Guesstures: The Exciting Game of Acting and Guessing
Welcome to the world of Guesstures, where your acting skills take center stage! This exhilarating game is all about acting out words and phrases without uttering a single sound. Can you communicate non-verbally and get your teammates to guess the secret word? Get ready for a whirlwind of fun and laughter!
The rules of the game are simple. To begin, gather your friends and split into teams. Each team receives a set of Guesstures cards, which are packed with challenging words and phrases. The first team takes their turn by selecting a card and starting the timer. Now, it’s up to one brave player to act out the word or phrase written on the card, using only gestures and body language.
The rest of the team must pay close attention and make their guesses as quickly as possible. Remember, time is of the essence! The player acting out the word can keep making gestures until their team guesses correctly or the timer runs out. If the team successfully guesses the word, they score a point and it’s the next team’s turn.
But here’s the twist – the game is a race against time! The timer only allows for a limited amount of acting out. If the time runs out before the word is guessed, the team loses their chance to score a point. Therefore, the key to success is effective communication and quick thinking!
Guesstures is not just a game; it’s an opportunity to showcase your creativity and improvisation skills. How will you act out “giraffe”? What about “rainy day”? Get ready for hilarious moments filled with exaggerated gestures, funny expressions, and plenty of laughter.
With Guesstures, you have the power to transport your teammates into the world of your imagination. Act out simple words, complex phrases, and everything in between. The goal is to have fun, connect with your teammates, and create unforgettable memories that will have everyone talking for years to come.
So, dust off your acting skills, gather your friends, and get ready for an exhilarating game of Guesstures. Let the acting begin!
Ready to take your word-guessing skills to the next level?
Join me on an exciting journey where we get to test our abilities to interpret and act out words! The aim is simple: be the team that scores the most points by correctly guessing the words being acted out.
How does it work, you ask? Well, one person from each team takes on the role of an actor, while the rest of the team become the guessers. The actor’s job is to act out the word on their card without speaking, while their teammates try to guess what the word is. It’s a game of creativity, communication, and quick thinking!
Remember, the clock is ticking! You’ve got a limited amount of time to convey your word to your team. Think fast and use your body language, facial expressions, and gestures to your advantage. The more creative and expressive you are, the better your chances of winning!
But be careful – every word you successfully guess earns your team a point, but each word you miss deducts a point from your score. It’s a double-edged sword, so choose your words wisely and think on your feet.
So, are you ready to put your word-guessing skills to the test? Join me on this thrilling journey and let’s see which team will come out on top!
Let the guessing begin!
The Players
Let’s divide everyone into two teams. It’s okay if one team has more players than the other. Now, it’s time to take turns! Each player on a team will get a chance to act out four words, while their teammates try to guess what they are.
The Mimer-timer
Hey there! Let me tell you about the Mimer-timer. It’s not just any old card holder; it’s a card holder that can do so much more!
First, it holds your Guesstures cards. These cards have words on them that you have to act out. It’s a fun way to challenge your friends.
But wait, there’s more! The Mimer-timer is also a timer itself. You have to act fast because you only have a few seconds to act out each word. If you don’t guess the word in time, the Mimer-timer swallows the card!
Here’s the best part. When your team guesses a word correctly, you get points for that card. So the faster you act and the more cards you grab, the better your score will be!
And that’s not all! The Mimer-timer is also a scorekeeper. You can write your team names on the Mimer-timer with the SCENE label. It keeps track of your scores, making the game even more exciting.
Action
Now let’s talk about the action in the game.
Each team will take turns acting in two rounds of play, which we call Scenes. In Scene 1, you’ll use the blue card deck, and in Scene 2, you’ll use the orange card deck.
Scene 1
To start, you need to decide which team will go first. Once you’ve done that, the first team will choose an Actor to go first. This person will be in charge of acting out the words on the cards.
When I finish Guessturing as an Actor on the first team, it’s now your turn as an Actor on the second team. We alternate turns, so every team member gets a chance to be an Actor during each Scene.
As an Actor, here’s what you need to do:
1. Get Ready with the Mimer-timer
Place the Mimer-Timer on a flat surface in front of you, like a table. The players who are guessing should never see the words on the cards while they’re inside the Mimer-Timer.
Open the Mimer-Timer’s arm. Push the switch up on the device. Turn the knob clockwise all the way (you can find the switch and knob in Figure 1). Make sure the Mimer-Timer is fully wound up.
2. Pick and Position your Cards
Take the first 4 blue cards from the card box. Take a look at your cards and figure out which words you want to act out.
Hey there! I’ve got a fun game for you to play. It’s called “Word Charades.”
Here’s how it works: you’ll have a bunch of cards with different words on them. Some words are worth 1 point and others are worth 3 points. The more difficult the word, the more points you can score!
Now, take a moment to choose your cards. You can pick any combination you like. Just make sure you have them facing up so you can see the words.
Hey there, let me show you how to play this exciting game! Remember, the goal is to have fun and get your team to guess the words as quickly as possible!
Step 1: Set Up
Make sure to properly set your cards in the Mimer-Timer, placing the card you think your team can guess easily closer to the “Easy” side. This way, it will be the first one to come up!
Step 2: Start the Timer
Close the Mimer-Timer gently, making sure not to press down on the cards. Now, the timer will start ticking!
Step 3: Begin Acting
Act out the words, starting with the easy ones and moving on to the harder ones. Remember, you must act out every single word without skipping any. You can find the rules for Guessturing in the HOW TO GUESSTURE box in the middle column.
As soon as someone on your team shouts out the correct word, quickly grab its card from the Mimer-Timer. Then, move on to guessturing the next card.
If the Mimer-Timer eats your card before we guess the word (or before you can grab it), let’s move on to the next word!
Make sure to keep an eye on your cards so that you don’t Gesture a word after it’s been eaten!
Note: Most of the time, guessing different forms of each word is fine. For example, guessing ‘ERUPTION1 for “ERUPT” is okay, but guessing “TRAP” for “MOUSETRAP” is not okay.
5. Roll The Credits!-scoring
When the Mimer-Timer stops ticking, your turn is done. Add up the points for only the words your team guessed and you managed to grab before the Mimer-Timer ate them.
Then use the crayon to write your total score next to “Scene 1” under your team’s name on the Mimer-Timer.
When you need to retrieve any cards that have been swallowed by the Mimer-Timer, all you have to do is pick up the game unit. You’ll find the cards underneath it! After that, just put all four cards back into the corresponding color card section in the card box.
Now it’s time for an Actor from the other team to take a turn at Guessture! The new Actor should follow Steps 1 through 5.
Take turns back and forth until every player has had a chance to act in Scene 1. If one team has one less player than the other team, that team gets to choose an Actor to Guessture for two turns.
Scene 2
Hey there! It’s time to play Scene 2 just like we did with Scene 1. Grab the orange card deck with 2-point and 4-point words. Oh, and don’t forget to keep track of each team’s score next to “Scene 2” on the Mimer-Timer. Let the fun continue!
Ready to Guessture?
- No talking allowed. It’s all about those actions!
- Feel free to use props or any visual aids you can think of. You can point to body parts, other people, or objects in the room – get creative!
- You can mouth words, but only if they don’t match the actual word you’re acting out. For example, if you’re acting out “WOUNDED,” you can mouth “OUCH.”
- Want to use classic charades techniques? Go ahead! You can pull your ear to indicate “sounds like…” But remember, these techniques can eat up your time!
The Game Ends
Once both teams have finished Scene 2, add up the points for both Scenes on the Mimer-Timer. Whoever has the most points is the winner!
When you’re done playing, wipe the scoring surface clean by gently rubbing it with a soft cloth.
For a Fun Twist
Here’s a different way to play Guesstures! Instead of splitting into teams, each player takes a turn acting while everyone else tries to guess.
