Your appetite has been awakened, and your thirst for these legendary juices is unquenchable. The question remains: who among us will be the victorious one to satisfy their craving first?

Now, let’s talk about how to set the stage for this thrilling adventure. Gather around as I enlighten you on the setup process.

The Start of the Game

1. Let’s begin by opening the four big card packs that contain the location cards. These cards will be referred to as “locations.” It’s important not to shuffle these cards. The packs are already sorted, so all you need to do is place the stack of location cards in the center of the table. Make sure that location #1 is visible on top and location #59 is at the bottom.

2. Now, we need to draw all the cards for locations #1 – #6 and create separate stacks for each location. Each stack will contain four cards, all with the same location number.

3. Next, we’ll shuffle all 60 fruit cards, which we’ll call “fruits.” Each player should receive two fruit cards, which they will keep in their hands. The remaining fruit cards should be placed face down in a separate stack next to the stack of location cards. Make sure there is enough space for a discard pile.

Hey there! Let’s get started on this fun game together. First, we each need to pick an animal piece and grab its matching cardboard token. We have six different animals to choose from, so we can find our favorite!

Now, let’s put aside the other game components for now. We won’t be using the thief, the five fruit tokens, the three double turn tokens, the three wild tokens, and the ten fruit-mix cards in the first game. They’ll come in handy in future games when new locations show up. The glossary explains all the different locations.

Next, we need to choose a start player. The start player gets to pick one of the remaining animals and use it as their marker. And then we’re ready to start playing!

Time to Play!

Now, it’s time to take turns. We’ll start with the start player and go clockwise. Each turn, we need to move our animal to a new location and use its action to gather some juicy fruits!

If you have plenty of fruits, you can trade them for delicious juices. The player who collects the most juices by the end of the game will be the winner.

Traveling to a new place

When it’s your turn, you need to move your animal to a different location. You can choose any available location to place your animal.

If one or more players are already at the new location, you have to give each of them one fruit from your hand. You place the fruit face down in their hands.

If you don’t have enough fruits for all the players, you have to give away all the remaining fruits you have. However, you can choose which players will receive a fruit. If you don’t have any fruits left, you can move to a new location occupied by other players without giving them any fruits.

In my very first turn, I decided to put my fluffy sheep on location #5. However, I’ve changed my strategy and now I’m moving my sheep to location #4. Surprise! Paul’s turtle is already occupying that spot. Well, according to the rules, I have to give Paul one fruit from my hand as a consequence.

Let’s talk about using the action of the location. After relocating my sheep, I get to utilize the action associated with that specific location. It’s quite simple, really. Just follow the instructions mentioned in the text box and the title of the location. For now, it’s best to focus on mastering the six available locations highlighted in the glossary.

These actions are essential for collecting a plethora of fruits. The best part? There’s no limit to how many fruits you can gather. So go ahead and stock up!

Here’s what you need to know about purchasing one of the legendary juices at each location:

The Deal with Buying from Location #1

If you’ve got the necessary fruits in hand, you have the option to buy one of the fabled juices.

When you move to a new location, instead of taking its action, you can opt to purchase the available legendary juice. To do so, you’ll need to pay the listed fruits on the bottom line of the location card.

In addition to the 5 different types of fruits, there’s a chance you may find smoothies listed as part of the price. These smoothies are wild, meaning you can use any type of fruit to pay for them. Keep in mind, though, that a few cards may have special prices.

When you want to pay for something, you have to give up the fruits you have and choose a location card. This card will show the bottle with the precious juice, and you should put it in front of you face down.

On location #3, I made a decision to purchase the legendary juice. Costing 3 grapes and 1 banana (which is my preferred fruit for the smoothie), I exchanged my payment.

After completing the transaction, I took the top card from the pile of locations and placed it face down in front of me. This would be my first fabled juice.

Whenever you decide to buy a fabled juice, you will draw the top card from the large stack of location cards. If it happens to be the first card of a new location, you will start a new small stack for that specific location number.

If the card is not the first of its kind, you will simply add it to the matching small stack. The large stack of location cards is grouped in sets of four, each set representing the same location. Whenever a location card with a new forest-dweller appears, all players gain the ability to use the new action associated with that forest-dweller and/or buy the newly introduced fabled juice.

If you purchase the final (fourth) legendary drink from a small stack, that stack is now empty and you can no longer perform the corresponding action. If your creature is on that empty stack, return it to your possession and on your next turn, move it to a different stack.

After I finish my turn, I quickly draw a new card from the pile of location cards. Since it’s the first location with the number 7, I start a separate pile just for that location.

When the game comes to an end, the goal is to collect a specific number of fabled juices. The amount needed depends on the number of players: 5 juices for 2 players, 4 juices for 3 players, and 3 juices for 4 or 5 players.

As soon as one player has the required number of fabled juices, we finish the current round to ensure each player has an equal number of turns. The player to the right of the start player takes the last turn.

Finally, the player who has collected the most fabled juices throughout the game is the winner.

If there’s a tie, the player with more fruits left in their hand is the winner. If there’s still a tie after that, those players share the victory!

Getting Ready for Your Next Game

To save your progress and get ready for your next Fable Game, just follow these simple steps:

Once you’ve determined the winner, put all the purchased fabled juices back in the game box. Don’t put them on top of the huge locations stack – use one of the plastic bags that come with the game.

For your next game, get the 24 location cards that are currently in separate small stacks on the table. Normally, you’ll have more than 6 small stacks at this point.

Achieving Victory in Multiple Games

If you’re playing a series of games and want to determine the ultimate champion, there’s a scoring method that can help:

Whenever a game concludes, the winners receive 2 victory points, while the last-place player(s) earn 0 points. Everyone else is awarded 1 victory point. Be sure to record these scores on a notepad before starting the next game. At the end of the game session, the player with the highest total victory points becomes the overall champion!
