Now, I should mention that Dominion: Alchemy is an expansion, which means you can’t play it on its own. You need to have the original Dominion game or a standalone expansion like Dominion: Intrigue in order to play with it.

What’s in the Box?

  • There are 122 Kingdom cards
  • You’ll receive 16 Basic cards, all Potion
  • Plus, there are 12 Randomizer cards

Getting Set Up

Once you’ve selected 10 Kingdom cards for the Supply, you might notice some of them have a special ingredient called Potion. If this is the case, don’t forget to add the Potion pile to the Supply. It’s also important to include the Potion pile if you plan on using the promotional card Black Market. If the Black Market deck has at least one card with Potion in its cost, you’ll need the Potion pile as well.

If you don’t have any cards that cost Potions in the Supply or Black Market deck, you won’t use the Potion pile during this game.

When you have a Potion pile, you put all 16 Potions in it, regardless of the number of players. In games that use this pile, if it becomes empty, it will count towards the game ending condition, just like any other Supply pile.

You can play Dominion with any number of Kingdom cards from Alchemy, but we suggest playing with 3-5 Alchemy cards at a time.

Alchemy comes with 12 randomizer cards, one for each Kingdom card in the Alchemy expansion. To play with this expansion, you’ll need the Treasure cards, Victory cards, Curse cards, and Trash cards from either the base Dominion game or a standalone expansion like Dominion: Intrigue.

In Dominion, like in the previous games, you have to pick 10 sets of Kingdom cards for each game. If you want to go with the random approach, you can mix the randomizer cards from this expansion with cards from any other Dominion game you decide to play. Or you can even take a few randomizer cards from each set.
