When you step foot in the enchanted forest, you have the opportunity to choose one of these ingredients without knowing what you’ll find.

First, I want you to place the ingredient face up on top of the collection card. This way, everyone can see what you’ve collected. Next, add an ingredient from the stack to the Green Forest. But here’s the tricky part – make sure the ingredient is face-down. This will keep things exciting!

I’ve got some exciting news for you! Did you know that there’s a hidden treasure trove of gold and silver on the Steep Mountain path? That’s right! And you can get your hands on it! All you have to do is explore the mines along the path.
Now, here’s the best part: you can use those precious gold and silver tokens to buy all sorts of fantastic ingredients! Where, you ask? Well, at the bustling markets in the charming village of Azurro and even at the magnificent Lighthouse of Calandria!

If you stop on the Steep Mountain path, you can choose a gold or silver token. Show everyone how rich you are by placing the token face-up on your collection card.
To replenish the mines on the Steep Mountain path, take tokens from the stack and place them face-down.
In the village of Azurro and at the Lighthouse of Calandria, you’ll find markets where merchants sell their goods to the locals. You can buy or trade any ingredients you need at these markets.

Hey there! Let me tell you about this cool game I found. It’s all about buying and trading ingredients to make spells. The game board shows you the prices of all the ingredients available at the market. But here’s the catch: if gold is required, you can only pay with gold, and if silver is required, you can only pay with silver.
At the market, you have the option to buy ingredients or trade them. You can even trade two of your own ingredients for one ingredient from the market. And guess what? You can do both buying and trading during each turn. After you’re done, don’t forget to replenish the market with new ingredients from the stack.
Creating Spells

So, here’s the deal. Once you’ve got everything you need to cast a spell, you head on back to school. But listen up, because you can only perform the magic at good ol’ Isidore. And guess what? There are three types of spells you can conjure: Rock, Water, and Fire.
Now, pay attention to the top spell card in the stack. It tells you what ingredients you need to whip up that particular spell. If you’re hangin’ out at Isidore and you’ve got all the right stuff for a Rock, Water, or Fire spell, then you can nab yourself a spell card.
Here’s the twist: keep that spell card hidden by putting it face down on your collection card. That way, the other kids won’t know which spells you’ve got up your sleeve. As for the ingredients, they go back in the stack after you snag a spell card.
Now, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can trade as many ingredients as you want during your turn to get different spell cards. But there’s a catch— you can only have one spell card for each type of spell on your collection card. Clear as crystal? Good, let’s get spellcasting!
If you have a spell card, you control an element. The spells are essential because you need them to challenge one of the magical creatures in Calandria.
Finding Treasures
In the corners of Calandria, there are three ancient magical creatures: the Fire Dragon, the Rock Giant, and the Water Nymph. They protect the three treasures you need to pass your graduation. These treasures are extremely rare and can only be obtained by dueling the magical creatures.
The Fire Dragon

No one knows if the Fire Dragon is a boy or girl because we’re all too scared to get near this dragon that breathes fire! But one thing we know for sure is that it guards its treasure with its powerful fire attacks! Now, you’ve probably heard that a tooth from a ground dragon can actually heal you. Sounds crazy, right? But it’s true!
The Big Ol’ Rock Monster

Imagine this: you have a chance to obtain an emerald, a gem that promises everlasting wealth. But there’s a catch. You must face off against a mighty Rock Giant in a desperate battle for the coveted stone. This colossal being is known for his short temper and his refusal to part with his treasures. The question is, are you up for the challenge? Can you outwit the giant and claim the emerald as your own?
The Enchanting Water Nymph

Don’t ever call the Water Nymph a mermaid, because you’ll quickly regret it! This wailing creature tries to attract innocent seafarers by crying loudly. If you manage to mix just one of the Water Nymph’s tears into a magic potion, you’ll have all the luck in the world.
Battling a Magical Creature
Magical creatures are incredibly powerful and always have three different duel cards (Rock, Water, and Fire) to counter your attacks. If you want to challenge a magical creature, you need to land on its field and have at least two of the three spell cards with you at that moment:

- To challenge the Fire Dragon to a duel, you’ll need a Fire card and one or two more spell cards.
- To challenge the Rock Giant to a duel, you’ll need a Rock card and one or two more spell cards.
- To challenge the Water Nymph to a duel, you’ll need a Water card and one or two more spell cards.
The Duel Begins!
The first person to win two rounds becomes the winner of the duel.
The player to the left of the person attacking takes the role of the magical creature and receives the three dark duel cards.
In this game, just like in “Rock-Paper-Scissors”, both players choose one of their spell cards (duel cards) and place it on the table at the same time after saying the magical spell “I-SI-DORE” (like counting to three).

- Fire beats Rock because fire melts rock.
- Rock beats Water because rock absorbs water.
- Water beats Fire because water puts out fire.
- If the student and the magical creature play the same spell card, the elements cancel one another out and no one wins the round.
Tip: It’s not a good idea to duel with a magical creature if you only have two spell cards. But sometimes, you can get lucky and defeat the magical creature, which means you’ll get one of their treasures.
If you’re the first one to win two rounds of the duel, the magical creature will give you one of their treasures. You have to take good care of it because you won’t have a chance to get another one.
If the magical creature wins, you have to wait until your next turn before you can challenge them again.
End of the Game
Hey there! I’m super excited to tell you about this awesome game we’re playing at the Isidore Academy of Magical Arts. It’s called the Treasure Hunt, and it’s a really fun way to test our magical skills and have a great time!
The aim of the game is to be the first student to find and collect three treasures. And guess what? If you’re that lucky winner, you get to go back to school and receive a special diploma from our prestigious academy. Pretty cool, right? Plus, you also become the ultimate game champion!
A Fun Twist for Older Students
Now, we have some students at Isidore who have been here for a while and know their way around magical quests. So, for them, we have a special variation of the game to make it more challenging and exciting!
- If you’re an older student, you won’t start the game with a spell card. This gives our younger students a little head start, just to keep things fair.
- As an older student, you can challenge other older students to a duel. Talk about adding some magical intensity to the game!
- But here’s the catch: if you lose against a magical creature, you have to give up one of your spell cards. That means you’ll have to start collecting all the ingredients again to remake the spell. Don’t worry, though – I know you’ve got what it takes to bounce back!
Now, remember, if you come across the Fire Dragon and it beats you, you’ll have to place your Fire card back under the stack. But don’t let that discourage you – stay determined and keep working towards those treasures!
If the Rock Giant beats me, I have to put the Rock card under the stack.
If the Water Nymph beats me, I have to put the Water card under the stack.
When I, as an older student, land on a field occupied by another older student during my turn, I can choose to challenge them to a duel (if there are more than two students on a field, I get to choose who I want to duel against).
Dueling with a fellow student is just like dueling with a magical creature, but it only lasts for one round.
– If I win the duel, I can swap one ingredient with the other student. However, I can’t swap gold, silver, or the three treasures.
If the defending student wins, they may – or may not – choose to exchange one of their ingredients with the attacker. However, gold, silver, treasures, and spell cards cannot be exchanged.
If both students play the same spell card, the elements cancel each other out and no one wins the round.
Your turn ends after the duel. You cannot collect, trade, or buy anything else. Both students keep their own spell cards.
Tip: It’s possible that you cannot win a duel because you don’t have any spell cards, let alone the right ones.
That’s why it’s important to remember which spell cards the other students do or do not have before challenging them to a duel! You will always win against a player who doesn’t have any spell cards yet.
