Auction Rounds

Let’s talk about how auction rounds work. It’s pretty simple, really. At the beginning of each round, we’ll take the top card from the status deck and flip it face-up. That card will be up for grabs, and the highest bidder will get it. Exciting, right? Now, here’s where things get interesting.

Bidding

If you want to throw your hat in the bidding ring, you’ll need to show me the money. Lay down one or more money cards face-up in front of you – that’s your bid. And don’t forget to tell everyone the total value of all your face-up money cards. It’s all about making sure you come out on top, after all.

If you’ve already made a bid in this round, you can increase it by adding new cards to the ones you’ve already played. You can’t pick up cards you’ve already used. To make a bid, your new total must be higher than the previous bid in this round.

Passing

If you don’t want to bid, you can pass instead. If you’ve already bid in this round, return all the money cards you’ve shown to your hand. You can’t bid anymore in this round.

After a player has either bid or passed, the turn goes to the player on their left. The last player remaining, when everyone else has passed, wins the auction! Sometimes, everyone may pass without making a bid, in which case the last player left gets the card for free – this doesn’t happen often though.

When it’s time to determine the winner, place the contested status card face-up in front of the person who came out on top. Put all the money cards on the table face-down and out of play. The person who won the auction becomes the starting player for the next round and reveals the next status card from the deck.

Disgrace

If the next status card happens to be a disgrace card, things work a bit differently. This time, everyone is bidding to avoid getting stuck with the disgrace card. The round ends as soon as someone decides to pass and not bid any further.

When a player decides to pass, they collect their money cards like usual but are forced to take the disgrace card and place it in front of them. Everyone else must discard their money cards face-down on the table. The player who passed becomes the starting player for the next round.

When you come across a Faux Pas card, you’re faced with a decision. You must get rid of one of your luxury cards right away. It’s your call which one to discard.

But what if you don’t have any luxury cards at the moment? Well, if that’s the case, you’ll have to let go of the next luxury card that comes your way. Once you’ve discarded a luxury card, you can say goodbye to the Faux Pas card too.

Don’t forget, luxury cards have values ranging from 1 to 10. Any status cards you discard should be put back in the box.

The Passe card brings down your status by 5.

The Scandale card cuts your status in half at the end of the game.

The Game Comes to an End

Among the cards in the status deck, there are four with a dark green background – three prestige cards and the Scandale card. Once the fourth one shows up, the game ends right away, without any bidding for the revealed card.

Out You Go!

All of us show our hands and declare the total value of the money cards we have left. The person or people with the least amount of money get cast out of the game and can’t win!

Scoring Time

Each luxury card gives you status points according to its value. Each prestige card doubles your status, while disgrace cards decrease it. The player with the highest status that hasn’t been cast out comes out as the winner.

When it comes to determining the winner in a game of cards, there are a few key factors to consider. For starters, if there is a tie between players, the one with the most money remaining is declared the winner. But what happens if there is still a tie after that? Well, in that case, the player with the single most valuable luxury card takes home the victory.
