Each player gets 10 machine tiles, and they put them face down in a stack near the middle of the table. The rest of the machine tiles go back in the box, so no one knows what they are.

Next, we put 2 green, 2 red, 2 blue, and 2 orange supply containers on the table. We also place the 13 end-product reservoirs.

Before we start playing, we have to decide if we want to use the classic or expert side of the Factory boards. We can also choose whether or not to use the optional diagonal intersection tiles. It’s up to us!

Game Elements

The Products

There are 5 Products in this game, and they come in two types. The four Basic products are what the Machines need and generate in different combinations and quantities: Green, Red, Blue, and Orange.

The End-product is something that none of the Machines can use as a raw material, and it’s called Black.

The Machines

All the Machines in this game have between one and three input connectors, as well as one output connector. Each input connector requires one of the four Basic products: Green, Red, Blue, or Orange. The amount needed is fixed and can be either 1, 2, or 3, as indicated on the tile.

The output connector produces a set amount of either 1, 2, or 3 of the four Basic products, or it generates the End-product, Black, which doesn’t have a specific amount.

Arrows on the colored connectors show the flow of production, while a clear half circle highlights the output connector.

Hey there! Let me break it down for you. When you look at the connectors on this Machine, you will see some numbers and their width. These numbers tell you how much product this Machine needs and how much it can produce. Pretty straightforward, right? Now, right in the middle of the Machine tile, you’ll find its revenue. That’s what it brings in. So, it’s all about figuring out the right balance between input, output, and the money it brings in. Easy peasy.

Let’s Play the Game!

Playing the game involves two important phases:

Phase 1: Pick a Machine

First, we need to choose a machine. Each player will take one machine tile from the stack and place it face down in front of them, near the center of the table. It’s up to you to decide which hand you want to use for turning the tile and which hand you want to use for taking it.

Next, we all get ready to reveal our tiles. Someone will count down from 3 to 1, and when they say “TURN,” we all quickly flip our tiles face up using our turning hand.

Now comes the exciting part. After revealing the tiles, each player can choose one machine tile that they like from the ones that were just turned face up. Use your taking hand to pick the tile you want.

When I touch a Machine tile, I have to pick it right away. I can’t keep my hand above or near the Machine tiles. And I can only pick one Machine tile per game round.

I don’t have to pick a Machine tile if I don’t want to. If there are any Machine tiles that I don’t pick, they get taken out of the game.

Phase 2: Adding the machine to my Factory Board

Now it’s time for me to add the Machine tile I picked to my Factory board, but I have to follow these rules:

  1. The Machine tile has to cover 2 squares on my Factory board.
  2. The input connectors and output connector of the Machine tile have to be connected.
  3. I can get input from a Supply Container or the output of other Machines. The Supply Containers have unlimited quantities, and different Reservoirs can be next to each other.

During gameplay, it’s crucial to remember the rules for connecting machines in the Factory Fun game. Here’s a breakdown to guide you through the process.

To start, you need to make sure the output connector is attached to either an Output Reservoir or another Machine’s input connector. This connection is vital for the game to flow smoothly.

In the first round, you’ll select the MULTI FITTER and position it on your Factory board. It’s important to note that you can’t leave a machine unconnected. Therefore, you must construct a Blue Supply Container, a Red Supply Container, and a Product Reservoir from your supply.

Connect all the Machine’s connectors. The Supply Containers will provide the necessary products to the Machine, and the Machine’s output will link up with one of your three output reservoirs.

When connecting machines, it’s crucial to match the input and output colors. The colors you’ll encounter are Green, Red, Blue, and Orange. This matching step is crucial for the gameplay to progress smoothly.

Remember, the goal is to create a seamless flow in your factory by connecting machines correctly and aligning the input and output colors. Keep these rules in mind, and you’ll be well on your way to success in the Factory Fun game.

When you connect one machine’s output to another machine’s input, make sure that the output number is equal to or greater than the input number. Let’s look at an example:

Incorrect: The output amount is 1, but the connected machine requires at least 2.

Correct: The green machine has an output of 2, which is more than enough for the connected machine that only needs 1.

Another rule to remember is that the black product output (the end product) must be connected to an end-product reservoir from the stock. Here’s an illustration:

Let me tell you a little secret:

  • When you connect Machines together, you can’t combine their output.
  • But don’t worry! You can use Connector tiles to link Supply Containers, Machines, Output Reservoirs, or End-product Reservoirs. You’ll find plenty of Connector tiles available on the table.

Now, isn’t that neat? You get to be the master builder and connect everything exactly how you want!

How to play Factory Fun Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Hey there! So, let’s talk about connectors. You know, those things that connect different parts together? They’re pretty important and play a big role in making everything work smoothly.

But here’s the thing – connectors should never be left with unconnected ends. It’s like leaving loose ends hanging, and that can cause all sorts of problems. Imagine trying to plug in your headphones, but one end is just dangling there – not very useful, right?

When we use connectors, we want them to do their job properly. We want them to connect things and keep everything running smoothly. So, it’s important to make sure they’re connected at both ends, just like when you plug in your headphones, you make sure both ends are in place.

Now, let’s think about this in terms of a round. You don’t want to start a round and then leave one end of the connector unconnected. It’s like starting a race and then realizing you forgot to put on your shoes – not a very good start! So, make sure your connectors are properly connected before you begin.

To summarize, connectors are important because they connect things together. But remember, they should never be left with unconnected ends. Just like plugging in your headphones or starting a race, make sure to connect both ends of the connector, and you’ll be good to go!

Have you ever heard of something called splitting connectors? They might sound a little strange, but they are actually pretty neat. Splitting connectors are devices that can separate or combine product flows that are the same color. It’s kind of like magic!

How to play Factory Fun Official Rules UltraFoodMess

When it comes to merging outputs, it’s important to remember that a Machine output can never be combined with the output from a Supply Container. This is because the two outputs are different and cannot be mixed together. While the idea of merging outputs may seem appealing, it is not a feasible option due to the unique qualities of each output.

Although combining outputs might seem like a good idea at first, it’s important to take into account the differences between the two. The output from a Machine is generated through a specific process and has its own set of characteristics. The output from a Supply Container, on the other hand, is obtained from a separate source and has its own distinct properties.

Trying to merge these two outputs would be like trying to mix oil and water – they simply don’t blend together. The properties of each output are incompatible, making it impossible to create a hybrid result that combines the best of both worlds.

While it may be tempting to try and find a way to merge outputs, it’s important to understand that this is not a viable option. Instead, it’s better to focus on utilizing each output for its intended purpose and maximizing their individual benefits.

So, if you’re looking to optimize your results, it’s best to work with each output separately. By understanding and appreciating the unique qualities of each, you can make the most of what they have to offer.

Remember, a Machine output and the output from a Supply Container are like two pieces of a puzzle – they may not fit together, but each plays an important role in the overall picture. By respecting and embracing the differences between the two, you can achieve the best possible outcome.

Rules for Placing Tiles

When placing tiles in the game, a few important rules must be followed:

  1. Tiles cannot be stacked on top of each other.
  2. A Machine cannot feed itself, even through other Machines. This means that perpetual motion, or a loop, is not allowed.

Bonus Supply Containers

Out of the Machine tiles available, five of them have a “+” symbol and a Supply Container. If you choose one of these Machine tiles for your Factory board, you will earn an extra Supply Container, which you can use immediately.

One of the Bonus tiles has a circled “?” symbol. If you choose this Machine tile, you can select the color of the bonus Supply Container that you earn.

Building Costs

  • Placing a new machine doesn’t cost anything. The costs for placing machines are already factored into the profit numbers on the machine tiles.
  • Placing reservoirs, containers, or connectors (straight, curved, 3-way split, or 4-way split) costs 1 point. This means that having two connectors on one tile, whether they intersect or not, will each cost 1 point.

For example: Let’s say you already have a single straight connector on your floor, and you want to connect it to a new straight connector. In this case, you’ll replace the single-straight-connector tile with a 2-straight-connectors tile. Since one of the connectors is new, it will cost 1 point. When adding a new machine, you have the option to reposition or remove existing machines. Let me break down the details for you:

  • Repositioning a machine will cost you 2 points. You are only allowed to reposition a maximum of two machines in a single game round.
  • If you decide to reposition a reservoir, container, or connector, it will only cost you 1 point. Keep in mind that if you choose to alter the production flow by changing the connectors, you can freely adjust the arrow direction without any additional cost.
  • Removing a reservoir, container, or connector won’t cost you anything. However, it is important to note that once you have placed a machine, it cannot be removed. If you decide to remove a reservoir or container, it will go back to your private stock. Similarly, any removed connectors will be returned to the common stock.

Remember, these repositioning and removal options are available only when you are adding a new machine to the setup. So, go ahead and strategize your moves wisely to maximize your efficiency in the game!

Example: So, let’s say you have a tile on your floor that has straight connectors intersecting each other. And now, imagine you want to get rid of one of these connectors. Well, all you have to do is replace that tile with another one that has a single straight connector. And here’s the best part – it doesn’t cost you anything!

Boosting Profits

Right in the middle of the Machine tile, you’ll find the direct revenue of the new Machine. It’s displayed in a white circle, so you can’t miss it.

How to play Factory Fun Official Rules UltraFoodMess

Whenever I connect a machine to another machine, either directly or through connector tiles, I get a bonus chip on the receiving machine. The bonus chip is five times the number of inputs on the receiving machine.

At the end of the game, all the production bonuses are added up.

If I change the layout of my factory and connect machines in a different way, I need to recalculate the chain bonuses and place the appropriate tokens.

Banker

The banker moves my scoring token on the money track at the end of each game round. The movement of my token depends on the revenue of my new machine tile minus the building costs. It can either move me forward or backward on the track.

If your Score token would drop to the lowest position on the Money Track, you must give up a building as a penalty, according to the rules.

How to play Factory Fun Official Rules UltraFoodMess

1st Round:

When I build the two supply containers and the output reservoir, it costs me 1 each, so a total of 3. But here’s the thing – the machine brings in 9. However, I only count this revenue once, when I successfully add the machine to the factory.

So, what happens next? Well, the banker moves my player token forward. How far? They move it 6 spots on the money track, which is the difference between 9 and 3. That means my token ends up on the 8 spot.

How to play Factory Fun Official Rules UltraFoodMess

2nd Round:

Well, it looks like the Supply Containers can stay where they are, but we’ll have to move the Output Reservoir. It’ll cost us 1 point to reposition it. Oh, and don’t forget about the connectors – those will cost another 2 points. So that’s a total of 3 points just to make these changes.

With the new machine in place, we get a nice boost. The banker moves my Player token forward 8 spaces on the Money Track. But wait, we have to subtract the 3 points we spent earlier. So, I actually move 5 spaces ahead, from 8 to 13. Not too shabby!

Since I’m chaining these Machines together, I’ll connect the FLEXFIXER input to the HIGH PRESSOR output. That earns me a +10 chip on the FLEXFIXER. Nice little bonus there.

Not Placing a new Machine

Now, here’s an interesting choice. Let’s say I pick a Machine, but I decide not to add it to my Factory. Well, that decision comes with a penalty. I’ll have to pay 5 points. And unfortunately, that Machine has to go back in the box – it’s removed from the game entirely. But there’s a silver lining – my Player Score token can’t fall below 1 on the Money Track. Gotta keep a minimum balance, you know?

When I’m deciding whether or not to choose the final Machine in a round, I have the option to take it and see if it works well in my Factory. The best part is that if I decide not to place this Machine after all, I won’t be penalized with a loss of 5 points.

Game Over

Once we’ve completed 10 rounds of the game, it’s time for the big finale. Here’s how it goes down: I add up all the numbers on the bonus tokens in my factory and then add that to the money track. The player with the most combined points from their factory and money track claims victory and is declared the wealthiest player.
