Imagine If Game Rules
- Number of players: 3-8
- Playing time: 30-60 minutes
- Age: 12+
Imagine If is a fun and creative party game that lets you use your imagination to come up with hilarious ‘what if’ scenarios. Here are the basic rules to get you started:
Setup
Before starting the game, make sure all players are seated in a circle. Shuffle the deck of ‘imagination cards’ and place them face down in the middle of the circle. Choose one player to be the ‘narrator’ for the first round.
Gameplay
The narrator picks up the top card from the deck and reads the ‘what if’ scenario out loud. For example, it could be something like:
“Imagine if all animals could talk.”
After reading the scenario, the narrator sets a timer for one minute. During this time, players take turns sharing their creative responses to the scenario. For example, someone might say:
“If all animals could talk, I would ask my dog why he always barks at the mailman.”
Players can be as silly or as serious as they want with their answers. The goal is to come up with imaginative and entertaining responses.
Voting
Once the timer runs out, the players vote for their favorite response. They can’t vote for their own response. The player with the most votes wins the round and becomes the narrator for the next round.
Winning the Game
The game continues with each player taking turns as the narrator. The first player to collect a certain number of rounds (e.g., 5 rounds) wins the game.
Get ready to unleash your creativity and have a barrel of laughs with Imagine If!

Let’s Get Playing
I am trying to be the first player to reach the Winner’s space!
How to Set Up
Firstly, write everyone’s name on a numbered space on the game board using the dry erase marker. If there are less than eight players, we can fill the empty spaces with the names of people we all know.
We can use the names of celebrities, fictional characters, or even ourselves – it’s up to us!
Remember: at the end of every game, we need to erase the names on the board to avoid the ink setting over time.
When you’re playing this game, it’s important to pick a colored piece and the set of number cards that go with it. Make sure to put your piece on the START space.

Alright, here’s how the game works:
- The cards are numbered from 1 to 8, and each number corresponds to a name written on the board. These cards will be used for voting.
- First, we place the question cards into three piles near the game board. Make sure to shuffle each set of cards individually.
- The youngest player goes first, and then the game continues clockwise.
Let’s Play!
Here’s how a turn works:
Roll the die. The die will show you two things:

- The color of the question determines which category it belongs to.
- The number on the die tells you how many spaces the question is worth.
For instance, if the die shows the number two, it means you will be answering a gray question. (This is the EVERYBODY category).
The question will be worth two spaces on the board. If you choose the majority answer, you will move two spaces forward. (We’ll talk more about majority answers later).
When it’s my turn, I’ll draw a card from the deck and read the Imagin question. Then, it’s time for everyone to make their choice by voting with a number card. We’ll keep the voting secret by placing the cards face down.
Remember: If we’re playing in the categories EVERYBODY or VERSUS, the number on the card will match a player’s name on the board. If it’s CHOICES, the number will match multiple answers.
Once everyone, including me as the reader, has voted, we’ll reveal the cards. Those who voted for the winning name will get to move the number of spaces shown on the die.
Let’s say three players voted for Marcia and one player voted for Brian. In this case, everyone who voted for Marcia will move the number of spaces shown on the die.
Let me explain how this game works. If there is only one answer that gets the most votes from everyone, then all the players who voted for that answer get to move. But if each player voted for a different answer and no answer got the majority of votes, then no one gets to move forward.

Picking the Perfect Card
Deciding on the Right Option
Choosing the ideal card can be quite a puzzle. With an array of categories to consider, it may feel overwhelming to find the perfect fit. But fear not, as I’m here to guide you through the process!
Let’s take a closer look at the various card categories and explore the options that suit your needs.
Birthday Cards
Birthday cards are a surefire way to show someone how much you care. From heartfelt messages to funny jokes, you can find a card that captures the essence of your relationship. Whether it’s for a friend, family member, or colleague, a birthday card is a wonderful choice to make a loved one’s day extra special.
Thank You Cards
Expressing gratitude is always a good idea, and thank you cards are perfect for that. Whether you want to acknowledge a kind gesture, a thoughtful gift, or simply say thanks, there’s a thank you card that will convey your appreciation beautifully.
Get Well Soon Cards
When someone you care about is feeling under the weather, a get well soon card can brighten their day. These cards are designed to bring a smile to someone’s face and let them know you’re thinking of them during their recovery.
Anniversary Cards
Celebrate love and commitment with an anniversary card. Whether it’s your own anniversary or someone else’s, these cards help commemorate a milestone and honor the bond between two people.
Sympathy Cards
During times of loss and grief, sympathy cards provide solace and support. They offer heartfelt condolences and let someone know that you’re there for them during a difficult time.
Thinking of You Cards
When you want to reach out and let someone know they’re on your mind, a thinking of you card is the perfect choice. These cards spread warmth and remind someone that they are loved and cared for.
Whichever category you’re exploring, remember this: the right card can uplift, bring joy, and strengthen connections. So take your time, consider what message you want to convey, and select a card that truly speaks to you. With this in mind, your choice is bound to be a heartfelt one.

If the die lands on red, you get to pick a card from the CHOICES pile. Take the ? token and move it to the next name on the board in numerical order. And that’s the person you should insert in the blank when you read the card out loud.
Once you’ve read the card, it’s time for everyone to make their choice from the options listed. Cast your votes, folks!
- Sesame Street
- Survivor
- Law and Order
- The Office
- Sex in the City
- Mad Men
Everyone

If the color gray is rolled on the die, you have to pick a card from the pile called EVERYBODY and read it out loud. When it’s time to vote, you can choose from any of the names on the game board.

If I roll a black on the die, I need to choose the top card from the VERSUS pile. Then, I’ll move the ? token to the next name on the board, in numerical order. When I read the card aloud, I’ll insert this name in the blank space.
Let me give you an example:
The question says: Imaginff _______ and I were both bicycles. Who would have training wheels?
The next name on the board is Pat, so I’ll read: Imaginff Pat and I were both bicycles. Who would have training wheels?
For VERSUS only, if the ? mark lands on my name, I’ll just move to the next name on the board.

Game Over
The goal of the game is to reach the last space before anyone else. Whoever gets there first is the winner!
If two or more players end up reaching the final space at the same time, a tiebreaker round is played to determine the ultimate victor.
Play continues as usual until one of the tied players comes out on top. If needed, multiple tiebreaker rounds can be played.
